Default How many G1 toys are in total?

Looking around the net I couldn't find anywhere that would tell me the total number of released US G1 toys so I decided to do my own count

The purpose of this thread is to get a solid count on how many US G1 toys were released during 1984 to 1990. It also serves the purpose of people finding this thread when they are googling for a number count.

    Parameters used in this count:
    >The '+2' represents S.T.A.R.S and Time Warrior - They are optional counts
    >Minispies and decoys are not part of the count
    >Reflector is counted as one rather than three
    >Gestalts are not counted, only individual toys as the gestalt is formed by them rather than a separate toy.
    >Micromaster Patrol members are counted as individuals not Patrol teams.
    >Both halves of a Micromaster Combiner squad vehicle are counted as one (eg Astro Squad is counted as '3' rather than '6')

    '84 Autobots-19 Decepticons-10 Total: 29
    '85 Autobots-31+2 Decepticons-19 Total: 50+2
    '86 Autobots-31 Decepticons-25 Total: 56
    '87 Autobots-29 Decepticons-23 Total: 52
    '88 Autobots-28 Decepticons-33 Total: 61
    '89 Autobots-31 Decepticons-26 Total: 57
    '90 Autobots-42 Decepticons-26 Total: 68

    Grand Total: 373+2

Please feel free to correct any counting errors I may have made (I am sure there are errors!) and if someone is inclined do so, please add a Euro and Japanese count

Okay, I'm assuming you're not counting variants, including the Takara and Hasbro versions of Fortress Maximus. So I'm just gonna count different toy-characters like Browning, Soundblaster, the Godmasters etc. but I'm not including Headmaster Warriors like Rodney, Kirk etc. I'm also not including "peripheral robots" like Metrodash and Metroshot (repaints of Scamper and Sixgun).

    Japanese and Australasian/European count:
    1987 Autobots: 13 Decepticons: 1 Total: 14
    1988 Autobots: 15+3 Decepticons: 17+6 Total: 29+9
    1989 Autobots: 13 Decepticons: 15 Total: 28
    1990 Autobots: 17+28 Decepticons: 2+4 Total: 19+32
1991 Autobots: 22 Decepticons: 7+1 Total: 29+1 (omitted: Micro Trailers)
    1992 Autobots: 39+4 Decepticons: 11+4 Total: 50+8
    1993 Autobots: 11 Decepticons: 7 Total: 18

    Notes
    > +3 = Phoenix, Lander and Cab's toys are identical to Cloudburst, Landmine and Hosehead, although technically they are different characters.
    > +6 = Targetmaster Seacons. Toys are the same though technically different characters.
    > +28 = Micromasters toys that were identical in both markets (e.g.: Rescue Patrol, Moon Radar etc.) though technically different characters.
    > +4 = Race Car Patrol, JP version of Race Track Patrol. Same toys, probably different characters.
    > +1 = Hasbro Overlord; depends if you want to count this slight variant separately or not
    > +4 = Road team; same toys as the small Turbomasters. Different names/personas.
    > +4 = Jet team; same toys as the small Predators. Different names/personas.

    Grand Total: 187+50

So if we combine this with the total from your count kup, we would get:
    Combined Total: 560+52

I thought you were only counting the US released ones

Did you get to count the 3 mail away cars in the count - Overdrive, Downshift and Camshaft?

    Yep, I did.

I did a US G1 only count but Euro and Japanese counts are also welcome.

Certainly not me, Im only collecting up to the US released,....Im only technically missing 2 so far, then Im considering my collection complete from there... if I happen to get any Jap exclusives, that's just a bonus. Maybe bossbot?

I am only aiming for US G1 too. I do collect the Euro and Japanese releases but I have no intention to 'collect 'em all'. I only grab the ones that have some sort of appeal to me or opportunity buys. Aside from that, I will regard my G1 collection complete once I finish with the US line but still pick up the odd Euro or Japanese toy when the opportunity arises.

I did something similar with Beast Wars - Once I got all the show characters, I considered my BW collection as complete. The 'extra' toys I have gotten have been either opportunity buys or specific non-show/Japanese releases which appealed to me.
