I am surprised by how close it seems to the official toy despite both being based on the same character model.

That statement... doesn't make much sense :S
if they're both based on the same character model, it would make sense for it to be similar... in this case, they're both based on the same character, but different character models - one being his cybertron mode and the other being his earth mode... I think your statement would make a tad more sense if you mean that it's surprising how similar the two are eventhough one's the cybertron mode and the other's the earth mode - chalk that down to the actual designers of the robots though - the design was really similar between the two from the start

Despite my being satisfied with the original MP Starscream I picked up the MP repaint today for 3'633 yen,also got Alternity Black Megatron a few days ago, Also other things I couldn't be bothered separating all the toys, but so far Starscream is my most pricey toy purchase, might need to ship him back to OZ though.

No Idea but it is muppet like and croaks out old Macdonald and other tunes when you move its mouth, we created a bit of ruckus in Toys r Us, it only cost $12 so it had to be purchased.
