Default Premium Ironhide Review (with Pseudo Comparisons)

So! This guy arrived at my parent's place a few days ago, but I hadn't a chance to go and pick him up! Only really got him in my hot lil (well, not little really) hands on Monday! SO!
Is he worth getting another of? Is he worth the wait? Let's see!
It wouldn't be one of my posts without pics... a nice collection of them (So to best show off what's new about him... but the flip side of that is that I haven't looked at a non-repainted Ironhide for a while now, so I'll have to speak from memory.
    Alt Mode:

Alt Mode! There's obvious differences, like the Autobot symbol on the hood... not too big a fan of that. The plastic grey smoke stacks are a big improvement over the unpainted black of the original release. that said, still not shiney silver :b (I'm spoilt- I know!) There's also allspark blue where the lights are. Not too big a fan of the frosting of the windows either nor of the silver stripes on the top. That said, that's only cause it's not faithful to the movie. :b As it is, it does look good Looking at the rear, there's also the grey cogs and heel. Not liking that. BUT. The biggest difference I reckon is some of the additional paint apps that ARE accurate AND the paintjob is actually shiney glossy! I LIKE! VERY sweet

    {Heading home- will continue the review later... enjoy the pics for now }

I have seen some smaller shots of the premium figure over at shortpacked, but, wow, you can really see how much more paint this guy has on him in your pics.

I think I may have to nab me a Premium figure after all, Ironhide is just so nice looking...

I personally wont be getting these figures.

I find it shameful how Hasbro decided to release 'lesser' quality figures in its first run only to release them later with proper paint applications and higher quality in order to have people do make a secondary purchase of the item.

I feel that if I buy any of these figures, I would only encourage the same thing in the future.

    Very nice extra paint applications.

I totally agree with you kup, the whole fact that they released a "Premium" line with much better paint just stinks of trying to get people like us to pick up the same figure twice. I point the finger of blame squarely at A. Archer.

The big Autobot sigil on the bonnet looks bad to me because he never had that in the movie. It's otherwise a nice looking repaint, but not nice enough for me to want to replace my existing Voyager Ironhide with one.

Gah! Can someone tell me why all of a sudden I need two more Voyager Ironhides?

At least we're seeing moulds reused with _improved_ colour schemes.

Unlike say, Universe Razorclaw, where they removed the vacuum metalised chrome, left the Maximal symbol in place, doused poor Tigerhawk in grape purple and sold him for the same price.

I've always said that Universe Depth Charge looks like he was painted with vomit. I recently read that Archer reckons that he chose Universe Depth Charge's colours as a tribute to Boba Fett's Slave-1...

Only my love of the Ironhide figure is making me want to nab the premium version, but if it costs more than standard Voyager price, the want will decline sharply with every extra $1 they want to charge us. I too do not want to encourage this to happen in later lines as well.

The best comment I have heard about Universe Depth Charge was that he was painted with Homer Simpson's make-up gun.
