    Default The Self-Employed Business Thread

    Hi there,

This thread is dedicated for those on this board who own their own businesses (or have some experience or relevant-background knowledge) and if they want to, share with others hints and tips on surviving as a self-employed worker.

    -------------------

I'm a Uni student right now but post-Uni I want to start up a business, like my old-man but I know that in order to start one I'll need some $$$ which I think is better made working for someone for a few years as opposed to taking out a BIG loan (since I've already got my Uni tuition loans ) If I wanted to start my own business, what advice do you guys have for a newbie like me?

My brother and I own a wholesale distribution business specialising in hospitality and janitorial supplies. Being a business owner has great responsibilities but also great rewards. There is alot of behind the scenes work to do.

Still have some stuff for sale. Free pickup at Parra Fair

If you don't mind me asking how was starting up the business? Would you consider it the hardest part?

If you have graphic design or web skills then you can pretty much start your own business with tools you probably already have at your disposal - only finding work would cause you start-up pain. I do work on the side, in addition to my full time position - i'd never give up the full time because of the constant income. There's times when i earn more (and do less to get it) doing freelance than my 'main' job, but it isn't always the case.
