Liege, I think the turret splits so it can act as a scabbard for his sword... (again I think)

Yeah, that's pretty much how I read it. the scabbard hole then aligns with the gun in tank mode so you can complete the barrel. I'm really impressed by nifty bits of engineering like that actually.

Does anyone else feel the urge to hoist a flag off the turret in bot mode too? Just for that extra stereotypical samurai look?

Hell yeah! I am extremly tempted to get 2 of these and make him my first custom attempt with a mix of metallic black primary and deep red highlights, complete with flag =o) Any suggestions on good paints to use on TF's?

Please have a listen to my songs. Feel free to comment if you wish, any constructive feedback is appreciated =o)

It's interesting how TakaraTOMY uses the same size packaging for their movie and ROTF toys which would be frustrating for Japanese collectors who aren't as accustomed to such big space-wasting packaging (because a lot of Japanese homes are small and pokey) and also Japanese collectors like to keep toys in package (due to the frequent amount of seismic activity, that's why Japanese toy packaging is usually designed so that opened toys can be easily placed back into their packaging, including carded figures)
Hasbro doesn't have the luxury of size-customised packaging that Japanese toylines do. They create packaging that will be able to protect the toy reasonably well, look impressive on shelves, make it hard to steal the toy, and to be able to contain a wide variety of toy dimensions. It is more cost-effective in the long run.
