Default My Collection

Hey, Been meaning to get around to this for ages. Finally had a few spare hours today.

Well this is my little collection as it stands now. I have offloaded a few TFs lately so that has thinned the ranks a little.

As I have previously stated I am a selective collector, I don't have the conviction to be a completionist.

I had quite a few TFs as a kid, but the parentals decided one day when I was at school that I had outgrown them and they all vanished. And from then on I kanda lost interest. I very rarly watched Beast Wars when it was on TV but as a red blooded teenager I had other things on my mind .

Fast forward to 2002 and Transformers are at the back of my mind while I am walking through Kmart when I see Armada Starscream on a shelf. Bought on sight and interest re-kindled.

Some of my collection have a story behind them. For example my commemorative series Ultra Magnus - my girlfriend (now wife) was looking for a birthday present for me and had heard me say something about a transformer car carrier, so a bit of yahoo! searching later (no one used google back then. Most people didn't know it existed.) had found her the name and that it had been reissued! In America! which she paid $200 to get for me!!! And then she saw it for $80 in TRU Miranda a few weeks after my birthday. As I was an apprentice and she was a uni student, you can imagine how annoyed she was as her apparent waste of $120.

Another is my Alternators Silverstreak - Was bought for me when I got my WRX. Which came to a sudden and high speed end one sunny winter afternoon.

Ultimate Bumblebee - The transformer that I told everyone that I did not like thus did not want, yet Apparently I was not listened to , Yet it has grown on me due to the sentimental value. The look on my wife's face when she gave it to me - she thought she was doing wonders - and had the biggest grin on her face, how could I not love it??

Armada Unicron - Had no idea that a toy was even a possibility and was looking in Uncle Petes in Wollongong one day when I see a little kid (5 or 6) holding a rather large transformer. UNICRON!! OMGWTFBBQ!!! I casually strolled over and had a closer look. The kid then put it down and ran away. It had barely touched the shelf before it was in my hands and being rushed to the checkout. At which point I discovered the kid had put it down to go get his mum. Oh well kid, I've waited a lot longer for this guy than you...

More recently City Commander - The arm and a leg I paid to get it makes it noteworthy on its own.

You may have noticed that I am always harping on about my limited space. Hence my display rotates and usually just involves the 2 cubes shown below. The rest are stored away safely in a dark place. Pulled them all out today to take a few photos, However couldn't be arsed to take the masterpieces out of their boxes. You all know what they look like.

Anyway, her is my puny collection.

I don't know art, but I know what I like. And I likes this.

The display case that I have to share with the wife. Unicron is in his temp home until I could be bothered to build his stand:

Classics Bot shelf which is slowly growing. I left it a bit late to jump on this bandwagon.

Other display cube. Bought Animated Grimlock on a whim off a board member. Love the design aesthetic and must get more!!!

Stragglers

G1. Mostly reissues. Grimlock is a little nekkid. He's awaiting a new set of stickers.

And others

Thanks for looking!!! Hope you enjoyed the ramble.

Thanks for sharing Trent! Love hoe each figure you get has a significant story behind it. Btw for a Unicron stand have u tried those kitchen paper towel holders sold at K-Mart it's cheap and hold just well in planet mode. I'm talking about those stainless wire ones not the bamboo variety you do have put it up his butt part a bit though . Can't remember whose collection I saw this used but it works

Cheers guys.

Liege - yeah I have seen that stand somewhere as well. However my stand is going to be made out of wood and he will simply sit on it. I don't like the paper towel roll holder idea as it seems too flimsy and breakable to me.

@Trent: Cheers for finally being able to post some pics of your collection dude, though I don't know about puny ; at any rate size matters not, just so long as the owner enjoys it.

I must say that I too fell over sideways when it was brought to my attention that a Unicron toy existed, $150 later and I had a MIB example courtesy of a great bloke in the United States - Hindsight tells me that I should've bought 1 when they were still on store floors collecting dust...

The classics figures really are great and you certainly wouldn't be alone when you say that you came in late for them, unfortunately they're value has skyrocketed in very little time but you've certainly got some of the harder to acquire Official figures & 'best of the bunch' 3rd Party figures - It's an aesthetic that one can certainly sink some money into.

I see you've also got a Predaking, how insanely cool is that set of figures huh? - I was so over the moon when they announced a 3rd reissue back in 2010, when they arrived direct from Japan it was probably the closest in quite a long time that I'd felt like a kid on Xmas or a Birthday opening a present.

I envy blokes like you who've been able to find a partner understanding enough to want to participate in your hobby/love of Transformers, the fact that she was willing to spend time, money and effort in ordering that Reissue Magnus all the way from the States speaks volumes IMO.

Indeed a very nice & well displayed collection, I look forward to seeing more additions over time dude.

@deadonarrival: 1st off, I dig your Net-Handle!

Secondly, everybody starts with only 1 or 2 figures so by no means think that because you don't have stacks like other Collectors (Yet ) that your collection is of any less value.

I see you've got an Animated: Shadowblade Leader Megatron figure, quite the popular repaint surprisingly but it's a pretty damn cool mold eh? - I've found him to be rather poseable and able to pull off some quite cool poses with his swords!

I often considered picking up that 10-Pack of Classicsverse Legends figures but never did, I wanted them mainly to have some more Decepticons especially considering it packed characters such as Razorclaw & Trypticon; both of whom I think should've received larger figures IMO.

The Masterpiece range is indeed an interesting one, hits & misses a plenty but it really seem to of gained some traction now; out of curiosity, have you opened and transformed your Starscream & Prime? - What did you think?

As with Trent, I also look forward to seeing the many additions you make to your collection man and thanks for sharing your collection.

Yeah I never really thought of it as a collection before I got on here. It was just a random bunch of toys I had before then.

Yeah he is quite a cool figure. I found he had alot of fun to be had upon opening him, and yes his colouring is quite cool.

Yeah I had the two five packs not the ten pack. They are cool little figures but are very easy to break and neglect. IT would have been great to see them expand on a few toys that only got the small quick transform toys as even with these I have a lot of fun (and frustration) playing with these.

The masterpiece range is cool. I bought both of these from a toy fair here in Western Australia. I only just recently transformed my ghost starscream. I was reluctant coz i want to get a glass cabinet to display them in, but being payed monthly sucks

Nice collection deadonarrival Before you know it you'll go from 20 figures to 200. Having said that though, I would prefer to have 20 meaningful figures rather than 200 I didn't care about.

Predaking is awesome. I honestly believe with a leg and arm extension kit like the devastator ones out there then Pred would not look out that out of place next to FP Bruticus and MT Giant. I would like the existing crazy devy sets for him but they are just rediculously priced.

And as for my wife, she's somewhere between supportive and tolerant. Occasionally I'll show her one that I'm getting (like green giant) and I am greeted with silence, then "How much is that going to cost?"
