The Gripen doesn't have rear horizontal stabilisers either. and the intakes aren't represented on the toy. There are quite a lot of little differences.

One of the many podcasts I listen to had an interview with John Warden (I think), where he discussed not basing the design off any specific jet but more that he based it off more of a GI-Joe Aesthetic. I have no idea how successful he was with that. I'd suggest that any similarity to real world aircraft would be a coincidence due to the older GI-Joe aircraft being based off real world jets.

EDIT: wow when I typed this the previous 10 odd posts hadn't shown up. I guess now I'm just repeating Seraphim Prime

Every since we saw Nitro's alt mode i've wanted this guy to try and paint it.. https://m.youtube.com/user/idaemon (spoilers: this is just a link to model painting not a link to Nitro painting).

Meh, to me it's an approximated Gripen.
AFAIK the screen model is a Gripen

le-bump. Managed to grab one of these from the BigW sale for a fiver.
Love the jet, love the bot, but that transformation is definitely fiddly to say the least and gave me some frustration.
The instructions aren't helpful with this guy either, at least with other figures they give a vague idea but more then once with Nitro's instructions I was
Another complaint I have is that during transformation certain panels, such as the wing tips and tail fin, have a tendency to pop off, but at least they do clip back on fairly easily.
So while I do like Nitro I'm glad I only paid $5 for him, he's not a bot I will be transforming a lot as the downsides do take away some of the enjoyment.

I also got on the $5.00 Big W train.

I don't mind the grey as much as I thought I would, and I do love the (entirely movie inaccurate) head.

The tolerances on this are better than on my SS Thundercracker, especially getting the legs transformed for jet mode.
