As I'm sure most of you know, the 1988 anime Akira was the movie that basically launched the whole manga/anime boom in the West. This anime also accurately predicted that Tokyo would host the 2020 Olympics. Let's hope that's the only accurate prediction from that movie! Although the fact that WWIII didn't happen in 1989 is a good sign.

And of course the jokes have been rolling in...

This short video shows how Kaneda's famous motorcycle slide scene has been homaged across different animations (both from Japan and the US).

Ayasa performing Sailor Moon Crystal's "Moon Pride" on violin (it's the same person performing a duet)

What if other live action anime adaptations had manga/anime-sized big eyes?

They have to be full CGI characters or it doesn't count, this is James Cameron we are talking about.

Hey I had that on VHS many years ago. Picked it and Burn Up-W from a garage sale for something like $10.

    Its a cool OVA series.

I've got high hopes for the new blu ray release as AnimEigo have done some fantastic releases recently (including the original BGC a few years ago.)

    Gunsmith Cats!

Haven't even thought of that anime for years. Always did like the intro music and that excellent 1967 Mustang Shelby 500 the main character drove.
