I got the second volume of the 2014 Generations book, and it features Ultra Magnus (MP and past toy versions), and it was the first time I actually saw that the cab does actually detach from the trailer.
Not that it has really done that in the cartoon or comic... but it might be a nice feature when playing in vehicle mode to pick up or drop off the trailer like Optimus does or the Gen1 Ultra Magnus toy. The only difference is that this cab doesn't transform into its own robot.

I just did a google search and someone did post up a scan on facebook of the page I'm talking about.
