Default (SEPT-2013) Cybertron Era Comic - Reviews and Favourites

After the high of Armada, and the low of Energon, the third chapter in the "Unicron Trilogy" was Cybertron.
The Cybertron series went from mid 2005 to the end of 2006, just before the first of the Live-Action movie toys came out.
In Japan, Cybertron was called Galaxy Force.

Details of the Cybertron series can be read here.

With the recent demise of Dreamwave, which abruptly ended the Armada/Energon comic before it could become Cybertron, this series didn't end up having a Western comic series... but did have a miniseries produced by the new Collector Club, called Balancing Act, as well as a Japanese Manga series.

If you have either of these comics, have a refresher read and tell us a bit about them.

Are they worth buying after all this time (do you recommend them), and what do you think is good or bad about them.

How do they compare to the current era of Transformers comics?

Balancing Act is ok but not particularly worth checking out if you're a fan of the Cybertron cartoon and want something like that. If you've read any of the other Club comics, you've got an idea of what that comic is like. This is the "fan fiction" that ran over the first two years of the Collectors Club magazine and as such it's partly intended to make the first two limbs of Nexus Maximus important. A bunch of toy-only characters (mostly Universe store exclusives) also feature . Dan Khanna does some nice work as penciller, but the colouring lets the are down a bit, a bit murky.

Despite Vector Prime's major role, and the setting being the Cybertron continuity, it doesn't really feel like a Cybertron comic. Given how the Timelines universe has kept on ticking, if you're a big fan of those comics, and don't really want to get old club magazines, the square bound comic is not a bad way to get it. I'd buy square bound collections of the other club comic strips, but that's only because I'm too much of a comic completist.

I'll give Balancing Act a thumb's up for taking a DREADFUL toy like Universe Ramjet and making him bad-bum. It's an enjoyable enough comic.
