Default Toy Review: Generations Hoist (IDW Deluxe)

    Series - Transformers Generations
    Sub-line - N/A
    Size/class - Deluxe
    New/remould/redeco - Remould & redeco
    Wave - 6
Released here - not yet (not ever?)
    Approximate Retail Price - $25
    Approximate Size - Robot 13cm, Vehicle 10.5cm
    Allegiance - Autobot
    Alt-mode - Tow-truck
Main Features/Gimmicks - wheels, tow-truck crane, roof lights on pivot.
Main Colours - Green, black, yellow stripes
Main Accessory - Tow-truck crane, transforms to handgun

Can't find a thread on this guy, so surprisingly I might be the first with one in hand. Will try to post my own pics later tonight - for now, here's the official one:

    Vehicle mode:
A lot of the same criticism as for Trailcutter in the size department, as is inevitable. Overall I do like the colors they chose for the repaint - looks very close to G1 Hoist as far as I can tell from pictures of the G1 toy I can find. The change in accessory to the tow-truck crane works quite well.

    Transform:
I like it... simple, fairly intuitive, but does the job with some satisfaction.

    Robot mode:
Suffers the same hollow lower legs as Trailcutter. Otherwise I probably like the look of this guy better, mainly attributable to the colors, plus the accessory makes a little more sense. I'm still pondering on whether I'd get that upgrade kit to give him the cannon arm and back-fins. Poses OK, head doesn't look up, no waist articulation My bad - there IS a waist swivel

Overall for the toy, I'd go with 6.5/10

    Just got these done:

The colors just work better on the Hoist mold IMO

Waist swivel! Plus I get a gun! Just don't look at my legs...

Yep, it's a teeny tow-truck. Guess you could do... motorbikes?

That's an excellent suggestion, so I'm happy to oblige:

I think these guys look very good together... although once again, Hoist is a tad too small!

Grapple ought to be bigger, but the size problem is probably just as bad in robot mode.

well everywhere i've read people have the same opinion that Megatron should be voyager sized and bumblebee shouldn't be taller than everyone else...

as a toy it looks pretty good. its an update to an old character and looks very playable.

scale-wise its terrible and this will always be an issue for all of us, which is why im hoping that the Masterpiece line will really make me want to sell my henkei collection.

    good photos though

I see what you mean, especially in vehicle mode. Still, it doesn't look too bad all things considered.
Now I just need to find a cheap Henkei Grapple before Hoist comes out over here...and a Scout Breacher to go with the Seaspray I picked up a while back.

Great little figure. Colours are better than Trailbreaker and the crane is better than the tray cover. Comic is nice but totally missable in the overarching context of the IDW fiction.

A nice toy; much more effort has been put into the colour apps than with Trailcutter. My main criticism of this toy is the hook section which could've been more solid; mine easily comes apart. Also it doesn't seem to lock into position in gun mode. There's also no visible Autobot insignia in robot mode, but the logo is clearly visible in vehicle mode. I would've rather seen it the other way around, as we saw with Car Robot and Binaltech. I like toys that conceal their logos in alt mode but reveal them in robot mode as it really plays along with the 'robots in disguise' play element.

But overall this is a nice solid toy.

I've posted a comparison photo between G1 and Generations Hoist here.

Though the thought occurs, a set of 2-packs of Hoist/Grapple and Red Alert/Inferno would be pretty sweet.

Even though I already own all of the figures, if the above 2 packs were released I would buy them in a heartbeat.
