While it had some wonderful visuals & set pieces, you could have quite easily removed the character of Max from the movie, replaced him with Betty White and his absence would still go unnoticed.

The story served no purpose, & couldn't have as there wasnt one [Run away. Stop. Head back] while some moments left me wondering if Miller had pulled off the con of the decade with his all flash and no substance method of film making.

And people bash Bay for making films with nothing but car chases and explosions

I like a good chase scene in a movie and this whole movie was the best car chase ever! And sure Max's role was not that important but as someone that's never seen any of the previous Mad Max movies I didn't care. It was Furiosa's tale and she was fantastic. It was a very visual movie and the visual storytelling was top notch. Most enjoyable time I had I a cinema all year.

Other than in the first, Max is barely a character. He's used as a vessel for telling interesting stories of wasteland survivors, so I have no issues of his "redundancy" in fury road.

    Good year overall.

I can't get my partner to watch Mad max once, she gave up at the beginning says it does not make any sense, but I have watched it 3 times at home. Max says very little, his story is told by his actions. Many say it doesn't have a story, but it does. It helps to watch it a couple of times, it comes across as simple but becomes something more when you add up all the little nuances of each character. Honestly its more than just an action flick.
I really enjoyed Jurassic World and Age of Ultron the most.

Do yourself a favour - watch the original Mad Max from 1979. Now that is raw Aussie film-making at its best. Sure some of the special effects (if you'd call them that...) are a little simple compared to today's standards but the cars & the action... Phwoarr!!!

Sherlock: The Abominable Bride was really good. Its a shame that yeserday was the only time too see it in Australian Cinemas (with recliners )

I concur wit your view, Mad Max was an action movie done right, simple story line free of the usual convoluted poorly written plot. Also in a franchise named Mad Max we know after the titular character is not going to get killed, so focusing on the Furiosa and the other characters gave the film some real tension.

I also like that it didn't get bogged down in nostalgia line most sequels this year.

probably my favourite film that came out this year, my second would be Ex Machina.

I don't, he's great at directing action, I just wish he could do it without the porny shots and frat boy humour also hiring a few more writers to go over the scripts for his films wouldn't hurt.

Oh wow, so to no surprise at all the trailer for the World of Warcraft film is even more embarrassing at imax than I thought possible, but made better by the fact that it's followed up with a video by the director/some actors in it explaining "No seriously it's a good film we have many computers and orc".
