A: I don't think we are meant to debate others ideas.

B: It's almost all long term stuff that will cost big money, yes the big budget items cost a lot in the short term but if it works it will bring in money long term. If the Australian government and Australian business comes up with more patentable ideas like Wifi (which was invented by the CSIRO and brought in around half a billion dollars) then it will bring money into the country. Australia can't export physical goods to make money anymore, it needs an IP (intellectual property) based economy. To do that you need to educate the young, which means you need better schools, universities and internet. You also need to ditch fossil fuels because it's been scientifically proven that living near a coal fired power plant (and likely other carbon producing things like cars) both impacts physical health and intelligence, not to mention it causes climate change. Also solar and wind energy is cheaper than coal so it solves the issue of rising power cost.
