I generally have an understanding with the fans I know personally, but there's no hard and fast rule.

I tend to bid on international auctions far more than local ones, anyway.

In the last month I've bidded on stuff in Singapore, Hong Kong, the UK, Canada, the USA and the Philippines. I can't recall an Australian auction in that time!

Is there a protocol or a gentlemen's agreement (Yes I know this isn't a politically correct phrase, so to the sole female Ozformer here,
I apologise <---- this makes it better) that should be followed? I think everything is up for grabs and is fair game unless you willingly make a pact.

I recently bid and won something on Ebay and got a slightly spiteful message from the guy who lost out. No one likes to lose on an item they've been desperately seeking for a long time. By posting our ebay names here (though some ebay names are similar to Ozformers nicks), it could be inviting bad blood.

Again, the choice not to post your ebay nick is your discretion. Just something to think about.
Yeah sure man. No hard feelings if you outbid me on something I've spent my lifetime attempting to obtain even though we are brother Ozformers.

Just like there should be no hard feelings when I stalk someone relentlessly day and night, begin calling their place at weird hours with silence, heavy breathing or my voice disguised with the Peter Cullen Optimus Prime Movie helmet, boiling their pet rabbits, initiating blood curses on them and creating voodoo dolls in their likeness.

    It's all good!

All's fair in love and war... and in bidding.

One of my favorites... three OzFormers competing:

Mine's pretty obvious (griffin-of-oz), but I rarely bid on anything local. The sort of stuff I am after is either too rare to be found locally, or is UK figures that a certain bad dealer often has listed.

Since it would be quite often that multiple board members would be watching or bidding on the same item, it's really difficult to say what to do. There's no way of knowing how much another person who has bidded first, is prepared to pay, without asking them. And what if you left it to the first bidder, in a gentlemanly way, but a third person comes along and wins the auction at a price less than what you would have bid on it for?
When someone else contacts me about an item I am bidding on, I usually just tell them how much I am bidding, and leave it up to them. If they were wanting to pay more, I say go for it, and if my bid amount is too high for them, they won't bid against me to push up the final sale price.
If you see someone here has bid on something you are interested in, just contact them. If you already know them, you will probably be honest to each other with how much you both want it for. If you don't yet know each other, it still doesn't hurt to talk to them about it.

Oh I would like to take this opprtunity to apologize to any brother/sister ozformers, as limited as I am in bidding on the local ebay only ( I am paranoid in getting F@$&d up on overseas bidding), I try to avoid as much as possible when I see a fellow bidding on the same item in my watchlist...... BUT I do outbid especially if its the ones Im really really really after - Pretenders in particular - to a certain price range of course.... such occurences has happened before - with dirge, demonac, gutsman and with 1orion2many and I did apologize for outbidding him in the old boards and breaking the old dog's heart and crushing his dreams to impunity of owning the figure (just kidding). There was indeed a topic discussion of this nature back in the old boards, started by 1orion himself, I believe regards to the gentleman's understanding on ebay bidding ( get the heck of my way... er nah not that ) but Im too lazy to look for it. Again apologies in advance..... it was generally settled there anyhow to communicate and a friendly "all's fair in the bidding war" understanding I believe. And that is what I'm adhering to since....

i think at the end of the day, if you want something enough, bid on it. i dont like the idea of not bidding on something i want for someone else to win it for less than my max - that being said id prefer one of us win it ovr some random bum
