Question How to open a boxed toy without creasing / damaging the end tab?

What's the best way to open a boxed toy without damaging the end tabs? I always seem to crease the end tabs upon pulling it out. The side tabs get in the way.

This relates to boxes only. Opening carded items thread can be found here (courtesy of GoktimusPrime).

    Thanks in advance.

Have you tried using that little hook at the end of a nail clipper's file? I must confess that this has never crossed my mind.

I use a Stanley knife but have to be careful not to cut anything.

I insert the blade between the card flap which hangs from the top (or bottom) of the box and lever them (gently!) apart, but only just enough to prevent them catching as I open the box.

    Hope this helps

Good question. The mass retail stuff like Hasbro's Generations packaging is particularly hard not to damage.
I have a list of all G1 characters that have been released in CHUG form. You can find it here. Please feel free to let me know if I got anything wrong so I can fix it.

Use a ruler that isn't very thick, slide it all the way underneath the flap and lift slowly!

This. A metal rule, or a letter opener. Slide it in the side and use it to hold the tabs apart.
Any figure that comes with swords demands wrist articulation.

That leaves more questions than answers.

Thanks but I would be too worried I'd cause more damage to the box with my unsteady hands.

Great tip guys. The metal ruler worked a treat.
