Okay, let's cut to the chase. Here's the most important change that has been made to SS27. The addition of a metal pin on the roof hinge that fixes all of SS01's problems.

    SS01 (L) & SS27 (R)

SS27 vehicle mode - aside from the additional rust and scratch effects, SS27 is a slightly lighter shade of yellow than SS01, making it look more faded.

SS01 (L) & SS27 (R) - SS27 has no paint ops on the belly panel, I suspect because more of the paint budget was absorbed by the custom wear & tear on the vehicle.

    SS01 (L) & SS27 (R) - SS27's gun arm is completely silver

I mixed and matched some parts -- here is SS27 with SS01's belly panel and gun arm

    Overall
The addition of a metal pin is really something that should've been done with SS01 all along. I'm surprised that it was never made as a running change to the figure, but I suppose Hasbro were waiting until the release of this figure to further encourage people to buy this repaint... and it's worked on me (although my SS01 was a bday gift ).

Worth buying? Absolutely. Although if you already own SS01 then I can understand the hesitation. But if the roof panel thing really bugs you (and it seriously gave me the faecal excrements), then I high recommend checking this figure out.
