Dug this thread up because I've just discovered an alternative band called Walk the Moon and they are bringing back New Wave music (80's pop/rock). This is their latest track "Shut up and Dance with Me"

I previewed their whole album on iTunes as I was concerned that this song will be a one off but the whole album is done in that new wave style and it is fantastic

Symphony Of Destruction is even more awesome when it's the one with the film clip that has scenes from various G1 episodes such as the one where the unscrupulous mayor creates Decepticon Day.
