Default Toy Review RID(15) Mega Optimus Prime

    Mega Optimus Prime
    Series – RID(15)
    Sub-line – Step-Changers
    Size/class - Mega
    New/remould/redeco - New
    Wave - 3
    Released here - Yes
    Approximate Retail Price - $50
    Approximate Size – 28cm
    Allegiance - Autobot
    Alt-mode - Truck
    Main Features/Gimmicks – 3-step changer
Main Colours – Blue, Red, Black
    Main Accessories – None

    Robot Mode
Quite a nice looking Prime, good head sculpt. Limited articulation in arms and bugger all in legs sadly. The white stripes on the chest and shoulders lend him a nice bit of flair.

    Vehicle Mode
Actually not bad looking, looks like a kinda cool Japanese futuristic truck. The black of the trailer really helps differentiate it from the cab. Could haveused some more paint apps like the lights on the back done in orange and some silver hubcaps. But quite nice for a simple toy.

    Transformation
Well it’s a 3 step changer so very basic, still a few little nubs you’ve got to make sure are in the right place otherwise the truck looks really dodgy from the back.

    Overall
Well it’s far less impressive then the TAV21 Leader Class Optimus with the fully functional trailer that is coming out later in the year. However this toy is cheaper, available in Australia and is more suitable for younger kids so whichever way ya wanna go really. Still a decent figure though

When I first saw it my impression was

    meh

now learning that it barely has any articulation. My point still stands.

    Now to wait for TAV21
I'll update this when I'm needing help finding particular figures

I still contend that it is a 1-step, as it has the same transformation as 1-step Thunderhoof... and I think it is just marketing that had it labelled as a 3-step.

At least you can hook up Mini-Cons to this version - forgot to mention that in the review.

Takara's hardon for geewun bothers me. The red/black paint scheme is a welcome change and something I vastly prefer over the typical red/blue.
