    Default VP's Dumping Ground

As you guys may have noticed - I've recently gotten into photography and have been posting quite a few pics in the "Toy Photography - From Transformers to Non-Transformers" thread.

I've decided to create my own thread and have it as a creative outlet where I can upload and group all my pics together.

I'm not going to re-post all the pics here, but if you want to have a look at them one by one, please feel free to have a look at each post here.

Hopefully you can see improvements as I've progressed along with more practice and playing with the correct light/camera settings.

Please note that I do not use photoshop or any photo editing software on my pics whatsoever - I refuse to do so since IMHO, it's cheating.

A good photographer will push the boundaries of what his camera can do and this is what I strive to be - so I present them to you in their most pure, un-retouched glory.

Anyways, here are some of my favorite pics:

    Glorious Lugnut

    Masterpiece Starscream

    ROTF Mindwipe

    Universe Galvatron

    ROTF Bludgeon

    WFC Soundwave

    Henkei Astrotrain

    Thanks mate.

In terms of great photos, you will find that it's not just the camera/lens combination, but also many other factors such as lighting, aperture, shutter speed, etc.

But to answer your question, the camera I use is the Canon EOS 550D.

For toy pics, I alternate the lenses from either of the following:

    Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6
    Canon EF 50mm f/1.8
Tamron SP 60mm f/2 Di II Macro

Lately I've moved away from the EF-S 18-55mm since it's just not as sharp or as fast as the other two.

Feel free to ask for advice on cameras in this thread.

    Thanx STL!

Here are links to non-TF pics (which I posted in the other pic thread):

    Matrix - Trinity
    Matrix - Neo
    Matrix - Morpheus
    SF - Akuma
    SF - Akuma
    SF - Akuma
    My 370Z

And I'll re-post these ones here since they're a good example (according to jena who teaches photography - even though they're not the sharpest pics) of what you can do with the various settings on a DSLR:

    Aperture Priority

    Shutter Priority

you've taken some really cool looking photos VP... i especially dig the smirking starscream!

i'm so jealous of your 370Z mate, any chance you consider trading for a '67 VC Valiant?
    ( i know, i know.... worth a shot though. lol )

If it was a '67 Mustang, I'd half consider it, but it never hurts to ask I guess.

I find the descriptions Aperture Priority and Shutter Priority so confusing!

To me, the 2 pics you posted should be labelled:
All in focus shot - Small aperture (slow shutter speed)
Starscream in focus shot - Large aperture (fast shutter speed)

They really didn't want to make this topic easy to understand, considering the "large" aperture might be f/5.6 whereas the "small" aperture might be f/32!

    You take great photos though

    Thanks!

I labelled the pics as such in reference to the modes on the camera (AV and TV = Aperture and Shutter Priority) - which is how they teach you to distinguish between the two in basic photography classes.

Here's the metadata for the pics if anyone cares

    Aperture Priority:
    60mm
    f/22
    3.22
    ISO 800

    Shutter Priority:
    60mm
    f/2
    1/40
    ISO 800
