They're called shogun warriors or Machinders. i got a few small ones in a lot once and have been collecting em a bit ever since. i'm not sure if that particular one fires his fist but i'm sure there would be a version that does.
there are tiny versions about 3 inches and jumbos at 23 inches.
Those 2 are my first ones at that size. (medium version about 5 inches)
Actually i think there are smaller jumbo's as well

Ahhh... thanks Geigerrock-2 They're the ones. Mine is the one on the left which I think is the same as the one in your pic. See the arm with the yellow button on it; that fires off the fist. The axe also shoots out of his other hand (I don't think I have the axe anymore...).

Has there ever been any fiction behind these e.g. show, comic etc. Just wondering the reason why my parents bought me one all those years ago. I probably just thought it was cool and wanted one

Yeah i think there must have been a show or something (maybe in the 70's). That one is called Dragun. there's heaps of them .
Mazinger, Grendizer , Raiden, Gaiking. I think Gigantor or tetsujin28 was one of them too (but may that have been another show) Some of the rarer ones fetch a mint. The other one in the pic is called Posieden , his legs are on backwards but they are also pictured backwards on Draguns box too. not sure if they were like that in the show or if it was a factory error

just got him out..... My god that fist flys off!! (currently trying to fish it out from under the fridge) The axe mechanism doesn't work on mine anymore would've been good in it's day though

Not as Impressive as Kurdt's japan haul, here is my non-transformer selection.

Super Robot Chogokin Gokaioh. Pirates = AWESOME.

Probably the best robot figure I've seen in a while:
DORAEMON! I've been wanting that for ages, it's soo cute and rather versatile. (magnets in the hands so he can hold his stuff. Clever)

And the Rio:Bot Gurren Lagaan. Love the look, hate the price. Nice box presentation, although the figure itself look small inside, it has a fair few accessories.

Gonna have to open when I get home methinks, although I should check them I guess.

Oh and new Camera. After 8 years, my normal one has been playing up a bit lately.

Wow. Some impressive hauls. I wouldn't mind owning 1 Macross fighter, but they are always just out of reach of my budget. Just.

I really wanted to get Canti but he's way to expensive for such a small figure.
