Default Aerial / Orbital Assault Bruticus!

Continuing the Summer of unfinished projects here's a custom from June 4 2016. Feeding off the hate that combiner wars blastoff was not a space shuttle and all the excellent work the Transformers community did to make him a shuttle i had the idea or an Orbital or Aerial Bruticus made up entirely of blastoff's.

This uses 2 shapeways kits from Steamshield's Bot foundry
    http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/thread...leted.1061796/

    and Transformation Station for Vortex
    http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/thread...-mods.1059455/

A third kit was from Tranzformers Accessories Bazzar
    https://www.facebook.com/Thatguyhome/

The paint was a pain the secret sauce was 30 drops of Tamiya Nato Brown to 1 drop of Dark Green and 1 drop of Metallic Blue, for every 4 batches of this i added 1 drop of Flat White. The colour match is ok but the stock figure is glossy.

Other colours used are Leadbelcher and Xereus Purple from Games workshop, Gunmetal, Flat Yellow Copper, Clear Red, Clear Green all by Tamiya.

    Default Steamshield's Blastoff.

Great kit printed in Strong White flexible polished base coated in Tamiya Flat Black after a good scrub before the top coats.

    Default Tansformation Station's Blastoff

I wanted this guy as a let but his transformation seems to only work well as an arm with the kit.

Mixing colours can be a real pain. I always seem to mix way too much, and never seem to use the balance later on, or I have juuuuust not quite enough, and when I go to mix more, boom, I’m out of one of the colours I need. Bah!

You’ve done a fabulous job though. Kudos!!

Thanks mate, i'm a bit of a brush snob to be honest. I used a Neef pure sable size 4 flat and size 8 flat to laydown the Games workshop Leadbelcher base coat for the dark grey, it needed 2 coats.

For the top recess base coat on the thighs I used a Neef pure sable size 1 flat.

For the bigger panels on the chest I the same size 1 flat, for the edges and finer parts I used my Windsor and Newton Series 7 size 0 to lay down the Xereus Purple and the custom brown mix.

To pick out all the tiny bits in the the thighs used a Windsor and Newton Cottman 333 Rigger size 0. I needed the longer bristles so it didn't stuff up the surrounding bits (i just used the tip).

I also used this for the Tamiya Copper and Metallic Blue on the chest and the flat yellow.

There's ALOT of layers to the paint, to make the Clear Red brighter on the chest just next to the insignia I used the size 0 brushes to put down Tamiya Flat Aluminium and then went over that with the Clear Red.

The most important thing with this work is to keep the points goods. Between each colour the brushes were washed with water, then Windex, then water again and then The Master's Brush Cleaner and Restorer to shape the point back before being dried upside down to used with a new colour. I generally have 3 of each of my brushes so they have time to dry between me switching colours.
