    Default TFs in Hong Kong

Can anyone suggest or recommend any good stores in HK for some TF shopping?

    Thanks.

Department stores are actually worth checking out though. HK dept stores get a lot of Hasbro stuff that isn't released here as well as the odd Takara stuff, probably imported through Hasbro HK (much like how we got some Masterpieces imported here by Hasbro AU) - last time I was in HK I found Pepsi Convoys were shelf-warming all over the place in regular dept. store toy sections! But yeah, I don't know anything about specialist stores.

I tried to meet up with Remy when I was there last, but it didn't work out (neither of us could find a mutually available time... maybe next time - I'd love to see that guy's collection )

    Mong Kok:
Try the following shopping malls: Siu Maan (兆萬), Sun Woh (信和), In's Point (現時點), Gaai Wong (皆旺).
They are all within 10-15 min walking distance of each other (if you can get through the crowd). Most people only check out the levels of each mall linked by the esculators. But there're actually even more shops if you take the lift to level 16 of Siu Maan and level 9, 10 of Sun Woh.

Also opposite to the Siu Maan mall is a store called Animate (宇宙船). There used to be 3 in Mong Kok. 2nd one is actually in the basement of Sun Woh mall.

    Wanchai:
Try a street called Taai Yuen street (太原街), then a shopping mall called 188 (東方188).

Don't think that because all shops are in the same mall then their prices would be similar. Big mistake. The price difference of one shop and another shop on the same level can be very big. Be sure to check out all shops (at least in the same mall) before taking out your wallet. Also keep in mind that prices in shops can change crazy fast (a few times on the same day for some brand new and hot items).

Kyle, I could be wrong if you've been to HK more recently than me. I was there in Feb this year and every year for once or twice since '99.

Siu Maan (兆萬) is a MUST go. Go to all the upper levels and to the basement levels. Basement levels only open at 4pm daily.

Sun Woh (信和) is not worthwhile to go for a TF fan. It's of late, become a 'soft toy' paradise. I could be wrong though. I've never been to level 9 and 10.

In's Point (現時點), I assume this is the Yau Ma Tei one we're talking about, is another MUST go.

A TF fan can probably skip Animate (宇宙船).

The shops in Taai Yuen street (太原街) are quite scattered and its a really crowded street. Go if you have time.

188 (東方188) was heavenly back in the early 2000s, but it has of late turned into a gaming plus porno paradise. Not much in terms of TFs or even toys, but lots of PC games.

Sugar street in Causeway Bay has great shops too. Wampoa has a shop that sells Encores cheap as chips. There's also a scattering of shops in the Jordan area.

I'll have to dig it out, but I can provide you with the actual addresses of these places.

I was there in Jan this year.
I also travel back once a year.
And I also maintain daily contact with people who visit these places two or three times a week.

Siu Maan (兆萬) is a MUST go. Go to all the upper levels and to the basement levels. Basement levels only open at 4pm daily.

Level 9 and 10 Sun Woh (信和) IMHO are VERY worthwhile if you've never been there.
As to its lower levels, I still wouldn't miss the newer "cubicle shops". A friend of mine owns one of them in the basement and I got my own Henkei Crystal Convoy from him at a very reasonable price. There're heaps of sellers who offload rare, harder to find exclusive items at these shops all the time. You can find stuff such as Jizaitoys Wheelie and Cyclonus, Henkei Crystal Convoy, Wonderfestival and other convention exclusives if you visit these shops at the right time.

In's Point (現時點), I assume this is the Yau Ma Tei one we're talking about, is another MUST go.
Yes. It's within walking distances of the other Mong Kok shops so I've also included it on the MK list.

A TF fan can probably skip Animate (宇宙船).
Actually, Animate sells Japanese TF books which are not sold in most toy shops. Also, I took into account the fact that some of our members are also into many other non-TF robot toys such as SOC.

The shops in Taai Yuen street (太原街) are quite scattered and its a really crowded street. Go if you have time.
Taai Yuen street has one of the most important shops (Hung Hing) which also operates as a toy wholesaler. I would visit them if I'm after the latest Animated and Universe 2.0 toys at very reasonable prices.

188 (東方188) was heavenly back in the early 2000s, but it has of late turned into a gaming plus porno paradise. Not much in terms of TFs or even toys, but lots of PC games.
I still wouldn't rule out 188 though. A shop there continues to have a very good supply of rare and older Japanese TFs. My friend bought me my BT-17 there at a SUPER price.

Sugar street in Causeway Bay has great shops too. Wampoa has a shop that sells Encores cheap as chips. There's also a scattering of shops in the Jordan area.
Another friend of mine works for the Wampoa shop (Kei Chui) that you mentioned. I often rely on him to help me get items I'm after.

    Thanks guys.

I just hope that I'll be able to fit it all in the weekend I have planned there.
