liege: they all in "ryuu" which means "dragon" and is also part of the Japanese word for dinosaur (kyouryuu).

h_d: would it help if you read the names in kanji?

Gouryuu = 剛竜 ("Hard Dragon")
Kakuryuu = 角竜 ("Horned Dragon")
Gairyuu = 貝竜 ("Shell Dragon")*
Yokuryuu = 翼竜 ("Winged Dragon")
Rairyuu = 雷竜 ("Thunder Dragon")
Doryuu = 土竜 ("Earth Dragon")

------------------------------
*TFwiki translates Gairyuu's name as "armoured dragon," but I can't think of any Kanji pronounced as "gai" that would mean "armour." AFAIK the Japanese word for armour is yoroi 鎧, although the word for 'shell' can be synonymous with armour I suppose (?). You've got the Chinese translation of Transformers Generations right? How have they translated Gairyuu's name?

Great stuff. The Kanji definitely helps if I read it in Chinese!

Here's what we have then:

Icepick = Gouryuu = 剛竜 ("Hard Dragon")
Slog = Kakuryuu = 角竜 ("Horned Dragon")
Bristleback = Gairyuu = 貝竜 ("Shell Dragon")
Wildfly = Yokuryuu = 翼竜 ("Winged Dragon")
Birdbrain = Rairyuu = 雷竜 ("Thunder Dragon")
Scowl = Doryuu = 土竜 ("Earth Dragon")

According to the Chinese version of TF Generations...
Bristleback = Gairyuu = 貝竜 ("Shell Dragon") = 長 尾 怪 ("Long Tail monster/creature")

It's confusing huh.

Rost in Tlansration. Then again, I think I recall some of the Chinese names were wildly different from the Japanese names where you'd think they could do a straight translation... like isn't the Chinese name for Ginrai totally different? Because Ginrai in Kanji would be 神雷 ("God Thunder"). And the Trainbots' names should all be translatable to Chinese, especially Shouki who is actually named after a character from Chinese folklore!

On a slight tangent, I find it interesting how in 1989 we had two gestalts, both named after Caesar, but one used the Classical Latin pronunciation (Lio Kaiser) while the other used the English* pronunciation of "See-zer" (Road Caesar). (:

-----------------------
*based on Vulgar Latin?

Targetmaster Scourge is now presentable enough to formally add to my collection:

He just needs some Reprolabels and then he will be pretty good.

Here are some photos of arrivals this week (also shown in the May Acquis Thread):

MIB Powermaster Optimus Prime with Apex Armour aka God Ginrai (very impressed with the sheer size Prime has become with his God Bomber/Apex Armour)
MIB Brave Death Garry - i know he's not technically a TF but I wanted something of the same mold to play with, so i could keep the real version sealed
MISB Sky Garry
There's a story behind this, when it arrived the main box was attached by customs So the box was slashed open and retaped. Luckily they kept the main prize untouched

And Death Garry aka Brave Sky Garry out and ready.

Now if only they made SKy Garry's reprolabels, I'd fix him up to be a real TF
Not bad for a Brave recolour, also came with the three extra non-firing launchers for micromasters and two rubber robot decoys.

So, can't combine into Dinoking yet and wife was not happy. She said 'it's not even fit for purpose, I can't combine them'. Don't want to force the joints yet, but again, wondering whether anyone has any ideas how to loosen joints that have gripped tight with age without breaking the toy.

I might start a thread to gather opinion from restoration/modelling experts like kup, KelvinChang99 and stencilator (is he still around?).
I mentioned this to Sky Shadow at the Fair today, but my wife and I managed to solve this tight joints issue with (guess what) - Zippo Lighter Fluid! It can do stickers, it can loosen joints. I'm going to christen it the miracle fluid.

I described how I did it at length in an article on my site here.

Here's are some shots of Dinoking which thanks to my wife's efforts, we managed to finally combine yesterday.

What is Zippo lighter fluid made from chemically? I have had to use a lubricant on some of my Monstructors joints, in that case I used lubricant meant for keeping an electric shavers blades operational, which I think is the same as sewing machine lubricant.
