Nice movie collection you have there.

I know people are a bit against Ultimate Bumblebee, but honestly, I don't think he's that bad. For a toy that size with all the electronic gimics he has, they (Hasbro) managed to pull it off quite well even if it is a bit over-priced. Still the second-best movie Bumblebee behind the HA version in my humble opinion.

do you really think so??? he is completely unposable and if you look at him from the back he is a car with the hood flipped over the front. i thought it was gonna be an amazing figure so i got it and about 2 mins into playing with him i was really annoyed at how bad he is. but thats just my oppinion. for the ammount he costys they should have done something much much better!

The size is offputting to me because it makes him really badly out of scale with other movie toys. I don't even know how you're meant to play with a toy like that... if I tried to make him battle Barricade or Ravage then he'd just tower over them. The lack of articulation also really hurts... unarticulated brickformers went out of style back in 1995. Even by 1996 standards any toy with less than 9 points of meaningful articulation is sub-par, and by contemporary standards is inexcusably poor. The design doesn't appeal to me either; the car bonnet doesn't shift apart to form the robot chest like the Deluxe toy can, which I think is pretty weak. Now couple all this with the hefty price tag attached to this toy and there's just nothing about this toy that appeals to me.

Yes please!

...as long as I don't have to pay for it.

I'm sure there's someone out there who'd buy it off you.

I guess that's why I don't mind the toy as I never paid $120 for it It was about half that price.

Even the crapiest of toys become popular over time e.g. G1 Bludgeon thanks to Mr. Furman Definitely not worth the price it fetches on the second-hand toy market. Glad I got mine early on.

That's why when evaluating a toy I tend to compare it with it's original/standard retail price, and not reduced sales or inflated after-market prices. For example, I got Combiner Class Devastator for $97 on sale at Big W (which was still a rip off mind you), but when I evaluate that toy I compare it with its original retail price which was something ridiculous like $270.

Bludgeon's not a bad toy by 1989 standards, and particularly by Pretender standards (remember that the engineering in Pretenders is often compromised to make them fit inside the shells). Some merits of the toy include:
+ It has a good recognisable alt mode. You see his alt mode and you immediately know it's a tank. Look at the alt modes of other Pretenders like say Waverider, Splashdown or Sky High (let's face it, without those rotor blades Sky High does _not_ look like a helicopter) -- or worse than all of those, Gunrunner (he transforms into a jet's _undercarriage_?! wtf!?!). The 1989 Pretenders were better than the 1988 Pretenders insofar as having better recognisable alt modes; they were better robots in disguise than the '88 Pretenders. I also like how the barrel can be stowed inside the shell and the turret becomes a shield. Incorporating alt mode parts into stowage or accessories is commonplace now, but was a rarity in G1! (it only became widespread practice in Beast Wars)
+ The "Samurai Skeletor" shell is pretty cool (despite being bright orange!).
+ The engineering of the actual robot is quite decent by G1 standards. Again, a lot of the 1989 Pretenders were engineered well enough that the robots themselves were pretty solid toys, even without being Pretenders. Look at the Kmart Legends/Heroes -- Classic Pretenders sold without their Pretender shells in countries like the US and Japan. But how many kids would want to buy a toy like Iguanus or Landmine on their own? Eep!

I have no idea what this toy would fetch now, but you're probably right. Even Furman once said that had he known back then how popular Bludgeon would become, he would've bought a whole boxload of them back in '89 and make a mint selling them now.
