I wouldn't call a fingerprint in the paint minor. Maybe I shouldn't have overreached and mention Windblade.

Can you use the fingerprint to track who painted it and get them to redo the paint job?

Thanks Delta. Power's still off at home, but Ergon are saying tonight, so we'll see. Hope you and the other members in the region made it through okay.

By the time the cyclone got to Gladstone it only had enough strength left to knock over trees, do a tiny amount of damage to the power grid and knock out both landline and mobile phones for a little while. So don't worry about me at all.

It's a matter of perspective, to a collector it may be a deal breaker, but considering what we're discussing is technically a mass produced children's toy, there's an expectation that there will always be a chance of less than perfect - HLJ even state as such on each product page, paint defects are not considered faults with the product....

Missing parts or damage out of the box (or close to, like my Silverbolt that RK is replacing) is a different story altogether...

Well that's just bad service. I hear the guys on the Seibertron podcast bitching all the time about bad paint (what they consider bad paint is anything less than perfect) and BBTS replaces figures all the time for them, if BBTS can do it then everyone should.

Just did a check on some of my storage boxes, and a lot of my SCF pvc figures have started to turn sticky :( Some of the clear guys have a slightly yellow tinge which isn't really noticeable until you put them next to an undamaged one. I thought I was ding a good job of keeping them in good condition... Stupid central QLD heat... :/

Humidity is an important factor too. My Star Wars figures from the 70s were all 'sweaty' after being in a bag for decades. Tried stuffing dessicants or dehumidifier into your boxes?

So the other day I was at my local Big-W (which has a very small Transformers range) and noticed an entire rack full of Cyberverse Commander Class Transformers. $5 each, I got Starscream, Bulkhead and Megatron (No OP :()
Anyway, all the weapons broke as soon of out of package except one of Starscreams guns. Megatron sword broke, and Bulkheads 3mm ports snapped and one of Starscreams 3mm ports broke so it is now being used as a sword.
Next Starscreams wing breaks and Megs leg breaks off at knee. And Bulkheads arms fall off all the time. I've kept them though, Starscreams wing goes back into place pretty easily but I've blu tacked Megs leg on until I get a replacement.

This one got me mad but also a little chuckle as well:
I was at Target Highpoint yesterday & I noticed a CW deluxe Dragstrip. It was taken out of the carded bubble. The 'funny' thing was Dragstrip was transformed to car mode & I can only assume a staff member taped it to the outside bubble.

Another one: Price drop & a 'buyer' immediately counters with an even lower price.

RiD2015 must have a pret-ty small budget considering that they've gone with the cheaper cel-shading animation technique and the first season is only 13 episodes long! Compare this with other CG animated TF series...

Beast Wars
Season 1 had 26 episodes. After that, their budget got cut, but instead of lowering animation quality, Mainframe cut the number of episodes in half for Seasons 2 and 3 (13 eps each). Season 2 won an Emmy Award for its visual effects.

Transformers Prime
Seasons 1 and 2 have 26 episodes each with 13 episodes for Season 3 (Beast Hunters). However there was no perceptible drop in animation quality*, and this also became an Emmy Award winning TF series.

I've been less than impressed with the animation in TFRiD2015... it's not terrible per se, but I don't find it terribly exceptional either. And the thing is, RiD2015 was animated by the same animation studio who worked on TF Prime (Polygon Pictures). The only reasonable explanation for the decline in quality and number of episodes would be budget cuts. Quite disappointing for a first season, as first seasons tend to get bigger budgets compared to subsequent** seasons... so if this is the best that RiD2015 can offer us in terms of animation quality, then I'm not getting my hopes up for Season 2. :o

------------------------------------------------------------------
*Except for the "flashback" scenes which were intentionally done as narrated stills, but that was because Polygon's workforce was decimated after the 2011 earthquake/tsunami in Tohoku, Japan. The cheaper and faster animation method was used in order to finish the episode on time with a reduced workforce. Other flashback scenes used the same method to maintain aesthetic consistency; having said that, they do look pretty darn nice!
**Consider the overall decline in animation quality in the G1 cartoon; especially as they became less reliant on Japanese-based Toei studio and more reliant on the budget South Korean based AKOM productions.

I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be 26 episodes for season one... but most US shows these days have mid-season breaks that make it look like two separate seasons. Which is really annoying for the good shows, especially when it now gives them the chance to have two cliffhanger episodes each season for viewers to sweat over for a couple months. :(

I have a feeling that it has been announced somewhere, but now I can't find anything to say how many episodes have been officially announced. I guess we wait and see... but 13 played in quick succession seems very unusual, especially for a first season that is meant to sell a new toyline.

Paulbot

We had 13 in quick succession but in the US they've only aired 3 episodes so far.

Okay, so I downloaded Transformers Angry Birds on my phone today. I have the TF Angry Birds Ultra Magnus and Soundblaster toys... how do I scan them onto the game with my phone? Did you place the base and fig on the front facing camera (the one on the screen)? If yes just move it around as it sometimes needs to get just right to scan properly.

It could also just be an aesthetic thing for the cel shading. I quite like the look of cel shading (when used appropriately) and even though RID is continuing from Prime, perhaps they thought the cel shaded cartoony look made more kid-friendly than Prime.

I haven't watched any RID in any form yet, so just a theory chucked into the wind.

Is there a good way to stick broken pieces back onto Transformers? (specific brand of glue or something?) A friend broke the fenders off my son's Sideswipe and he's been heartbroken ever since. Be nice to find a way to get them back on even if he just has to use Sides for display purposes...

In my experience, not really. Just any brand of household superglue will do it. Sometimes it depends on the exact composition of the plastic used in the toy. But I've even managed to glue breakages due to GPS back together with ordinary superglue and have them be sturdy, so your son shouldn't worry about only being able to display; they ought to be fine for play, too (and if it breaks again, you can always glue it again!).

Loctite is the go, it is the king of all super glue, in Oz it costs about $20.00 for a small bottle but it is far superior than your $3.00 bottle of super glue from the corner store. This has saved me so many times.

This is like half venting, but putting it here since there's no 'Transformers Loving thread!' for the other half of my post :D

MP-24 Saber (medium bot) is probably one of my favourite looking bots in my entire collection. I'm a big sucker for bright primary colours, distinct 'old school' blocky robot aesthetic, so that's no surprise.

But how they thought his leg articulation was Masterpiece grade is beyond me! His hips have basically no outward movement of their own (you can flub it with the thighs but it looks pretty silly), and his feet/ankles may as well be straight out of G1.

Both areas i know have things going on that limit what they could have done, but it doesn't seem like it would have been impossible to improve both aspects significantly. I will say though, the articulation being almost G1 level in places kinda adds to the MP's charm.

I also bloody hate hollow arms! I can understand MP Bumblebee to some degree, he's probably too small. But Saber could have easily had a flip over panel to fill in that gap. It just really hinders the impression of strength/solidity. Opposing robot would be all like "Hit me with those hollow arms and they'll just bend inwards!".

Not so much Saber, but another peeve that seems to be almost every other toy these days - fist guards, or giant slabs of plastic that'd stop a real robot from being able to pick up anything. Acceptable on Legends class but anywhere else just no!

Yesterday at Big W I was looking in the Transformers Aisle while my sister was spending some of the birthday money she got. When I got to the aisle, there was an employee wheeling away a trolley with a box that said 'Transformers' on it. At first I though he had just finished restocking, which he had, in a way. He added one of each of the RiD Legions (which we didn't have before), but the previous two shelves of CW Deluxes, and 2 Shelves of CW Legends, had gone to one shelf of deluxes, which only had 2 offroads and 1 of the other wave 2 stunticons, and the Legends were all hidden behind some bloody RiD 3 Step Changer things. I was so mad, I was planning on getting at least all of Wave 2 Deluxes at my crappy country town. The previous shelves where they were filled with 1 Step Changers. Not RiD 1 Steps, no, there were 3 of those, but he had filled the shelves with shelf warming AoE 1 steps!!! And Heromashers!!! The only good side to this was the Bee-Hive was removed, as were the Power Battlers and the Construct-Bots. Also all the Power Glides were gone.

Hasbro's been doing this for about 10 years now! I first noticed it with their Star Wars Revenge of the Sith Preview figures. But yeah, I totally agree with your sentiment. Do one or the other! Preferably taped as it's easier to remove and friendlier for people who might want to display their toys loose on card. ;) Although glued is better for store security against shoplifters I suppose. :o

Yeah, it's frustrating when you want to support local retail, but distribution is so unreliable that you have little other reliable recourse than to shop online. :( I've been finding myself doing more online shopping in the last 2 years even though I'd much prefer in-store buying. I feel your pain, bro. :o

For a long time now, Transformers have been nearly non-existent in the toy isles. I think all the over stock of dodgy movie stuff that was so slow to move may have done considerable damage and made retailers shy of re-ordering Transformers. They probably see it all as 'Transformers' so they don't understand the differences between lines (movie and generations) or they directly associate them with the movies so they don't care about stocking them in a non-movie year.

That is one of the most poorly designed MP toys ever. I am of the believe they just released a beta version of the mold with no real testing. Plastic tolerances are wrong, transformation is unnecessarily fiddly and the hand designs are clearly bad even with the supposedly 'improved' Hasbro version.

It was the first and only MP toy which I actually felt a bit ripped off after opening.

GoktimusPrime
1st June 2015, 12:48 PM
The Hasbro version was significantly cheaper than the TakaraTOMY one. The TakTOM version retailed for 16800JPY (approx. $180), whereas I got my Hasbro one from TRU for $80, and I later saw it being reduced to $60. So sure, the Hasbro version even with its improvements still carries over many issues from the TakTOM one, but at less than half the price of the Japanese version, I'm not fussed. :) I had the chance to get the Japanese version without needing to pay for postage (I found it while overseas), and I still passed up on the toy because I just couldn't justify the price.

Still, $180-200 for MP9 Rodimus Convoy is arguably a better deal than $150 for TRU's MP Bluestreak

That's not exactly a fair comparison, considering the Takara Tomy one came with the trailer. That said, considering my trailer has been in the box for most of it's life, i don't think it was worth the extra cost either. :p

I hate it when that happens... and they didn't even try to make it look like it was returned unsealed. It looks like half the toy is missing, and the bubble is half empty.
At least if they had repacked it in robot mode, it would be like the occasional Transformers toy that has a different coloured toy to the packaging artwork (like the RID Gold Grimlock & Night Ops Bumblebee).
The staff at stores taking returns really need to do a better job, otherwise it just encourages people to keep defrauding the system.
(those people doing this should be charged with theft or fraud and banned from the store for life)

Only found this this morning while taking photos of my BotCon toys for the write-up... my Megatron has two left feet. (so no dancing for him :p )

The feet are so similar that I'd have never noticed it over the checking of feet and hands at the convention (to get one swapped over as they can slide on and off easily), and I didn't notice it when I took the group photo of my entire haul in robot mode last week because it still stands (but having it on its own I noticed that the right foot wasn't sitting flat to the ground). :(

And in case Yoshi reads this... no, I didn't swap over my Megatron for yours before posting it to you. The bags are still sealed if you are worried.

The interesting thing was that when I asked at the end of the convention about how QC issues were this year, they noted that they didn't look to have anyone come to them with faulty, missing or wrong parts this year... which was a good turnaround from recent years. So if I had found this out while over there, I think I would have been the ONLY person to find a QC issue this year.
I'd say, "what are the odds of that happening", but that's the story of my life... :(

I can't find anything on their site about exchanges or faulty toys... but from what I can remember, I don't think do anything with BotCon toys, as they are pretty firm on people checking their toys at the show if they want anything fixed.
And when I had a Club toy that was missing a part, they wanted me to pay for it to be sent to them for a completely new toy, instead of just posting me the missing part.
It was a $20 membership toy, so it would cost more than that just to do what they wanted... which may be okay for their American customers, but that's the problem with the club, in that it is only structured to cater for Americans.

Try private messaging them. Most of the sellers have their listings defaulted to US-only, under the assumption that international buyers/foreign countries are too fiddly to deal with. I usually msg to assure them that I've bought hundreds of TF's from the US (unfortunately true) and I've only gotten 1 negative exp from the seller's part.

Also, with sellers that allow for international buyers, you should also ask them if they're willing to post via USPS First Class International (as opposed to USPS Priority Mail International). The cost savings is halved, and still gets here in about 5-7 business days on average.

n00b question, what is the significance of that? why does it matter? good or bad?
It only matters to people who are obsessive-compulsive^enthusiastically passionate about collecting toys in mint sealed condition. If the toy has been double taped, then it means that someone's already opened it and resealed it, and thus it's no longer technically "originally sealed." It may have been opened for quality assurance inspection or something, but I guess it matters for those who are dead set keen on ensuring that nobody else has ever touched their toy after the moment of its initial packaging. Of course, up to the point that the toy has been packaged, it would have been touched a lot by the Vietnamese factory workers who manufacture, assemble and indeed package it in the first place, but I guess they want to be sure that nobody else other than them have touched it. :o

If someone like that does end up with a double taped figure, then shouldn't it be easy enough to pre-arrange a swap with someone else who doesn't care about this sort of thing? e.g. someone who's intending on opening the toy anyway. <shrugs> Unless I guess the concern is that there's been an entire batch that's been opened and resealed for inspection, making it difficult to arrange a swap. I guess we'll find out once people start receiving their Trypticons.

TAAUBlaster

n00b question, what is the significance of that? why does it matter? good or bad?

For MISB collectors, it is bad. A double taped box can bring in lower resale prices later because there isn't any proof that can be provided by the seller that they didn't open it previously. And the allure of MISB, is that the contents are fresh and pristine. Straight from the factory line to box. Having a double tape throws that into doubt as obviously someone - whether random QA from a factory worker or someone else has opened the box prior. Thus making the contents no longer fresh and pristine.

Double tape also questions the contents. For example a previous owner may have removed the toy, and replaced it with something much inferior, or a toy from an unrelated line, or just something about the same weight. a MISB collector isn't going to open a box to inspect the contents. So double tape can possibly mean tampering with the contents has happened.

These days double taped boxes seem to be more and more common though.

[EDIT] Pretty much what Gok said. He beat me to it :p

That's not good... hardly "Platinum" then.

The stickers of a lot of reissues have a tendency to peel or just come off. That's why I much prefer tampographing. Stickers just look tacky and are really just put with reissues for the nostalgia factor. But honestly, if I want nostalgia, then I'll go look at my original G1s. I'm happy to have tampographs on my reissues. :)

I would recommend against superglue, if it spreads out past the sticker it will damage the surface of the plastic. it's fumes may also have an effect on the clear plastic if not the regular plastic.

I don't really have an alternative, though if you have some stickers still unapplied I would recommend some gentle isopropyl alcohol to remove any residual mould release agent prior to sticker application.

An alternative is regular tube paste glue. I use that as it is basically as 'sticky' as the sticker back and does not damage the plastic surface. If you need to remove the sticker, you can peel it off and then get rid of the residue like regular stickers.

Of course, don't go nuts and just apply the minimum needed.

I can't find my eHobby exclusive Bad Boy! No idea where it's gone!
Also, my original G1 and G2 Vortices broke. :( G1 Vortex's arm panel snapped, and G2 Vortex's gun post snapped off and is now stuck inside his gun hole. :( I've since fixed G1 Vortex with superglue and did what I should've done when I got Encore Bruticus -- assembled my G1s as Bruticus for display and the reissues as individual robots for play. I initially did it the other way around because I prefer the look of the originals in robot mode; the G1 Onslaught which I've used to form the core of Bruticus is missing his 'backpack,' and the reissue has a different post size and cannot be transferred. Still, better to have it this way to prevent myself from further mucking about with the originals. *sigh*

I have been frustrated with Aussie retail for a number of years, it is why I buy 90% of my Transformers online, the other 10% are usually for my kids.

TRU has improved their stock and despite the price are continuing to release figures that I want, unfortunately I have already per-ordered elsewhere, often significantly cheaper.

Aussie retailers cry foul over customers buying online, I for one have no sympathy

Always go for photo comparisons with figures you already have. Pretty sure there quite a few shots of him compared with Brainstorm's Arcana.

My problem with Ultra Magnus is that he seems to have arthritis because his hands can't grip his weapons properly. Don't see any fault in manufacturing there - there's just nothing to allow him to hold his guns as guns.

Hasbro's MP Grimlock was packaged in Dinobot mode, not sure about the TakTOM version as I never got that.

Still, it's never been consistent, even since G1. G1 Autobot Mini-Cars were packaged in alt or robot mode, the Jumpstarters, Pretenders etc. were packaged in robot mode etc. So yeah, I understand the frustration of "toy spoilers," but it's nothing new. Then it dawned on me... that spare #3 must've been placed in my box by accident instead of #4! Anyway, I was told that if there are any remaining copies of #4 on shelf, then it would be placed in my box, if not, they would order another one for me.

But of course, this means that I can't read #5... it's just sitting there taunting me. I also picked up #1 of Combiner Hunters -- so can I read this now or should I wait until I've finished reading #4-5 of Combiner Wars: Windblade first? I'm assuming that it's the latter. (-_-)

EDIT: So HLJ have already gotten back to me about it. They will take back Menasor and ship a replacement for free and reimburse me for shipping back. Problem solved.

Jazz has been missing from the IDW comics since August 2014 - longer than any other member of Prime's Earth deployment (including Alpha Trion, who I don't really count as a member either). They couldn't even put him in the background of a single panel. Is he even on the ship? :V

I know he's back this month, but like, I bet this absence doesn't even get addressed.

MIT and NASA can get wifi on the moon (http://america.aljazeera.com/articles/2014/5/30/wireless-wifi-moon.html), so maybe he's just been watching netflix the whole time.

Gahhhhh!!!! My PW from HLJ this month is really pissing me off. After it took HLJ a week to send out my PW I find it full of QC problems.

MP-21G G2 Bumblebee's rear bumper broke off in transformation actually breaking the plastic knob on the end and now won't sit back in properly.

QT-23 Optimus and 24 Bumblebee are both a floppy messes.

TAV Drift has some paint chips on his painted clear plastic section.

TAV Sideswipe faired the best with a single (but large) paint chip.

Takara Tomy have really had bad QC as of late, hope it's not going to continue.

Yeah TT should not be charging us too much if they cant their straighten up their Quality. my MP bluestreak has excess paint at rear wiper and the Z emblem is off the center. And they say it is limited production

Gah!

I had a bunch of things I bought in the ebay 15% off sale, however as they were from three different locations, I had to go through the checkout three times - on for each item - and forgot to put the 15% off code for the last one.

Only just realised today when I saw my email saying I had been charged $225 for Combiner Wars Devastator instead of the $190 I was expecting.

---------------------

Today at EB Expo a youngin' came up to me and scoffed at the Combiner Wars display, saying that they were terrible representations of the originals. By originals, he meant Movieverse. I politely told him that CW are based on the classic Generation 1 characters, which are the originals, but he kept on refuting me, insisting that the Bayverse films are the originals and suggesting that anything else is a deviation. It was at this stage that I pulled out my copy of Transformers Generations and showed him pictures of G1 toys and how CW are obviously based on them. I saw him about to open his mouth to argue with me some more, until I saw his eyes drawn to the "1984" (etc.) years printed on the outer margin of each page. He was quite for a while, but kept on muttering on about how the Movieverse is awesome and better than anything else blah blah blah.

Okay, if people prefer the Movieverse over other TF series, fine. But to insistently proclaim that it's the original source and superior to anything else?? It was as if he was saying the G1 ruined the Movieverse. I just... I... yeah...

This after I broke it pretty much out of the package (by forcing it, so I didn't feel right returning it). The fandom is boring me lately with all its bitchyness. I mean, I'll pick on Funpub as much as anyone but the other aspects like whinging about:

Colour being slightly off
Character choice in MP line
Accessory inclusion
Hating on series X because it's not series Y
Hating on RID2015
Alt mode not being what it was in G1
Geewuning
Etc

The worst by far is the official vs 3rd party crap. It's not a competition people!!

FFS grow up. Anyone that types a wall of text, which surely took a significant amount of time, to explain why toy X is better than toy Y, needs to get a life. Seriously, it's a toy.

We need the Internet equivalent of a natural disaster to thin the population a bit. Hopefully the next 4 movies will have that effect.

On one hand, fans complain about stuff because they care so passionately and deeply about it, which is cool. But everything in moderation. But if you think Transformers fans are bad, I think some sports fans are much worse. I shared the cinema with Michael Bay, Megan Fox and Rachael Taylor at the Sydney premiere of TF1. The audience was well behaved. Nobody swore or abused Bay or the actresses. And as bad as the sequels are, TF fans don't go into a violent rage at the end of a Michael Bay film, burning down the cinema, assaulting other cinema patrons, or even crushed or beaten to death (http://idrottsforum.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/table1.jpg)! I recently found out that some sports fans even suffer heart attacks because they get so emotion when watching a sports match! And some of these people have been ordered by their doctors not to watch live games. So yeah, as bad as toy fans can get, we're no where NEAR as bad as sports fans. The kind of language and behaviour that I've witnessed from grown adults at matches is nothing short of disgusting.

Well Transformers may have just ended a friendship for me

Not going on school camp but most of my students were. One who I took last year loved going to Minotaur and Comics R Us in Melb and kept saying "I'll go to those stores again Mr Hopkins and get your comics for you". I kept politely declining. Then the afternoon before camp he said "You know Ms E's son is going as a staff member, I could go with him!". I actually thought that was a great idea as I am/was close friends with him and he loves all that kind of stuff. So I gave his mum $20 and texted him the 3 comics I wanted (TF 45, MTMTE 45 and Windblade 7) and said I hope he and the kids enjoy visiting those stores.

Got the most abusive message from him last night, talking about me manipulating students in order to "pettily manipulate" him to get comics because I knew the kid would stress about it until he got them and I was only interested in getting my comics and not he kids enjoyment and I was full of bullsh*t etc etc.

Texted him back that he was WAY out of line, that it had been the students idea (which he voiced in front of two other staff members so I have witnesses) which I thought was good so I wasn't manipulating kids or him and that I had told him previously he didn't have to do it if he didn't want to, I just thought they would all enjoy visiting the comic stores! Also told him how I could easily have ordered the comics online and had them delieved to me for nearly the same price etc so it's not like I was desperate enough for them to act like a "Petty manipulator".

Haven't heard back but I didn't sleep last night because this stressed me out so much. I don't know if he is going through pot withdrawls or this is his autisms version of 'time of the month' or something but yep - 3 TF comics just cost me a friendship.

But you know what, though I'm still stressing about it, I don't think if this is the abusive way he is going to treat me that the friendship is worth maintaining anyway :(

I've always found it disheartening to read people harshing on something that I particularly like. Would this be a part of what you are talking about? something that you are optimistic about and other people are clearly negative about it for reasons you don't really see?

I know people get picky about a perceived aspect of a toy that there is little information about but I wonder if that's a by product of the internet making everything more accessible, and the general population being more impatient as a result, wanting everything now, now, now. It does frustrate the crap out of me, the expectation that 'HASTAK aren't producing a figure now so I have to get an independent product to stand in for it'. Peoples money is theirs to spend how they see fit but wow, if HASTAK produced every transformer as a Masterpiece that I wanted to buy in the next 2 years, I'd be eating noodles for the rest of my life and living on a single lung.

You know what I think it is? I think it's a massive shift in priorities now that I'm a father. I never used to care. Sometimes I participated myself just for the lolz. But now I have much less time to spend on boards and I have to scroll through so much garbage to find meaningful conversation. Let's take a Masterpiece reveal, everyone becomes an armchair design expert. It's a supreme example of the Dunning-Kruger effect in full swing. That's just one example. Another is colour. There is a guy on another forum that goes on and on and on and on about colour matching. He goes on about hue and saturation to a ridiculous extent and doesn't buy things because of it. He is nearly always disappointed. His collecting life must be hell.

It's got nothing to do with my bias towards any figure. I understand that different people are different. I don't expect everyone to like what I like.

So here's an odd one - the SG Blaster I opened up last night had its right "knee" joint (the piece that connects his thigh to his calf/speakers) installed 180 degrees flipped. So it stood fine, but wouldnt line up when transformed into alt mode. I was sitting there all wtf, thinking i spent good coin on a broken toy out of the box, but finally noticed the error.

Luckily its only a case of 4 screws and flipping the part back over, first time I've experienced a misassembly type of QC derp.

There aren't enough Encore toys. A bunch of the TFC Autobots should have got a release in that line (Prowl, Smokescreen, Hound, Inferno) and I was hoping it would live on and we'd see Encore Chromedome, Apeface, Sureshot, Goshooter, etc etc eventually.

I've lived in hope the line would come back but that seems a slim chance now, and the platinum series seems the only hope for reissues. And that's good but I love Encore's G1 style boxes over the Platnium or TFC style boxes. Encore is the only line I keep MIB.
