According to my Canadian mate, MP Soundwave is now NOT going to be released up there in contradiction to the reports that came out a few weeks ago. He's had to source one through an Amecian contact. The stupid thing is that he said the TRU packaging center for the figure is only 20 minutes down the road from his house  A bugger for those folk that were going to get SW through Canadian contacts and yet another country of folk that will be in competition for the figures that do exist.

Hmmmm, I suppose he could well have been mistaken. He's got his figure so he's happy either way I guess. He didn't provide me with any evidence SW was not coming to Canada, but then I didn't ask him to substantiate his claim :D;)

I guess coz they're near the China Mainland so stock is easier to get.
then it starts to trickle down but unfortunately something stops most releases ever getting here in Aus :(
I just go halfway hehehe, I get mine via a friend in Phils ( or when I go for holidays there - binge buying heheh) as they get lots of stock from HK / Singapore sources unlike Aus.

Back to Australia........ Does anyone know how many units of Hasbro MP Soundwave will be available in November at TRU (breakdonw of state by state or store)?
If its very limited stock, there are going to be dissapointed TF fans, along with posts on the Venting thread!!! Many of us didn't fork out $200 USD + shipping for the privilege of owning one and took the punt on getting it local for $150 AUD. Sometimes you roll the dice and hope TRU Austalia do the right thing by TF fans by having enough MP SW for everyone who wants one.

This waiting game is pure agony.
First up, the supposed release of MP SW in June didn't happen. What was TRU's excuse for the delay?
Then, we all got burned from the hype of ordering from TRU USA, only to find out that international buyers were not welcome. (Some lucky few had the option of 'shipping to home' to a USA address).
One thing is for sure, as we move ever so closer to November, TRU stores will be fielding lots & lots of phone calls asking whether MP SW & Acid Storm have been sighted on shelves or in the back store room.

Australia's distribution channels are often all over the place, especially with regards to Transformers/Toys, but you should expect that capital cities will general see things before more regional & rural areas more often than not. :)

If people think this is going to sell like hot cakes, they going to check again.
I did think about it as well to grab two, then I am hearing a lot of NEWS about high quality KO and Soundwave was mentioned. Now there is already the cassettes KOed.
Think about it, if you think buying all the soundwaves would make you a rich man then that's sad news. There will be alternatives and regardless people would only pay a certain amount above RRP.
Chances are I am going to grab one and that's it. No use to be greedy and then you ended up with dead weight. Mostly grab one and report sightings to help your mates here.

Yes and no, because this has been out for quite a long time, many non-Transformers fans have already gotten it. I even already gotten the Takara version so chances is most of you will get one.

Takara MP-10 had been out for a fair while before the Hasbro version was released as well. That didnt stop them flying off shelves. Also the Hasbro version is significantly cheaper in both cases (OP and Soundwave) so there will be many, like a large portion of board members here, awaiting the local release.
Also I can't ever recall a case where a TF KO release has significantly affected the sales of the genuine item.
drifand
10th October 2013, 12:11 PM
That would depend on scalpers wouldn't it? If they bought up everything and throw Soundwave at ridiculous $300 and then a similar high quality KO is only at $110, I would think that would change everything.
Like said, Yes and No, I am not saying this wont fly off the shelves, it would. But at what rate? snap up within one day? or as per gradually? I am beginning to be very anti-Ebay for new items. And if they are trying to dominate with such method, the only thing I would do is not support it.
Macross Chogokin is one example, I noticed they are beginning to lower some prices because they realized they have reached the potential of what a customer willing to pay, and thus is going to be dead stock to them or they lower it gradually.
For Soundwave, hot item yes, not getting one, I would think is a bit weird, seeing some reported heaps in hk on the shelves. You can count the handful of members here who are interested and technically we all should be able to get one. Unless some moron bought everything.
For me, I think it wont be end of the world, At worst I buy KO tapes, there is no way I be paying $90 just for two small figures, absolutely not. even Sideswipe would be pushing it for me at that price.

End of the day, is Hasbro's TRU call. Making things too exclusive and too difficult people will resort to KOs.
I honestly woudn't like to support KOs. But if people are going make things extremely hard, then it leaves people with limited choices.
Also to note, unlike sideswipe KO which requires a Lamborghini wording, Soundwave would be absolutely nothing of that sort. Making it absolutely hard to find flaws if they replicate it at standards that they are currently producing.
I definitely want to get a Hasbro one if I can. And that will be all for me. If I happened to get zero, then I buy KO tapes and that will be end of it.

I visit my local TRU store every weekend in the hope that it might turn up early. And on just about every occasion, there are one or several people with the same agenda.
I have no doubt these 2 MP lines will fly off the shelves as soon as people get a wiff that they have arrived. Firstly, there are only 600 units or thereabouts for SW and 400 for Acid Storm, unless TRU decides to get a second lot shipped. Secondly, look at Generations Metropelx at Target. Many of us already got him from an oversees online store, yet we ended up buying a second Metroplex from Target (has to be said that he was on special). Thirdly, SW is one of the most popular TF going around.
On the topic of KOs, why would you support fakes. All they do is push up the price of legit items because the likes of Hasbro and TakTom would add a margin in the price to factor in for the potential loss in sales.

Buying a KO is not an option for me personally. Not gonna stop people from buying them either.
But have you thought of asking someone to grab one for you? I can't get to stores often because of the hours I work, so I've asked people who regularly go to pick one up for me. And I know Perth gets low stock too, but someone from the eastern states would more than be happy to get one and post it to you if you were willing to accept the extra postage cost.
There are always other options before resorting to KO.

MP Grimlock Reissue is on preorder for US$200 at BBTS & TFSource. Perhaps cheaper once RK lists him on their online store. But you'll need to bump up your $200 limit slightly if you want to secure him. That's pretty reasonable IMO.

Both of which ended up on clearance, which is probably why they haven't invested in them again. I remember picking up two MP04's for $49.86 a piece.
And there's nothing new from what i've been told as far as SW is concerned.

Crap. :(
Really not sure if I should just spring for the takara version which is still availble online now and call it a day.
I really like the red visor and minor detail differences of the Takara version.
But Hasbro's is such a sweet deal.

The important thing to remember is that neither this, nor the 2nd reproduction of the TT version, will be the last time Soundwave or his tapes will be produced. How long ago was Grimlock released? In the space of twelve months we've already had two reissues/reruns (Asia exclusive and new MP-08), so if you don't get it now, or today, or in November, it's not actually an issue- everything will come to you in time. :)

Yes, most MP is getting reissued now days, it dilutes the market value of the previous version, so far I didn't see Hasbro is reissued MP TF. Also Hasbro MP Soundwave is the best deal in values.

Yes everything will be reissued in time but at what cost? This current release of Grimlock is nearly double the original RRP. Thus I can understand the scramble to obtain the Hasbro Soundwave.
Despite this, it is a good point, avoid paying marked up prices for recentish MP's kids (a lesson I learnt with Sideswipe) as there will be re-runs.

$200 for the new Grimlock seems pretty reasonable to me, given the cost of the original plus inflation. I'd have been pissed if I'd just bought that previous one, though.
For Soundwave, I just gave up and ordered one off eBay. Hasn't arrived yet, but I'm happy with the price. Cost me $180 including shipping. I'm fine with paying $30 to not have a headache, and to know for sure that I've got one.
$30 aggravation tax seems reasonable to me.

It's not reasonable given inflation. Thats only been like 8% since 2009
The answer is rising costs of labour in China. Wages growth since 2009 has been 60%. This is roughly in line with the 2013 price of MP-08 ($200) vs the 2009 price of MP-08 ($130).
If this trend continues the common Australian will not be able to afford TF's! (Of course manufacturing will simply move to a cheaper labour source like Mexico or Africa to counter this)

I think TRU kinda learnt their lesson from MP10. They stand to lose of $26,000 in sales had all 600 MP Soundwave & 400 MP Acid Storm been purchased during the Sale.TRU knows that these items will fly off the shelves faster than Vanila Ice can say 'Bum rush the speaker that booms'.

They also had a 25% off coupon last November 22-24, 30% off November 24-26 the year before & if past % off history and pending release dates are anything to go by, they may not have learnt their lesson afterall. I seriously doubt that they structure their promotional % off coupon schedule around any particular toy/brand.

20th October 2013, 09:05 PM
Yeah, they have new stuff released every week among their hundreds of thousands of lines... so a percentage-off sale at any one week is still going to cost them money off something that was new that week.
And in reality, $26,000 is quite negligible for the total National sales in a week (if by chance all Soundwaves and Acidstorms sold in that first week)... and that's the "investment/expense" that they are hoping makes profit from, either by other items people buy later as a returning customer who is impressed by the outcome, and/or the remaining profit margin of those items on sale... which have 40-50% markup from their wholesale price.

Woah, hold on a second, I think you're taking my comment the wrong way man. If it came across as elitist, I apologise.
What I meant was that Australia is such a small community, if you're a "Transformers collector" (as opposed to someone that collects all sorts of figures and doesn't have a particular focus on Transformers) even if you have limited interaction on the forums it would be near impossible to not have heard the news due to all the publicity the Masterpieces (and Metroplex) have been getting across the net, and as Sinnertwin mentioned above, the google search results.
I in no way intended it to imply that if you haven't heard of him that anyone was less of a collector. :)
And just quickly, my post above was the first time I've uttered a word in this thread, so please don't lump me into this :o

It's okay - the tone of my post obviously didn't come across to you but it did to Cat, so bad Zommael. I was being flippant. I know Soundwave is a popular character and anticipated release, but I don't personally care for the G1 or Masterpiece design that much (something TRU have made easier by not having a store in my area). I hope everyone who wants one gets one. My point was simply that not everyone wants one, even if they have heard of it. ;)

Why would you expect the Hasbro version to have headphones if the Takara version didn't? It's not as if you could use them. And for most collectors it would be a waste. I'd like to know too as he's who I'm after, coming out at a rather inopportune time financially for me though. :o

Just like with MP Soundwave, I've split up and generated two Acidstorm new topics as well, to help people find info related to one or the other (online or in-store availability & tips).
I've also temporarily given them topic icons to make them stand out while they are a focal point this week.
Acidstorm in stores (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=17263).
Acidstorm online (http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=17264).
