Who had Imperial Flagships? Myer? The Big one?

Sorry. I know what you mean now. Initially I misread it as Imperial Shuttle.
Can't stop thinking about it huh?

Yes. Between that and the new falcon... I'm a bit obsessed.

Not the Imperial Shuttle fool. The Falcon.

Same thing. Bogans beat you to whatever you wanted. Sad day.

Fool.

And against my better judgement I pciked up Tower Bridge. Not sure about it, uhmming and ahhing. Money not so much an issue, just space.

A few nice Lego offerings that I'm kind've interested in but unsure.

I picked it up at Doncaster yesterday. Didn't see one today but certainly didn't look for it.

I'll see it back to you for $400. :p

Alright. I just begrudgingly dropped $225 towards that stupid Imperial Shuttle (they're on the shelves here). Dumb, stupid, expensive shuttle.

Favorite Star Wars starfighter.

Is it the build that you like? Or is it the fiction? As to me, it just looks like a slice of pizza with a cockpit.

I like the design of the ship. It feels sleek and agaile.
It also feels like something of a middleground for the usual starfighter design in the series.
If you look at the X-wing, it looks practical but made out of junk. There are reasons for this. It is made out of spare parts by the rebels.
The other extreme is something like the Naboo Starfighter from epI. It looks elegant with all the curves and flowing shapes, but it's weak.
The Jedi starfigther has an elegant design while still looking practical.

Oh, and the build is pretty good too. Lots of interesting SNOT parts in it.

jaydisc
28th June 2011, 04:27 PM
I notice the new Imperial Shuttle seems to have a lot of SNOT too. Is this a new trend for Lego? Or something they've been doing and I just haven't noticed?

Lint

SNOTty building has been gaining in prevalence each year especially with the Star Wars and other themes where model aesthetic/accuracy is desired.

The engineering shift has been very gradual so I didn't really notice it either. I remember when I was a kid the SNOT parts were a great novelty and it was always cool when you had some. Nowadays they are the little annoying parts you inevitably get in those small packets that you have to use.

That Imperial Shuttle is possibly the SNOTtiest kit I've ever seen!

They have mainly been doing it on the much bigger sets for a while too

The UCS sets have had it since the beginning (http://www.brickset.com/browse/themes/default.aspx?theme=Star+Wars&subtheme=Ultimate+Collector+Series).

Didn't the UCS Falcon have it around the sides?

Just had to say that if you read this post, and didn't know what SNOT meant, you would being thinking this person really needs to blow their nose more often.

Well, I wouldn't consider the sides SNOT. The pegs face outward from the sides. So, while not "on top" per se, I don't think that's what SNOT means. I always interpreted it as meaning "studs not facing outward" or "studs not visible".

There is a small portion of SNOT work on the UCS falcon, but it's basically to create the round holes and detail on the top of the front of the shipt, as seen circled in this pic:

Whilst I have been in Melbourne (this time no exception) I have stocked up on Lego.
I have NO plans to open them until I move back and have a place to put them in (so realistically 4-5 years) but I did buy

Harbour
Marina
Lego Truck
Police Station
AT-AT Walker
5 x Ewok Sets
and another $200 or so dollars of lego item...

Like this time of year, sales are good!

Picked up Cars 8679 Tokyo International Circuit for the bargain price of just $97!! There is a promo going on at TRUs which has 20% off all Cars Lego. In their catalogue, the listed price is $127.99, which is 20% off the original price of $159.99. However, due to some error on TRU's part, this gets a further 20% off at the registers resulting in a $102 price, which adding the $5 off coupon, results in a a TRU exclusive set for under $100. Which is a good thing, because despite the awesomeness of the set, doesn't really deserve such a hefty price tag.

Because the videogame is just freaking awesomesauce, I found myself leaving the Target sale with both the large Hogwarts castle set and the Hogwarts Express set.

Had to force myself to not buy the Forbidden Forest and smaller Hogwarts sets.

Some fantastic pieces in the sets I bought, possibly the best is the chocolate frog figure in the train set!

I haven't had a chance to build it yet, so for now it seems quite "meh" just from the outside. And you're probably only paying to get the mini figs. Unless you can get extra bricks and pieces to build more trees, then you can literally have the Forbidden Forest. :p

Have you got 4738 Hagrid's Hut? That would be a much nicer set to get if you wanted to get it for Hagrid.

The Lego HP bug only bit me after I finished Lego HP on the Wii and PS3, so I skipped every other set that was released previously.

I figured it was a set released for the sole purpose of figure collecting/ making you pay $18 for a Malfoy figure to get the whole set.

I think I just want more of the tree's and mushrooms as you spend so much time destroying them in the game... :p

Before I became a TF Person (around about 11 or 12 years ago), I used to collect SW Lego. One day, for some moronic reason, I decided to sell off all of my Lego. Talk about dumb... :o

Anyway, About 4 or 5 months ago, I decided to get all of that Lego back. This is all I've acquired in that time...

I'd never thought of that. Could you go as far as getting all the pieces for a "no longer available" star wars set (Not including licensed minifigs). I mean that at-st set mentioned was a couple of years old (i think)

Depends if they still make the part. They may still have the mould in use or some spares laying around. I have never been asked if i had bought the sent new or used. I don't think they really care. The part would only really cost them a couple of cents to send out to you.

Whilst this is not a 'new' acquisition, mum announced a few months ago that she was sick of storing my stuff so told me to come and get it or she would bin it. So I went and had a look because I didn't particularly know what she was talking about.

Turns out I forgot I still owned these. I used to collect space lego when I was a kid, at my peak owned 152 sets. But as the all to common story goes, your mum decides one day that you have outgrown them and 'poof'... gone forever:mad: The walker belonged to my brother before he gave it to me, so its gotta be pushing 30 years old.

Behold, all that remains of my once MIGHTY lego collection...

If it is this one (http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=10215-1), I would buy it, even though I have one alright. The US price is about $100 anyway.

Although the price is tempting, considering it used to be $140 during it's first release and all it took was a year and a half.:p

Nabbed the daredevil, rock chick, hippie, nerd and aztec warrior.

The Aztec warrior has to be the easiest figure produced to feel in the bag, his headdress is very distinctive. Space Marine and Neptune were very difficult to feel out (thus why I didn't end up with either!)

Don't rely on the indents this time around, they are very difficult to see on the red plastic.

i found the evil knight easy to find (have 4).. the aztec and the space marine has large items in it.... and somehow i ended up with three tarzans

The Moria set is pretty good, I've been saving Helm's Deep to make once I have reports and such done as a reward before the hobbit sets are released.

I eventually caved and got the Weathertop set a month ago. It's a fun build, with a clever and very interesting design to make it appear spherical, but unless you can get it for $50-$60 I cannot really recommend it. It is too small for the higher prices unless you are a completionist.

Something about the Croc Boat reminds me of the Cobra moray Hydrofoil, I think it's the dual cockpits and opening hatch on the prow, dunno.

I'm not really a Lego collector but the Lego IP sets sure seem a lot better value than the licensed stuff, I love the idea of the LOTR and Hobbit Lego but most of them just looked like cool mini figures packaged with a boring set piece.

Picked up the small raven and Croc sets from the Chima range. Both were cheaper than the ripcord roller base sets that I think are meant to be the meat of the series.

The raven set is great value for money, the minifig does look like badbird, but I loved the playability of it, after the fun build. The croc cart sure is a strange thing to behold, but surprisingly menacing and interactive.

If the other sets are as good as these, I'll be getting a few more, the Croc boat is something I really like the look of, but the price is a bit much for now, hopefully it'll end up reduced like the larger ninjago sets... One can hope. :D

LotR Orc Forge arrived today. Not sure what shop it is an exclusive of here (TFR maybe?) but I got it off ebay for about $60 shipped, and I am not sure that it as worth it.

The light brick and minifigures are, as always very nice and cool, and the gimmick is fun, but there is not $60 worth of build in this set, it took me less than 45 minutes yo build as I took my time and laminated stuff or work as well. Its a little weak on the sides due to the small shaped base plates only being held on with a brick or two, so it feels rather flimsy, something I have not experienced with Lego for a long time.

The White hand of Saruman shields and helmets are awesome, they should have been included in the Helms Deep set as well.

If you see it for around $45, grab it, otherwise only if you need orcs!

I picked up the other vehicles (Eagle Flyer, Wolf Truck and the Lion tank). They were all great except for that lion tank. Way too skeletal and I regret it. I should have opted for the smaller lion vehicle. The others are ace though.

I also picked up that little red mech from Ninjago, really nice set and the Final Battle tread tricycle which was pretty nifty.

Also got series 9 minifigs. Zero doubles this time due to each minifig having some unique and easy to feel parts each.

So I made Craggers Ship (70006) today. It took me under one and a half hours, with lots of breaks, watching the cricket and taking my sweet time. For a box and set this large it should have taken far longer, something maybe closer to double that.

If you are not a fan of large pre constructed pieces, this is not a set for you. The main boat is (as I expected) one large pre finished piece. The two smaller croc boats are also premade. There are alot of larger pieces in the set, that while they look great, diminish the build enjoyment massively. On the flip side there are plenty of cool pieces in new colours, and the set is the nice olive green, rather than the brighter green it looks on the box.

As a build, this set is a fail, as a display piece it is okay (but the smaller bird sets are superior), but as a toy (especially for kids) this is FREAKING AWESOME!!! it has everything you need, good and bad characters, lots of different and awesome looking weapons, heaps of vehicles with plenty of play value. There is a jail part to capture the lions, flick missiles that flick okay and lots of story potential.

Minor annoyances:
- No storage for weapons when the characters are driving the vehicles.
- female Croc gets no weapon! (used a spare spear and red translucent axe head)
- gunship weapons are too low and will fire into the back of the pilot. Another full block raise will alleviate, I have to find suitable colours first.
- front pod (where the red windscreens are) is weakly held on to the boat frame.

Make no mistake that this is a brilliant set for kids, but loses lots of points as a display or build piece. However the crapload of teeth/claws will fall off often, even in careful play, and some parts are barely held on, so expect lots of rebuilds if the kids are a bit rougher on it. Certainly worth around $100, but not more, just does not have the finished feel of the Bird sets. Compared to owning 5/6 of the wheel sets, it is a bargain!

It's nice to get something when it first comes out. I used to wait for decent prices at places like B&N and Amazon but LEGO are really knuckling down on these retailers to stop export sales to Australia. :(

I figured as much.

I took advantage of Myer's 50% off a second toy deal.
Picked up 3 TNMT sets and a Star Wars Old Republic battle pack.

I picked up the 3 smaller TMNT sets, so I am still missing Leo. I was tempted to buy one of the bigger ones so I ended up with all 4 turtles but I am not a fan of the 2 bigger sets. I might just got one off BrickLink (or here if anyone ends up with a spare).

I've been good and not buying the Ferrari Lego from Shell service stations, but then caved and spent $50 on the T-Rex helix range lifter set on sale from big w. it was meant to be $60 on sale but I'm not complaining.

It's not the most detailed set and it was quick build, but it is ginormous. He box does not give an indication of just how big it will end up being. It is about the same length as the Chima croc boat, but heavier and less fragile.

An awesome set for the sale price, the Trex goes for anywhere between $30 and $40 on Lego sale sites, so to spend a little more and get a giant copter as well is worth it to me!

I actually bought it at the china square central sunday markets in Singapore. I don't think they were available in Australia at all. Theres room enough for the minifigures set but they wouldn't display very well on this stand.

That said, after a quick google, theres actually a way cooler stand for the ferrari cars out there which I would buy on the spot if I ever saw it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Shell-LEGO-Crossover-FERRARI-6-Car-Mini-Figure-Display-Stand-Completed-Set-/321072517645?pt=Building_Toys_US&hash=item4ac169d20d

- Monster Fighters Haunted House (Pending build)

Got the LotR Black gate and the TMNT Shredder Cycle from the Big W sale.

Shredder Cycle is awful, even worse than the Sewer Tumbler set. Only bought it as it was on sale, and to buy just the Donatello and Shredder figures I wanted would have cost about the same after shipping.

Black Gate, like all the newer sets looks very small; however, the box is very heavy. Cannot wait to build it, will have to look for a figureless set off ebay to get on the cheap to complete the gate properly.

Finally put together the hobbit hole "unexpected gathering" set over the last two days. Brilliant construction and interesting straight up build, unlike many of the LotRsets which have some clever sideways building.

While this is rather simplistic and certain thing could of been better it is a fun little build, i really wish Marty and Doc Brown were customisable aswell for the different movies, or different minifigs were included Future Marty with hoverboard, future doc with trench coat a wild west doc with cowboy hat and a poncho wearing Marty (clint Eastwood) with a frisbee pie tin accessory would of been aweesome

I can't believe what I've managed to find, nor can I wait for it all to arrive! :p

I quite liked Lego back in the day but never to the same degree as Transformers or Ninja Turtles, so the few Lego sets I used to have were quite cherished until the parts were all lost to the 4 corners of the abode that also housed 2 younger siblings.

So coupled with my recent dablings with "Alien Conquest" & "Monster Fighters" lines, along with quite a lull in my TF collecting of late - I decided to throw some money at some older sets and re-live a small part of my childhood. :D:cool:

The Radon Rover was probably my favourite set as a kid, I remember pulling it apart and rebuilding things with it countless times - Just pure awesome! :D:cool:
I do remember always looking at the catalogue & toy shelves at the time, yearning for something more - That feeling wasn't ever satiated, until last week when the yearning was finally quenched...

I absolutely love this guy, he's great for so many reasons; he can be autonomous or mecha, he's got a little storage compartment within the front of his pelvis, oh! and his articulation!
Though it may be dated now, his articulation in the arms and claws/graspers show that Lego was at least trying and that great things were to come. ;)

He's a really fun build too as you start with just this rather flat set of rolling stock/wheels, then all of a sudden he starts sprouting upward - BUT!
There was something else about Recon Robot, something that he suggested and that the catalogued proved...

...that there was another, and, IT was far bigger! :D - I'll have to reveal that at another time however. ;)

Cheers man, there's many more photos to come of the old sets I've procured to come but they'll have to wait until I've more time - in light of recent events. :o

I looked at that set you mentioned, that's classy old-school stuff there man  - I considered "Pick-A-Bricking" the parts I'd need in order to complete my Back-Hoe set... $2.57 was looking quite good for the parts until the $27 price-tag for postage was shown!:(

Paint apps are sharp and bright in colour eg iron mans armor is metallic colored, the legs are a little loose but for $3 a fig I dont mind

...in just before the end of the day! :D

This is one I direly wanted as a kid, the catalogues teased me and seeing him in store would always bring me to despair as he would stare down from the shelf, just out of reach both physically and fiscally. :o
On Tuesday he finally fell into my grasp... all the way from Germany! :D:cool:

:D - I'll have to reveal that at another time however. ;)

Yes I'm late to this thread. Deal with it :p

That's awesome Hursty! I had the entire Spyrius collection when I was a kid and only got rid of the big robot you're referring to about 10 years ago (Silly me) all I have left now is the base.

Anyway, as I just need a few quick answers and don't want to start a thread, where does one get decently priced lego these days? I am after the 60046 set for my niece as she likes it and it's $100 in stores here but have seen it on Amazon for $50, buuuut as you lot would already know I can't get it shipped here. So where is priced good?

Was going to say shopforme.com.au as they have some decent prices for lego sets at times but I just had a look and this set was sold out there. Still decent place for future consideration.

Think the lego sales in stores are hitting soon so $80 is not quite the Amazon price after shipping but not too bad.

Not exactly lego. picked up a few third party iron man minifigs and a deadpool. Before I get crucified for not buying legit ones, the armors I got lego havent made and to my knowledge they dont plan on making. And deadpool because I refuse to pay $20 for one minifig

I saw a bunch in HK. They actually look really good. Mark 5, Mark 39, all the good ones.

So. I love the Agents sets and these 3rd generation ones are impressive.

The highlight is definitely the Infearno's Interception set (70162) with the best vehicle ever designed by Lego. To top it off Infearno himself is the best looking villain. The truck s great but I give the edge to the original Agents Truck from 2010, but it's sturdy and has some excellent gimmicks.

The Hurricane Heist set is massive as you can see. I was very surprised. It may look awkward as a mech but think of it as a backpack.

The smallest kit is actually feature packed. Paws very surprised at what they did in such a small set.

The most disappointing is Toxikita's Heli set. The lab was ok but am not a fan of "facades" i'd rather something solid or whole like a vehicle. Might rebuild it into one. Toxikita is a disappointing minifig especially being a main villain. The Heli is ok but composed of large bits to make up for lack of parts.

Can't wait to see the next wave in 2015.

Nice! Thanks for the review Stompy. I'm also interested in these just for the parts. They're a nice blend of space and city themes. The Infearno could very well give the UCS Tumbler a run for it's money.

Got the three GotG sets a while back, finished making them while watching the Knights and Panthers finish the regular season brilliantly!

Sadly the Middle set is crudtacular, only worth it due to coming with Groot and Rocket, the big Milano set is bulky (too wide for kids to easily swoosh around, but looks alright, the build was nowhere near as interesting as I thought it would be. Only the small set was worth the price (and I got them from Amazon, so about 30% cheaper than AU RRP).

Very disappointing, as the only other lego sets that I have felt were as weak as these were most of the Hobbit sets (only Bag End, Finding the Ring, Mirkwood Army and maybe lake Town sets were decent, the Dol Guldur and Mirkwood spiders were pathetic).

Hoping that the Agents and second wave of movie sets can make up for the overall disappointment of the GotG sets.
