I asked the same question at my local post office a few weeks ago, and they said it was ok. Didn't have any issues. Might be an idea to try and call your local PO and ask them?

I send all my online purchase parcels to my PO Box. One of the US shipping services won't deliver to PO Boxes but AusPost has no issue. They just leave you a "missed collection" type card in the box and you have to go to the store's counter to pick it up.

Random thought: it seems that J.R.R. Tolkien may have viewed language hegemony - especially where a single dominant language replaces others (thus decimating linguistic diversity) as a bad thing. There are many different languages spoken across Middle Earth, with Tolkien himself constructing entire language families for his fantasy realm. However, among the servants of Mordor, Black Speech has come to dominate over the languages of those peoples, destroying their indigenous languages. e.g. by the Third Age, no Orc is able to speak any kind of Orkish. They speak either Westron (the lingua franca of Middle Earth which is represented by Modern English) or Black Speech (e.g. Azog the Defiler speaks exclusively in Black Speech, as do the Nazgûl (Ring Wraiths), and of course, the One Ring itself).
This contrasts with the other races on Middle Earth, where linguistic diversity and tolerance flourishes. e.g. we frequently see characters like Aragorn and the Elves speaking in Sindarin Elvish, or the humans from Rohan speaking Rohirrim (represented by Old English), Dwarves speaking in Dwarvish and even the Hobbits speak Hobbitish, a peculiar variation of Westron (e.g. Bilbo Baggins thanked all the Hobbits for coming to his "Eleventy-Oneth" (111th) birthday). So it seems that the heroic peoples of Middle Earth are openly tolerant of different languages, whereas the evil servants of Mordor have moved to smother their linguistic/cultural diversity and replace it all with the singular values and language of Mordor. Did Tolkien also intend this to be an allegoric criticism of hegemonic languages like English (and thus by extension, Anglophone cultures)?
One tongue to rule them all.
P.S.: It's worth noting that Azog only spoke Black Speech in Peter Jackson's film adaptation of the Hobbit; in the books he only ever spoke Westron. And he was dead long before the events of the Hobbit. And yes, I know that Legolas and Tauriel aren't meant to be in the Hobbit either (Tauriel is entirely an invention of Peter Jackson; of course, Jackson does prefer to have greater inclusion of females in his films, as he massively increased the role and appearance of Arwen in LotR (she's actually a rather obscure character in the books)).

Damn straight! Some of those politicians & business experts have no clue at all. I'm sure they would change their tune if THEY had to work them. As a matter of transparancy, I no longer get penalty rates for working public holidays as I'm now a manager where I work. Yeah, these are the same politicians who when VIC teachers argued that while taking industrial action they wouldn't do camps (since we do them out of a sense of doing right by kids - we get no extra pay whatsoever) said in return 'why not? You only work the same hours'. Like when on camps between 4.30pm and 8.30am the teachers could bugger off and not be legally responsible for the welfare of dozens of kids away from home

Heh... later this year I'm taking a group of students to Japan, and yeah, the cost of my trip is covered by the cost of the excursion. Some people have said that I'm lucky to score a "free" trip to Japan, but don't realise that it's not going to be a holiday for me because I'm going to be on duty 24 hours a day for 1.5 weeks. As your wife's rightly pointed out, that's a LOT of unpaid overtime! Normally our students bugger off at the end of the school day and we don't have to see them again until the next morning. Oh, and we're also on duty over the weekends too. I can't go and organise another TF fan meet like I did in my last week to Japan. At least, not one where we can go traipsing around collectable toy stores for an entire day and then hang out and just talk TFs the whole time. At most I might be able to organise for people to meet me maybe at a hotel foyer at night (not sure if I can do this, I still have to look into it). We even had one of our DPs criticise the fact that two teachers are going for 'free' and asked us if this was ethical. Okay, if they want us to pay our own way, fine. Then pay us the overtime! They'll find that it's cheaper to just pay for our expenses.
The other silly thing is that due to this DP's perception of "equity," she refused to allow another teacher to come with us, even though she volunteered to go and was willing to pay her own way. And the excursion is during the school holidays, so it wouldn't impact her classes or the school. The DP disallowed her from going because she thought it wouldn't be equitable, whereas in reality we would've had an extra teacher to help supervise at no additional expense to the students. This DP's allowed one teacher's aide to come along at her own expense because one of the students attending has special needs.
A few years ago another colleague took some of our students to France, Germany and Austria with additional teachers and even some parents, and there was no dramas (other than their coach breaking down outside Salzburg :p). But we had different DPs at the time who obviously didn't object to this. We've actually made the decision not to include parents in this excursion, but additional teachers would've been most welcome.
P.S.: We also don't get to see our own families during this time too.

Yes, they are... but I thought it was amusing, and bizarre that the two competing fighting arcade game movies from the 90s were both on the same night, on competing networks.
They are certainly not good enough to have one station noticing the other playing one and thinking that it would be a great idea to compete with the rival movie.
I mean... Kylie Minogue in an action movie along side Van Damme. And a supporting cast that looked like they were reading off cue cards to not be able to how to act in their scenes. That movie was completely cringe-worthy (not helped by Capcom's demands and the requirement to have one Australian actor by the Australian Actor's Guild). At least MK was watchable (not the sequel though).
It's sad to see that both movies made huge profits, SF earned almost 3 times what it cost (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_Fighter_%281994_film%29), while MK earned over 6 times what it cost (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mortal_Kombat_%28film%29).
Maybe SF inspired Michael Bay, to know how to make a profitable movie no matter how bad the script and acting is, as long as there are lots of explosions and fighting in it for the masses. :p
One good thing about MK though, is that it features the voice of Frank Welker as the Emperor (who sounds like Dr Claw), and Kevin Michael Richardson (the voice of TFPrime Bulkhead).

Some people have been openly critical of the new upcoming $5 note which has a more garish colour scheme but also includes more tactile markings which enables people to feel what kind of note it is without looking at it. I personally haven't cared either way, as long as it's legal tender it'll do its job.
But here's something I didn't know, and I think it's something that people ought to be aware of before they proceed with criticising the design of this note. It was designed by a blind Aussie kid (http://www.smh.com.au/comment/new-5-note-is-a-reminder-that-beauty-goes-beyond-aesthetics-20160413-go5au9.html). So next time you see/hear someone having a whinge about this note, feel free to remind them of their sighted privilege. How dare we become a more inclusive society! :p
P.S.: the garish colours would actually make it easier to see for some blind people too. Remember that there are different degrees of legal blindness. Some people are completely blind, while others are nearly completely blind. It is people in the latter group who rely on bright colours.

Rottnest Island is pretty cool, Freemantle was also an interesting place to visit. If you can get down to the wine region there is also the Margaret river chocolate company and a bunch of small breweries.
A couple hours north is the pinnacles desert, it's something else entirely.
most of these things require either renting a car or going on a tour.
we stayed in the middle of the city when we were there in early April, on Murray street there is a Belgian beer café/pub that does really good food and really good beer.

Maybe spoilers for the new Netflix Voltron cartoon
In the trailers, the team has a new character in the black outfit, not Sven, who's clearly older than the others and seemingly "in charge". Was jokingly thinking "hope nothing happens to him" but it got be thinking.
Never quite understood as a kid why Keith and Lance wore different coloured uniforms to their Lions. In the original anime was Sven the leader and Black Lion pilot until he died was badly injured at which point the other two rotated? I could imagine that might happen in the new show and wonder if that would actually be accurate to the original story?

Nope, Keith was always the team leader. Been ages since I've seen the show but in the first episode where they pilot the lions (think it was third episode in to the series...?) Keith actually flies the green lion due the black lions key being missing, plus Pidge was separated from the team at that point, but right from the outset Lance flies the red lion wearing the blue uniform and Sven flies the blue lion in the black uniform. There's no apparent reason why that was the case, if those two had of been the other way around then Keith/Sven would of been the only lion/colour clash but giving Lance the red lion just made it that extra bit confusing. There was at least one later episode where Lance ("correctly") flies the blue lion.
Plus, when Sven is (largely) written out of the show, the Princess takes over the blue lion wearing a pink uniform. And unless I'm colour blind, Hunk's uniform always looked more orange than yellow. Then much later when W.E.P. commissioned Toei to make more Voltron episodes after they'd run out of GoLion episodes to dub, for some reason in those episodes the green lion/Pidge's uniform is coloured in a shade of green that's so dark it almost looks black.
Ugh.

An email I sen to Telstra tonight:
It may surprise you to learn that the call you speak of below, scheduled for 6:30pm tonight, did not happen. I know, shocking right?!?! This is now the 4th time I have not received a scheduled call in relation to this issue. I will not direct my wrath toward you, for I know that you and your team are simply the poor sods faced with the sometimes insurmountable task of fronting the ire of the Australian social media monster and explaining the yet new level of incompetence your company has, despite all odds, managed to achieve. And believe me, the irony of Australia's largest phone service provider, navigating social media (in my experience so far) quite adequately yet be so inept as to not be able to arrange for a phone call to be made at a scheduled time, is not lost on me. But I suppose I could be jumping to conclusions, after all, while I was given a time of 6:30pm Tuesday, no time zone was specified.
After my complaint on your Facebook page Your staff replied with an apology and within an hour it appears that someone within your organization recalled the use of a touch tone phone and rang me to organize a 5th call for tomorrow night at 6:30pm.
Now, I must admit I am curious as to whether this streak can be maintained. On one hand, it would be supremely awesome to get this issue sorted. On the other hand, I find myself wondering if there is an official world record for non-returned phone calls and whether I've got a shot at it?
I thank you and your social media staff for the assistance and hope you pass my complaint on. I fully intend to lodge a complaint with the ombudsman. As Telstra's blatant lack of respect for its customers cannot go unreported.
Cheers,
Trent

Door greeters are really only there as a visual deterrent to the opportunistic thieves -the little teeny bopper that wants a $3 can of Impulse or the gamer that wants a new pack of batteries for their XBox controller.
The experienced ones will have 101 ways of concealing merchandise and attempting to walk out. If we are able to establish them early enough, undercover loss prevention officers & security staff are notified at which point apprehension will occur outside of the store.

Stores cannot legally enforce bag checks for customers leaving the store.
Reference (http://www.findlaw.com.au/articles/4767/do-stores-have-the-right-to-search-your-bag-.aspx)
"When a bag search is conducted no items are allowed to be touched with the retailer only able to look at the contents inside the bag. Customers do have the right to refuse to have their bag searched, but since a customer enters a store under licence, the retailer also has the right to ask a person to leave, therefore revoking the licence (under which the customer entered the store)."
So here's how I understand it; if you enter a store where there are prominent signs saying that customers may be subject to bag checks, you can refuse to comply with the bag check and, unless the store has good reason to believe that you've shoplifted, the worst that they can do is tell you to leave. If you're already exiting the store, which is when bag checks occur, then it's a fairly empty threat. I'm not encouraging anyone to abuse this, but just pointing out some legal facts.
One reason why I carry my Transformer toy in my hand when I go out instead of carrying it in my bag or pocket is to make it visibly clear that I've already entered the store with the toy, then I show the toy on my way out and the checker can know that I didn't steal it from the store. If the checker is busy as I enter, I hold it in a position that can be easily seen by security cameras - should security feel the need to review video (it's never come up though).

I think Southland was the initial trial store - staff there HATED it at first, buts it's been that way for 2-3 years now
They've merged the audiovisual/photo printing section with the service desk and layby too, which can be a pain when I want something from the DVD cabinet and have to wait for someone collecting a layby or an idiot to be told why they can't get a refund, back when I worked there they were three separate desks in different locations across the store
Edit: used to work the door too, funniest moment was a biker trying to walk out with a fridge...

Castle Towers Kmart is the only one that I've noticed that hasn't changed their layout yet. Hornsby has recently done it, but it doesn't work well since it's a long store and not a wide store.
Also on the bag checking thing, it's kinda funny because when I show them my bag, they only see the top of it. I could have a stolen transformer in the bottom of it and they wouldn't even notice.
Some places do have better security, the worse case was Target Hornsby where I had to sit for a bunch of minutes because the person out front thought I had stolen a Transformer, despite the fact I had purchased it from somewhere else (and that also Target wasn't even stocking that type of Transformer!). I had to wait a bunch of minutes till they learnt I didn't steal it.
This is why I should always have a receipt for when I'm buying toys.

You know all this crap about the Gorilla being shot. How come when a school is shot up people aren't like this?
To be fair, those are two completely different scenarios. Despite what protesters are saying, shooting that gorilla wasn't murder, because murder requires malice aforethought. The zookeeper didn't wake up that morning thinking, "Yep. I'm gonna kill a gorilla today, and here's how I'm gonna do it." There was a child in a gorilla compound, and the gorilla could:
a/ Leave the child alone or maybe even look after him, or...
b/ Kill the child, because an adult gorilla has enough strength to rip the arms off a grown man. That's right, Wookiee strength.
...and the zookeeper doesn't have the luxury of time to consider his options. He has to make an immediate decision. Wild animal expert Jack Hanna has even come out in support of the zoo's decision (http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/nation-now/2016/05/31/jack-hanna-zookeeper-knoxville-cincinnati-zoo-gorilla-killed/85181272/). Honestly, it's one of those "damned if you do, damned if you don't" moments for the zoo. If they didn't shoot the gorilla and the infant is hurt or killed, then the zoo would be condemned for endangering or losing a human life. If they shoot the gorilla, then they're condemned for taking a gorilla life. Either decision sucks, they just had to quickly take what they considered to be the "less sucky" option (i.e. preserving the life of a human child over a gorilla's). You can be sure that the zoo took no pleasure in shooting that gorilla, and the guy who pulled the trigger may need counselling.
A school shooter is nothing more than a cold blooded killer. There is absolutely malicious intent. He would've been planning on the shooting for quite some time and planned it. Purchasing the gun(s) and ammunition, plotting where he would start and his movements, selecting targets and gunning people down. And for what reason? The zookeepers shot the gorilla to save a child, the school shooter isn't saving anyone... he's just murdering people for the sake of killing people. The school shooter wants to shoot people... the zookeepers never wanted the gorilla to die, but they felt that they had little other alternative. A tranquiliser would take 5-10 minutes to take effect and the instant pain from the tranq would enrage the beast. As smart as primates are, we must remember that even those born and raised in captivity are wild animals. These aren't domesticated pets, and there's a reason why even owning one as a pet is illegal in most parts of the world.

I hope that's just a coincidence... but if the book is the only way to get this figure, it is fishy for someone in Australia to have three on their own (why would you need three books, or split them up)... and being within 30 minutes of this store, selling the same number of figures as the ones missing is suspicious.

Am I the only one who thinks it's kinda pathetic when YouTube videos ask viewers to like and subscribe? To me it feels like say telling a joke and then asking your audience to please applaud and laugh. If your joke is genuinely funny, people will applaud and laugh without prompting, and similarly if your video/channel is really that good then people will click like or subscribe without needing to be prompted. Honestly. Although I've never subscribed to a channel, because if I like a channel enough I'll regularly check up on it myself. Imagine if someone posted a status or thought on Facebook and asked people to click Like and follow them.
And really, unless I really genuinely like a video, the more a video asks me to click like on it the more I really don't want to. Are people that desperate to seek approval from strangers on the internet?
If you liked this post, don't forget to Quote it and type "+1 QFT" in your reply! :p :p
Tober
17th November 2016, 11:26 PM
Whilst I do agree to an extent, hitting like and subscribe helps them with their channel with two mouse clicks, compared to the several hours it usually takes to make a decent YouTube video. It's basically the way I thank and compliment someone on their effort, seeing as I have ads disabled. :o
GoktimusPrime
17th November 2016, 11:50 PM
I've spent untold hours making YouTube videos. This video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvptaJylSV8) took me days to make and this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vYCqNbzRjg) took me a solid week of non-stop photographing and editing from morning to night. But I don't expect likes or subscriptions... I'll let my audience decide if they want to click like or hit subscribe, I'm not going to ask for it. If people genuinely like your content then they'll hit Like without needing to be prompted. If you're not getting as many Likes then perhaps you need to reconsider ways of improving your content. Or wonder why the approval of strangers on the internet matters so much to you. :p
And I utterly refuse to hit Like on any video where the content isn't their own original creation, especially if they've taken it from another creator. It irritates me when I see YouTubers fishing for Likes and subscriptions when they've pretty much plagiarised content. And as I've often said, I almost never click on video toy reviews, but I'll almost always read a text review. :)
Just my 2c :o

Most times I don't hit the like button. But I have a few subscriptions to channels, such as FailArmy, because it's easier to find their new videos that way. On my PS4, all I have to do is go to mys subscriptions and there it is.
Also, afaik, youtubers do get paid more for more subscribers
Trent
18th November 2016, 07:02 AM
Subscriptions and likes are how their revenue/income is generated. So while yes, on one level I agree with you Gok, on another level, if you are regularly enjoying a particular Youtuber's videos, a like and/or subscribe helps support them to bring you more content.
Borgeman
18th November 2016, 08:14 AM
Am I the only one who thinks it's kinda pathetic when YouTube videos ask viewers to like and subscribe?
Nothing wrong with self promoting, though there are good and bad ways of presenting it. A couple of my subscriptions say it as "if you liked this vid chuck us a like" or "if you wanna see more hit subscribe". I think that's much better than begging or demanding.
Plus many people need aural cues to make a decision anyway - for eg someone might watch dozens of someone's older vids and likes them enough to subscribe, but their brain doesn't process that thought into an instruction, and without hearing the word subscribe, they just don't press the button.
I know I've done that before - I've even gone to someone's page to watch more vids, and still not subscribed when I'm clearly going to watch more.
It's no different to any other form of advertising, if no one liked it, no youtuber would do it.

At the same time a computer screen in that area suddenly turned on, like it would when you move the mouse to wake it up. I went over and sure enough nobody there. Didn't hear any sound, just saw something move some movement. Nowhere someone might have hidden. Walked around the whole floor. No one around. Completely spooked myself out. Still getting a bit of a chill thinking about it.
Not helping myself to remember that my office building is on on the site of a former hotel.

I get that Johnny Depp is the face of a multi-billion dollar movie franchise, but it's amazing how much he can get away with, and how far people are willing to bend over to accommodate him.
I might be in the minority here, but I think Jack Sparrow is a bit of a tired joke, and it wouldn't be a huge loss if they killed off the character and replaced him. It's not called "The Jack Sparrow show". Sure, some people might scream and cry like they did in 1986 when Optimus Prime died, but Optimus Prime was a respectable role-model, whereas Sparrow is just a crook with too much plot armour.

I agree... how could the father not know or be suspicious about his son's massive wealth. He must have known something or else he wouldn't have been arrested as well, along with his daughter too - it's like the whole family was in on it.
Most of that $185 million of tax-payer money will never be recovered either.
That's a huge amount to go missing without being noticed until now.
That massive figure is the sort of money that State and Federal Governments here would be salivating over just to fund services or buy votes (most election projects politicians announce that benefit thousands are $100 million or less)... and a small number of people were using it to buy up 18 properties, 25 cars, 2 planes, and many millions more just lying around in cash.

He has been charged, not arrested, as a result of abusing his position of public office. The abuse being that he allegedly approached two senior ATO officers that were conducting the audit and tried to effectively broker a deal to stop the investigation. Those 2 ato officers have also been stood down (presumably for failing to report his approach to them).

It also speaks volumes about Cranston's skills are a parent (or lack thereof) to have raised a son like that. He must be proud.

I don't think that is a fair comment. I am sure there are some very decent parents who have had their kids turn out to be monsters. You can't always blame the parents.
As we do not know what he was like as a parent, I think it unfair to assume he was a bad parent because his 30 year old son turns out to be a fraudster. For all we know, he may have been completely legitimate until the temptation dealing with all that money became too much.

Hmm, that feeling when you know there's a toy somewhere in the cupboard that you want to get to but can't be arsed moving everything around to get to it...
Funny you should mention that.
I've got an EP.3 Black series Obi Wan figure.
It's in a box somewhere.
I don't know if this figure is in it's original release package variant or the second release version -either way, I'd have to hunt 1 more of the 2 versions down.
It''s a case of the CBF's if there ever was one.

I was really surprised to hear that his Batman show was only produced for 2 years, way back in 1966 to 1968... a bit like the original Star Trek TV show produced at the same time - a really short run, but an ongoing legacy to this day.
The Australian Border Security show often has subtitles for those with limited English or a strong accent... so it was amusing to see the Canadian Border Security episode tonight have subtitles for an Australian who had been stopped for several suspicious things (bringing with him weapons, drug material and tagging paint pens). It probably didn't sound like it was necessary to us, but the producers of the show thought it was necessary for their Canadian viewers.
It reminded me of some times in America, when I've had to repeat myself because my accent was probably a little too much for some of the areas of the country that have really strong accents of their own.

No offence, but you are very softly spoken. :o I sometimes find myself asking you to repeat yourself simply because I didn't hear you properly the first time around, and I know that sometimes you get frustrated and go, "Tsk, never mind..." as if I'm not being attentive, but uh... it's cos I can't hear you sometimes. :o

Super Random Thought:
Money in itself is inherently worthless. The value in money lies in what it represents - and in contemporary society, currency is backed by the value of its issuing country's economy. Money was invented because it's more effective than bartering. A shoemaker can't barter with other people who aren't in need of shoes, and a farmer can't barter when his crops aren't ready for harvest etc. Initially things of inherent worth were used as currency (e.g. precious things), but this became problematic when people started making huge purchases. Paying for land is impractical if you have to transport wagon-loads of silver or gold etc., then there's the problem of security. The Chinese were the first to invent paper money - the idea of a central authority securing precious assets and then essentially printing out notes that people could use at a later point in time to redeem those assets. But then people figured out that the assets never needed to be redeemed as people could literally trade in these government-issued "I owe you" notes. This idea transmitted along the Silk Road to Italy who then adopted it and it spread through Europe. The Europeans introduced the idea of banking, allowing assets to be deposited or withdrawn from branches rather than just a central location. But this still had problems in terms of the physical distance between branches and also trading between different banks. Today we can lose money when we exchange currencies from different countries, but back then people could lose money from exchanging currencies between different banks at the next town! :o :( And if a bank collapsed then that bank's currency would become utterly worthless. I think it was either the English and/or the Dutch ( not sure ) who introduced the idea of centralised government banking. Governments are far more secure and far less likely to collapse than banks, especially currencies from stronger economies - which is why these countries' currencies are worth more than those from weaker economies. Hypothetically speaking, if the Australian economy collapsed tomorrow, the AUD would become worthless. But precious things like gold and silver etc. would still be worth something because they have inherent value. Money doesn't. It's the purchasing power of money that makes it valuable.

But precious things like gold and diamonds, don't really have any value either, only the perceived value that people apply to them.

Gold is common in space, particularly asteroids. If we start mining them cost effectively, gold has the potential to be as common as sand and probably as valuable.

This episode of Silver Surfer TAS (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjRdH1xoSnA) from 1998 did a pretty good job of predicting social media and online gaming addiction.
Sometimes when real-life gets too hard and/or boring; it's just easier to create an online persona, and escape into a fantasy world where you're perceived as more powerful and interesting than you actually are in real-life. Imagine what would happen to some of these people if the internet one day disappeared.

I kept on wandering in and out of the house looking for where the source of this sound was coming from. Funny how a name like Marvel attracts ground naming rights but going from memory of years past a name like Crazy Johns gets rejects by several stadiums across Australia.
