Submitted via their online customer feedback form:

Dear Myer,

One June 24th, I purchased two toys from you. They were priced at $24.95 and are referred to as Transformers Deluxe Class Action Figures. In the past few months, you have raised the price of these figures to $39.99. This is very surprising as the RRP from Hasbro (the manufacturer) has always been known to be $29.99.

Before Transformer Animated figures were available, there were Transformers Movie figures. These also came in different sizes/price points. You used to formally sell Transformer Movie Voyager Class figures for $49.95, the RRP. Two days ago, I noticed that you have since raised this price recently to $59.99. This is over 150% the price of these figures at your cheapest competitor, Big W ($39.83), and over 125% the price of your more common competitors, Kmart and Target (45.99-46.99).

Initially, I, and other customers, assumed this pricing change was in error, or only effective at certain, more regional locations. However, this now seems to be the price everywhere. In the past, you have seemingly always priced these toys AT the recommended retail price (which was always slightly higher than your competitors). Why have you now raised the prices 20-25% ABOVE recommended retail and your closest competitor?

I have always enjoyed the shopping experience, reputation, brand and reliability of Myer and am willing to pay more for this. However, I cannot accept the premium that you are now placing on this. I hope you will re-consider.

Sincerely,

Jay

(no, seriously, someone needed to point out the ridiculousness of their pricing)

Your comments are absolutely valid of course, but I hope they don't start paying so much attention that they stop making the *good* mistakes... like Leader Ultra Magnus recently, and the cheap Classic Voyagers a few months back!

I hope you get a reply :) *wishful thinking*

Even though you've worded it well, I can easily see the Myer Customer Service person saying to themselves "Delete!" (I'm pretty sure that happens alot...)

No, even David Jones is going "damn that's expensive"

I hope you get a reply. I'm curious to the reason for such prices. There has to be a reason.

If you don't get a reply in a reasonable amount of time, just get the rest of us to submit it to their customer feedback (you'd just need to give us instructions to make sure we don't stuff it up). That way they'd have to look into it if they get several dozen submissions of the same problem.

If Myer responds at all, it'll be with some garbage that it is somebody else's fault.

I wonder if they are having their normal prices so high so that come the Chrsitmas period when they put these figures in their "sales" they can put them down to RRP and still say "save $10" and such?

Golden Phoenix was just telling us that he saw 2 Animated Blackarchnias at Myer the other time. One has a $24.9x tag while other has the absurd $29.9x tag.. this is totally crazy. I wonder if the barcodes the same....

The $24.95 Blackarachnia would be leftover stock from the earlier stock this year that was priced that way. The newer one would be from the more recent restocks.

i understand that concept...what i meant was.why didn't they change that price tag too but left it there at that price...which proofs that they have jacked up the price without any reasons

Myer responding and placing the blame elsewhere is unlikely. The letter is pointing out that they're basically pricing themselves out of the market. I'll be surprised if they respond at all, since the only _worthwhile_ response is to drop their prices.

If the buyer is actually unaware of the absurdity of the prices, they may well lower prices. Otherwise, they'll pretty much ignore jaydisc and continue to gouge the lesser informed.
