RRP confirmed at 23,000 yen, list price at 16,100 yen.
Which is about the same as PC's preoder price - both are offering pretty competitive early bird prices IMO (which is great news for fans as we continued to be spoiled for choice). :D Although PC's free shipping (as well as circumvention of international Customs*) are added bonuses.

I was thinking if you asked a TT employee to defend the MSRP on Meg's they would probably say the figure + UNCLE accessories add up to a MP10 price tag, then add on the faces, chest plate and the Key to Vector Sigma and you get the MP36 MSRP.
On Reddit more than a few people were complaining about the price.
The way I see it, you're paying for the engineering - it clearly has a complex transformation, looking at all the seams and hinges, in order to go from a proportioned (but not totally accurate) Walther P38 to an articulated, screen-accurate robot. That also means it has a very high part count.

Yeah, the free shipping, not having to deal with import red tape plus energon points and likely Asia Edition bonus are definitely big pluses for PC!
We are certainly very spoiled for choice! Good time to be a collector!

Hahah, peace through tyranny and lack of kink-shaming?
Almost preordered from PC in the event that I start collecting MPs again, then realised that if I was to go down that path I'd be spending between 8-10k playing catchup and aaaaaaaa I really can't justify it.
Lovely toy tho.

If we are going to talk about engineering then mp-10 is pretty straight forward and should be even cheaper.
Looking at a third party Willis for example and can incorporate paint and metal with a great price at $120. Says a lot different.
Furthermore mp Magnus is bigger and has quite a bit of engineering and is priced significant lower.
I just want to see it on hand whether is worth $240 at all.

I don't plan on buying this one.
I couldn't comment on third-party product and whether it represents 'value for money'; it doesn't interest me and I won't buy it.
My point is that judging by all the hinges and seams, it appears to have a very complex transformation and will likely have a high part count, especially in something that's a little over half the size of MP Ultra Magnus. That complexity is what you're paying for.

Agree. Although I am getting it, it does look quite messy/complex with what looks to be lots of small pieces around the shoulder area especially. There WILL be issues with this. I guarantee it.

Hinges or not I believe this is just more of a this is Megatron you will buy it price tag more than engineering justification. As you have not touched third parties you might not been familiar with the high quality material other brands had been using. Not even going persuade anyone to look as I will let you figure out on your own.
Not bashing this toy either, just felt it was a bit way overpriced for plastic. Especially if they are going not painted look in this one if that's the case.

yet all off them are released at different time where inflation would vary as would global currency rate.
All biz exist to make profit and if there is a demand and people will pay the price, they will charge it. only on rare occasions you'll find a biz purposely charging way below rrp and purposely have a lower profit margin, it's plain silly.
Remember end of day no one 'really' needs to buy anything since these are all simply optional wants :-)

Mp Tracks was way too many hinges and had road rage and the Tokyo black
Yet the price was pretty steep. Now it's at ridiculous 3,000 jpy and still heaps.
You have shockwave with one off atm ad so is starsaber but priced pretty much less.

Really friendly to deal with, and I only had to put down a $20 deposit. My brother will pick up and hold for me until I next come over with a B709 permit.

I ordered from PC. Slight hiccup as it seems people were trying to add eg.50 items to the cart to guess how much was remaining but this meant it temporarily took all 50 items out of stock so it was showing out of stock for other people ordering at the same time.

wasn't the Takara asking price for MP-10 about $250. compared to that, this isn't too bad.
I agree with you that it looks like there is a massive parts count here, especially looking at the back of the bot mode. I also think there is a certain amount of 'it's megatron people will pay whatever we want them to', like Shockwave, it's also going to have limited repaints.
It's an interesting observation about the parts count and apparent number of small parts. It will increase the cost of manufacture but I wonder how many people are going to be cranky at this toy when they actually get it in hand, for being too complicated and fiddley.
This might be the first masterpiece in a while that has had less complaining prior to release and more complaining post release.
I am really looking forward to it, I can't see how they get from one mode to the other without it being complicated when the shapes are so different. I'm one of the apparent few who doesn't have a problem with the MP-05 megs, especially when you take into account that it was designed in 12 hours.

Amiami is playing sneaky by stating list price above 23,000 so when they bs with the 30% it's not actually 30% of rrp.
Yes I know is rrp anyone can set higher. Just saying what I observe.

Mainline items do linger around a lot longer these days, so it seems like they're getting in a lot more stock than previously. For example, Primal, Inferno, Cheetor and Grapple were up for a couple months before they sold out.
Of course, the TTMall/Asia Exclusive items still sell out the night they go up, so nothing's changed there.

I'm surprised after almost a week PC still hasn't sold out.
Maybe because some people are buying a Gunformer for the first time and are currently still going through the arduous process of obtaining permits. It does take time. I did my application when I was on holiday and even then ensuring that I was ticking every box and jumping through all the hoops was very time consuming. It's a hassle, but thankfully just a one of hassle (for NSW residents anyway) as once you get the permit you don't have to go through the whole rigmarole again. You just gotta fill out a renewal form every couple of years.
So why does it "need" to go by road delivery, I'm quite curious, I'm not worried about the speed but why the "need"?

It's seems to benefits no one and a redundant choice at that
since from a sellers point they have zero liability once it leaves warehouse so doesn't really matter how they ship it.
From a buyer perspective if they have all the required ownership permit then it doesn't really matter how it is coming since your legally allowed to own and domestically purchase such items.
Seems more like a choice to save $ on domestic delivery.

The problem with the new Megatron is that he's created with Takara's new shift to toon accurate MP's. As such he looks a little off with Optimus which was made years ago and is a sort of an amalgamation of toon/toy/realistic truck aesthetic.
This is probably why a lot of people really like Despotron as he fits better with prime and people seem to really like roided out Transformers for some reason. Personally I'm happy with how Megatron looks and Takara's new focus as I grew up watching the cartoon and remembered being disappointed how the toys only resembled their onscreen counterparts.
I'm loath to admit we need a new Optimus as he's been done so much but he does look very dated compared to Megatron.

MP10 was the new more cartoon-accurate MP Optimus Prime toy. It significantly looks a lot more like the cartoon model than MP1 with features such as:
* Concealed leg wheels
* Show-accurate helmet design
* More squarish fuel tanks
* Body proportions look more like the show
* Arms are more show-like with silver strip removed and replaced with 'toon-accurate red mid-arm sections
* Broader feet
* More show-accurate looking rifle complete with IDW-accurate stowage gimmick

Although I still personally consider MP1 to be a better action figure than MP10, MP10 is definitely the more show-accurate looking of the pair. Is MP10 100% show accurate? No. There were clearly creative additions added just to make the toy look less bland than it otherwise would if it were slavishly show-accurate. Adding interchangeable parts would've added to the cost of what was already a very expensive toy. And I don't know about the rest of you, but I find the more toy-accurate parts on MP Inferno to look a lot better than the show-accurate parts. And in all honesty, no MP is 100% show accurate. And if you look closely at MP36 and compare it with the G1 show model, MP36 also similarly adds extra 'embellishments' which aren't on the cartoon model (e.g. crotch detailing, grill lines on those little trapeziums on the top of the chest, additional detailing on stomach, lines on hip plates (likely to be from pistol mode's grip) etc.). Take MP Wheeljack for example. He's a lot more detailed than the cartoon model because that toy carries over lots of detail from the licensed vehicle mode. And the same could be said about a lot of the MP Cars. IMHO these toys wouldn't look as nice if they were over-slavishly show accurate. When images of MP Inferno first surfaced, some people complained that it looks too plain, especially with the show-like bits added on. Yeah, it does. And that's what happens when you make a toy so show accurate! It's known that Toei's Kohara Shouhei drew the preliminary designs for G1, but it was Sunbow's Floro Dery who went and simplified those designs and thus it was Dery's designs that were used for the show. Comparison between Kohara and Dery's designs for Sideswipe (http://tfwiki.net/mediawiki/images2/4/4b/Deryizedsideswipe.jpg). Look at the way that the wheels on Dery Sideswipe's legs are only half visible. Doesn't look nearly as nice as the fully visible wheels on Kohara Sideswipe.
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y227/goktimusprime/Transformers/Masterpiece%20Wheeljack/mp_wheeljack12_zpsbaa66263.jpg
MP Wheeljack: gorgeously not too show-accurate
As for the Seekers, the MP11 mould was already retooled making it more show-accurate than the MP3 mould. Creating third versions of MP Convoy and Starscream would be expensive and I'm not sure if it's commercially viable. How many people who own previous versions of these MP characters would buy them again simply due to cosmetic differences? I personally wouldn't, but maybe that's just me. Sounds like it's time for a poll! (http://otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?p=543006#post543006). ;) :D

As you can see his spotlights are not painted which is pretty bad for a TT version. I don't see why TT has not bothered fixing these minor things and perfecting it to a version 3 where people will buy it and they make money.

Good point on MP-10. I suppose it may be possible to engineer some interchangeable battle-damaged parts, like the chest, a face and maybe the left torso injury, to complement what's on Megatron, but as you indicated, it may not be worth the expense of re-engineering and re-releasing the figure considering the mould has been released a few times now.
Given the current trend towards screen-accuracy, if and when TakaraTOMY make MP Jazz, I hope they reproduce the original car's Martini Racing livery instead of making a simplified, screen-accurate version. That can be saved for the MP+ version. On that topic, I suspect that Wheeljack will eventually get the + treatment, since the colour scheme of his animation model was substantially different to the Alitalia livery the toy had.

Yes MP10 is the most show accurate Prime released thus far but when Takara did MP22 Ultra Magnus and onward they seemed to do a shift to as much toon accuracy as possible with some people not liking the shift.
The MP10 Optimus does lack a few details like the grey coloring on his thighs and sides of his chest instead of white and unpainted horns on top of his chest. (Strangely Hasbro did this) even though I think only the movie showed primes horns colored. He also has the white band on truck mode which isn't present in the cartoon at all. They didn't collapse the wheels into his leg I remember reading there was a reason why they didn't do it can't remember it though.
If MP10 were to be released right now with Takara's current shift he would be much more toon accurate. Megatron's has a lot of detailing to the toon like the inner legs and his crotch front is actually toon accurate if you disregard the zig zag which is there so the panel can move (transformation probably) but the small squares on it are toon accurate. The top is his chest was probably unavoidable needing to put panels and moving parts somewhere it's better then non accurate kibble.
The MP cars were mostly designed before Takara's toon accuracy shift and they look better for it. Probably since they are based off real cars and the cartoon stripped a lot of detail. Which is why Wheeljack looks so different if they did him toon accurate his alt mode would be quite bland.

Sometimes I feel paint exists to be damaged. Currently my Prowl's front wheel tread is scraping away at the black paint behind his shoulders.
At the same time great scything windows do their best to scar Ratchet's roof every time he transforms. Oddly Ironhide doesn't suffer this. I think the windows are afraid.
Paint seems to be one of those things you need to be strategic about. Paint adds consistency to a surface. If you can get consistency without it that is probably a good thing. When I look at Wheeljack there are so many places where scratching would be so easily done I can understand why he lacks paint.

Is a masterpiece for crying out loud, not a damn action figure hence people collect it as a show piece. Wheeljack sudden no paint come out as odd finish rather than help in this case . Whereas Magnus is done uniformed. Wheeljack is done halfway making it odd in this case where his roof is painted white but the bare white plastic is enough to show oddness rather than safe the bot from scratching.
Time to time, when I take binaltech smokescreen and compare to wheeljack, you can see that a real masterpiece is more leaning towards the binaltech one. Sure my smokescreen had scratching but it feels properly done after like what? 10 years? All paint is still presented nicely overall.
Looking at my new red alert plus it looks well painted, no issues on scratch paint. Perhaps TT should just make a budget downgrade line where people are just wanting rough playing and not caring about show casing. Any much cheaper looking I guess I am better just becoming a misb collector where the box looks better than what is inside?
I am expecting Megatron to be like shockwave zero paint finish. I be very surprised if they paint the grey.
This is why I appreciate what third party is doing, dumping the cheap looking and putting premium.
Swirl plastic like starscream is horrid let alone my mp-10 has them on red.
I was told paint on plastic is no different with paint on metal. I now fully disagree that theory as I find there is a difference especially how it appears.
I be amazed if TT has decided not to show gun mode on their box for Megatron .

Another thing to consider is that a whole new MP Megatron was probably made because there doesn't yet exist one which is on the new MP scale, and the new MP scale is based off MP10. Obviously with each subsequent MP figure TakaraTOMY looks at how they can make each toy better than the last, and they've learnt and developed clever tricks to better hide/conceal parts etc. I think that it's unreasonable to judge a toy based on merits of toys that were created after it. And I don't know if it's necessary to "reboot" an MP character each time new innovations are made, because then wouldn't we be expecting TakaraTOMY to be forever pumping out new MP Convoys, Megatrons etc. rather than focusing on releasing MPs of G1 characters who have yet to have any? (e.g. Meister, Hound, Sunstreaker, Trailbreaker, Hoist, Cliffjumper, Brawn, Huffer, Gears, Windcharger, Skids, Skyfire etc.?)
They didn't collapse the wheels into his leg I remember reading there was a reason why they didn't do it can't remember it though.
Budget could be one. Megatron isn't a play set like MP10. In the absence of including things like a trailer/Combat Deck and Roller car, they were able to pour more money into the actual figure itself. Creating a new MP Convoy at a similar level may either require TakaraTOMY to sacrifice the trailer and Roller (as they initially did w/ MP1) or significantly jack the price up to the point where Convoy may cost around $300. Look at how many people are already whinging about MP36's RRP, and heck, even MP10's RRP was pretty steep (both MP10 and MP36 have about the same RRP). How many of us paid full RRP or more for either MP10 or MP36? Or did/are we find ways of obtaining these toys at under RRP (e.g. early pre-order, getting the cheaper Hasbro version etc.)?

They aren't already? How many Convoy repaints have they released already?
like I said in the other thread you made, I think there will always be a version of Optimus/Convoy, Starscream etc readily available to people for new fans who only just started collecting MP's, and Optimus, Starscream etc are like the gateway characters to MP collecting.
So I'm pretty sure Taktom will be re-releasing or remaking Optimus till the line ends, on the upside though, re-releasing Optimus, Starscream and Soundwave recently suggests they have no plans to re-make them in the immediate future.

I feel like show-accuracy is a word irrelevant now. Sure MP10 is the most show accurate Optimus Prime we've had, but if I put it next to say Shockwave or Ironhide, they look aesthetically different. The biggest difference if you ask me? Plain surface vs detailed surface.
Before Kobayashi took over, Hasui would fill all the big robot surface areas with mechanical details. Prime's waist, Datsun brother's shoulders and Bumblebee's forearms are but a few examples. Now you look at Shockwave, Ironhide and Inferno, with huge thigh/leg/forearm areas with minimum detailing, which is to re-create the minimalist approach to drawing the characters in the cartoon.
I reserve the word "dated" to describe the Hasui era figures, as many people pointed out engineering wise there's arguably very little that can be improved on. It's just that they don't fit in with the Kobayashi figures that well.

I suspect that it'd be the one switch that cycles through the sounds (similar to say Generations Metroplex etc.) rather than separate buttons per sound. The speech sounds will probably be meaningless to non-Japanese speakers but obviously Hasbro will never be able to release this toy in Anglophone markets with Frank Welker's voice.
Perhaps a Third Party company will release a compatible alternate sound chip w/ English language voices. It'd be cool if they could get Frank Welker to do the voices, but I imagine that that'd be too difficult (legal issues not withstanding) - they might have to get a good impersonator. Like DrSmoov. ;)
The line in the caption (この愚か者め!) means, "You fools!" and is actually one of the lines on reissue Galvatron. Although the Japanese voice actor for G1 Megatron/Galvatron (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seiz%C5%8D_Kat%C5%8D) passed away two years ago, so I wonder if the voices on this chip are archived audio files or if they got a new voice actor to record them.

On one hand I'm not a huge fan of sound gimmicks as aside from adding to the overall cost of a toy it also adds an immovable block which can impede with a toy's design/engineering (as the toy is built around this sound block). But on the other hand, looking at photos of MP36 the engineering doesn't seem to have been adversely affected by this gimmick (so it appears to be rather unobtrusive). I suspect that it's been placed on a part of a toy that was always going to be a block, like maybe inside the scope/fusion cannon.

Is Megatron meant to be silver, grey, or white? I'm tempted to say light grey; then again, metallic colours don't have their metallic sheen in traditional cel-based animation, so he could have been intended to be silver.

Grey is basically what the animation model had, although when he was battle damaged in the movie he had a slight sheen to him (which the battle damaged parts have, making them appear glossy in pictures).
Never fear, if they can redeco mp10 so many times surely a silver megatron/black repaint would be around the corner ;)

The sketches don't looklike Hasui or Kobayashi's style, especially the shading study. Saw this dude (http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Yuki_Ohshima)'s name next to the first concept sketch. Maybe he's responsible for the concept design like what he did for MP Hot Rod?

Based on various official magazine reveals like Figure King's (http://www.seibertron.com/transformers/news/takara-tomy-transformers-masterpiece-mp36-megatron-revealed/36573/), I thought we've already known for 2 months that this is exactly what the final product's back will look like.

Yup, just flip to page 37 of this thread to see the back kibble has always been the same. I don't think its an issue either, there has to be a trade off to get this figure looking as accurate as possible to both modes. I find it less intrusive than Ironhide/Ratchet's hip kibble quite frankly.

it's interesting to see so many locally and overseas 'suddenly' disappointed by the back since the testshot/reject pics show up
like others already pointed out nothing has really changed since the official shots were released showing the back looks messy from get go, likely a by product of the transformation engineering/design but at least from recent examples we know it'll likely be a intuitive and good one.

Now that you posted this I noticed something, the back panels are actually reversed on the test shot, rather than being "filled in" mess of multiple panels we're looking at the back of the "single slab".
I think takara just tried to add complexity to mp megatron but end up loosing his back, surprised they couldn't do better seeing how the main gimmick of inferno and grapple WAS their back ladder magic, and some of those 3p megatrons had cleaner backs (to be fair my personal picks have the ugliest XD)

I do not care about the hollow back or arms. For a very good robot and gun likeness with a (hopefully) good transformation some trade-offs need to be made.

5th January 2017, 12:51 AM
Inferno and Grapple's show models are relatively more toy-accurate and they transform from bulky Mitsubishi Fuso trucks into bulky robots. They're able to focus their disappearing act on the ladder/crane because there's relatively less other parts that they have to make disappear. When I first got Inferno my initial thoughts were that it feels like a nicer toy than Ironhide/Ratchet, but then I immediately became mindful of the fact that Ironhide/Ratchet are basically trying to recreate show models which completely defied reality. Also, one advantage of translating Diacloneformers into MPs is that they have these lovely cavities which were pilot compartments in the G1 toys that can instead be used to house vehicle mode kibble. I still think that Inferno's ladder trick is freaking amazing, but at least Inferno has the option of using what is otherwise unused space in the toy. Ironhide/Ratchet also tuck away a lot of their alt mode panels into that space as well (much of which disappears in the cartoon). As a Microman based toy with no cockpit, Megatron doesn't have this luxury.
Megatron is another tricky reality-defying show model that makes it jolly hard to translate as an action figure. In the cartoon Megatron transforms from being a thin pistol to being a bulky robot. Where does all that additional mass come from and go between modes? And don't forget that almost* every MP toy has exposed kibble somewhere, but with vehicles it's on the underside where you normally don't see it. Where are they going to reveal kibble on MP Megatron? Options are either in robot or gun mode. They've chosen robot mode, and they've opted for the back rather than the front. It may not be visually perfect, but the bulk's gotta go somewhere.
And I think that the back is the best place to put leftover kibble because this is what we're missing out on...
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y227/goktimusprime/Transformers/megatronsback_zpsu6u5vb0w.jpg
Depending on the artist we're missing out on seeing either a blank panel or two black lines. Nothing I'm gonna lose sleep over. :o And believe it or not, Megatron rarely showed his back for long in the G1 cartoon. Getting these screen shots were tricky, each one of them only lasted for barely a second each.
The whole figure looks like a jigsaw puzzle. It looks horrid.
The price you pay for having an MP Megatron toy that's trying to be slavishly accurate to the G1 cartoon. I think that the robot mode looks fine. The gun mode does seam to suffer though. :p
-------------------------------------
*Except for MPs with non-realistic alt modes; Grimlock, Shockwave & Star Sabre. None of these characters really change proportions much between alt and robot mode either; they go from bulky alt modes to bulky robots.

My son was "reading" the Japanese Transformers magazine last night as I found it in a store here the other day and when he came across those pages of MP Megatron was all but begging me to get it for him and couldn't stop looking at the article. The magazine images really are amazing and his birthday is coming up in a couple of months... and there are no restrictions where we live currently, BUT looking to the future... how on earth would I get his Megs back to NSW when we eventually move back there given the licensing required (and he'll probably be underage for firearms)... sigh...

You may need to get the permit under your name and just say that the toy is yours from a legal POV. It may be your son's in practical reality. Kinda like how Hong Kong belongs to China on paper, but... ;) :p The real tricky thing will be the safe storage requirements. Are you and your son planning on having your TFs kept in the same room? If so, then I guess it'd be okay to have a lock installed on that room. But many parents would - understandably - object to having locks on their children's bedroom doors, which would be legally required if the toy were kept in his room. Might be best to have all your family's TFs in the same room, perhaps in separate shelving units. That way MP36 can be placed on your son's unit with the lockable display unit, then lock on the door and windows (although I've never come across a window that didn't already have a lock installed). If the room is on the ground floor then any windows will need to have security grills installed on the windows.

I hadn't even thought that far ahead in terms of locked storage/display... we have a single story house back in Oz so I guess I need to really think about the logistics of the house when we are planning to move back not just the implications of getting Megs through customs.
Throwing it in with his other Transformers is appealing, but not something I'd be comfortable with.
Thanks for giving me something to think about while I consider whether to get this MP or not. My son opens the mag every day to eyeball this guy making the decision a hard one as I know it's a figure he really REALLY wants.

I don't want to derail this thread with gun permit stuff but I don't actually have my permit yet. I'm in WA so it may be slightly different where you are but if you look at the form it asks you for the estimated date of arrival. Which of course I don't have yet. I'll apply for it once I actually know when I'm bringing MP36 in.
I ordered my MP 36 from Oh My Primus in Singapore. My brother lives there so he'll pick it up in person for me. How I bring MP 36 back to Oz I'm still deciding...I'm saving up for a end of year trip to America so spending on a mini trip to Singapore to bring back MP 36 may not be feasible. If I'm desperate I could get my brother to post it for me.
As to how long a B709 permit takes, I'm unsure. When I applied for my B709 permit back in 2010 to bring back MP 05 from Singapore, it took 3 working days to get processed by WAPOL. But its fair to say each police force has differing workloads.

I was thinking MP10 is great as it is, i never thought we'd need an updated MP10 but next to MP36 he's clearly outdated.
I noticed the hands too and i like the subtle curves on the front skirt
Aesthetically TT really captured the G1 cartoon look which i think is amazing. As good looking as the 3rd party bots are they never captured the look and feel from the cartoons.

provided the module is an easy take out, its going to be an Hasbro wait.
Not that this cannot happen, I just don't see it happening yet. The sound is probably least of my concerns anyway. Lets see how slow this item is coming to us, whether you bought PC or Japan/Hong Kong and whether customs stop it on day 1.
Pretty sure this will be the talk of the toy for next month.

Looks like I need a third one.
Seriously the transformation!:eek: The chest, the thighs, and the feet!:eek:
I think it's the comprises that the TT designers have to make make them come up with much more elegant designs than the 3p ones. Most of the 3p Megatrons try to have the chest panel actually transform like the G1 toy did. TT ditched this idea altogether so the upper body transformation is so much more stream-lined, and symmetrical too.

Aww, poor MP5. Before we all go MP5 hatin' when this toy comes out, bear in mind that:
* MP5 is 10 years older
* MP5 was designed in a rush - Yuki Hisashi had like only a week to design MP5! :eek: Bear in mind that the average Transformer toy takes a year from inception to final product. I suspect that MP36 was designed under more normal conditions with a much longer time frame.
So comparing MP5 with MP36 is kinda like if I asked an artist to draw or paint a picture of Megatron. The first artist is given a month to work on the art piece while the other is given a minute. I think that MP5 is an astoundingly great toy given the conditions that it was created under! :eek:

Does anyone here think that this version of Megatron should have been help up two Masterpiece releases?
Just so he could have been M"P-38" Megatron?
Loving the separate laser effect for his hand gun or dagger, after the 1-piece dagger for MP-5, the pictures of MP-36's accessories, and the unclear package contents from Tomy Malls website, I was afraid it be a 1-piece again. Just a shame there isn't a similar blast effect for his Fusion cannon.
The voice chip would be pretty easy to change. Assuming it's not too difficult (ie I wont damage it) I'll take mine apart and see what type of chip it is, then I'll post an eBay link for all the parts you'd need to make a Frank Welker English version one. It's not like it's 1986 anymore these voice chips are chipsplay to program and replace, it's getting clean samples or cleaning samples of Mr Welker that'll be difficult. :D

There is a saying, we can only judge based on a product you provide so end of the day it's judge on the final product not how fast you design or made it.

Couldn't agree more. If it was truly designed in a week then that just reeks of a cash grab. Why on earth would they do that to a major character like Megatron? Would love to hear the reason why it was rushed out like that but doubt we will ever know.

Hello-
This is Xxxx Xxxxxxx at HobbyLink Japan. Thank you very much for your order with us for Takara-Tomy's Transformers Masterpiece MP-36 Megatron. We anticipate starting to fill orders for this item on or about April 3 Japan time.
This toy will be packaged in robot mode. However, it can be transformed into a realistic-looking likeness of a gun, which we understand is also pictured on this item's packaging. As a result, for customers in the United States and Australia, HobbyLink Japan will be placing a plastic orange plug into the end of the barrel in order to keep this toy in compliance with Title 15, Chapter 76 of the United States Code.
Installing this plug on the item will require our staff to open the packaging, which will require cutting the tape holding the box flap closed. This will be performed with the utmost care, but of course it will prevent us from delivering this product to U.S. and Australian customers in "unopened" condition. Note that without this modification, your purchase could be confiscated by your country's customs service, and U.S. customers could be charged with a crime under the above U.S. Federal law.
HobbyLink Japan understands and appreciates the desires of toy collectors in the U.S. and Australia related to merchandise of this nature, and we feel this is the best solution to meet those needs under the circumstances. In order to maintain your item's compliance with your country's laws, we recommend that you do not remove the plastic plug after you have received the item.
We appreciate your understanding, and your business with us.
Best Regards,

I am friend with some from the assembly line in Vietnam Takara factory. We discuss about MP-36 because despite some are too old ( workers ) , 2 of them know lots about transformer. I ask if ever could review a reject piece so that people might get some insight about this figure since it is one of the most anticipated of probably this decade for transformer fan. Then it happens that there are 2 pieces as gifts to the factory, so I purchased it with original price and there you go.

It depends on how PC are shipping their MP-36 order/s from Hong Kong. If they ship in one single batch, then it could arrive in a week and be distributed in a few days, as they would want to clear their warehouse space. That happened with Carnifex, which was also a huge order for them. Typically however, their orders arrive in various allotments depending on the space allocated in the shipping containers. That scenario takes around three months to fulfill all orders.

Posted this in the gunformers thread but never got a response. Currently going through the motions of approval with the ACT Firearms Registry and was asked to email them stating what I wanted to import (MP-36), my being a collector, etc. I was wondering how the following email I've drafted but haven't sent, sounds in terms of stating a case for importing MP-36 regarding how impossible he is to modify, cultural significance, status as a collector and safe storage:
To Whom It May Concern,
My name is Andrew Richards and I am a soon to be 38 year old, long time vintage toy and pop culture collector, who is wondering what would be required of me to own a collectable of high cultural significance which you may have concerns about.
One of the core toy lines I collect is the Transformers toy line. As you are no doubt aware, Transformers is a worldwide, pop culture phenomenon which has enjoyed ever growing popularity and success; 2019 will mark its 35th anniversary. Two of the most iconic characters in that series are the leaders of the Heroic Autobots and Evil Decepticons - Optimus Prime and Megatron respectively; also commonly known as "the guy that turns into a truck" and "the guy who turns into a gun" respectively. To a toy collector, particularly a Transformers collector, representations of these figures are of an incredibly high cultural value and are significantly important parts of the collections of any Transformers Collector.
The reason I am bringing this up is due to the imminent release of the latest Transformers Masterpiece figure - MP-36, Masterpiece Megatron. As the following link notes, the figure is an accurate depiction of the cartoon representation of the original Megatron, who converts into the animated likeness of a Walther P-38 Desert Eagle. A link to the figure can be found here: http://hlj.com/product/TKT87511
You will note from the copious amounts of accessories that like All Masterpiece figures, this figure is intended to be the ultimate representation of one of the two most recognisable characters in the entire Transformers mythos.
As I realise the figure may present some concerns to you, I will now do my best to allay them
The attached photo "MP-36 Masterpiece Megatron instructions.jpg" is a scan of the instructions for the figure posted by someone overseas. You will note that its inner complexity is so great that it would be all but impossible to convert into a working firearm and simply not worth the effort to do so.
Regarding the appearance of the figure, I would like to draw your attention to an email I just received
I will also not the following email I received on Wed, Mar 29, 2017 at 2:10 PM:

In other words the figure will have the same orange cap which can be found on any toy gun found in a $2 shop. Furthermore, given the designers of the figure have strived for animation accuracy while toy gun manufacturers have strived for more realistic looks, by using things such as chrome, it could be argued that this figure is even less realistic than a toy gun found in a $2 shop which can be freely bought by anyone without any concerns by any firearms regulatory body in the country.
In other words, modifying this figure to pass it off as a real firearm, would would require more effort than doing the same with a toy pistol from a $2 shop, while costing almost 100 times the price of said children's toy gun.
As for myself, I am a collector who has never had his collection valued because the thought of how much it might be worth scares him, but I suspect that an estimate in the vicinity of up to $200,000 wouldn't be out of place. My collection contains a vast array of figures from different eras, going back as far as the 1960s with some of the more eclectic pieces of have.
My main collection consists of:
- several Super Sentai (Japanese Power Rangers) and Kamen Rider collectibles and figures;
- a complete unopened Visionaries toy collection;
- unopened Masters of the Universe figures;
- a close to complete collection of unopened Silverhawks figures;
- an impressive M.A.S.K. collection, containing over 2 dozen unopened figures and vehicles, as well as prototype figures;
- a modest GIJOE collection containing the massive USS Flagg playset;
- roughly half a dozen high end pop culture 1/6 scale figures and vehicles from Hot Toys and Go Hero, including a 1/6 scale 1989 Batmobile;
- an almost complete unopened Captain Power Collection;
- an close to complete unopened Defenders of the Earth Collection;
- an almost complete unopened Centurions collection, and;
- an almost complete unopened Sky Commanders collection.
You will note that I have yet to mention my Transformers collection.
My Transformers collection is respectable, though hardly the largest in the country. I would estimate that I would have maybe 300-400 figures.
Within that collection would be:
- over two dozen unopened vintage Transformers toys going as far back as 1985;
- over half a dozen "pre-transformers" figures (figures from earlier toy lines which were reused in the original Transformers toyline) in their boxes;
- foreign release Transformers figures from the mid 1980s,
- original animation cels from the 1990s;
- a prototype figure of a mid 1990s figure - the prototype intended for QA testing;
- rare reference material, including a 1990 toy wholesale catalog produced by Hasbro for retailers;
- bagged and boarded vintage Transformers comics in pristine condition from the 1980's and;
- an original paste-up board of the letters page for the 1990 comic where I criticised the then current writer for selling out - it was a gift to me from Marvel Comics.
Especially pertinent to acquiring this figure is the fact that since the line rebooted as of the release of MP-09, I have every figure to date in the Transformers Masterpiece toyline with the exception of a few obscure variant figures.
As you could understand that while you may be concerned with someone stealing a figure which could be made into the likeness of a gun for the purposes of committing a crime, I am simply concerned with any part of such a collection being robbed full-stop. While my home does not have bars on it, it is equipped with a back to base alarm system. The only external access to the room containing my collection is a window in an internal courtyard, which can only be accessed by jumping a high brick fence in my next door neighbour's backyard. The room is also set to a zero second delay when the alarm system has been activated. About the only thing I haven't dozen which I could potentially do as my wife and I are renting, is for me to buy lockable cabinets.
Given that I have outlined both the high cultural value of this figure, the high value of my collection (demonstrating that I am a serious toy collector) and how incredibly well protected my collection is, what steps would be required of me to legally obtain this figure?
Regards,
Andrew Richards
Any feedback would be appreciated.

I expect that we'll have a repeat of previous takara products. Some will receive their mp36 soon after release, others will wait weeks extending into months. This standard practice from pc will inconvenience collectors because they are relying on pc to do the importing for them due to them not being permitted to own a replica/imitation therefore making the ability to import from overseas reputable stores all the more difficult. I can see this getting ugly.

Trim it down to what is most relevant - you are a long term collector of Transformers who wishes to procure MP-36 for his Masterpiece collection as Megatron is a primary figure.
There is no exemption made for replica firearms being imported for having an orange cap that I am aware of. There certainty wasn't 10 years ago when MP-5 was released.
I'd hazard that they probably won't respond to a letter like that unless it's a generic response.
If you order MP-36 and it is seized, you will need a relevant license to have it released.
That's well written out and should help your case. I used the one on the Megatron Club website but changed all MP-05 references to MP-36.
If it's the one I'm thinking of, I wrote it. :rolleyes: There would have been a part about MP-5 being oversized, which isn't applicable to MP-36, but if you have the license that should be all you need.

I put my response in the gunformers thread. Orange plug will not make a difference. In the nicest way possible, they're opening the box for nothing.
This is unfortunately true. :(
The only jurisdiction I could find that even mentions the orange plug is Victoria, which clearly states (http://www.police.vic.gov.au/content.asp?Document_ID=35527) that attaching a coloured barrel or handle, does not over-ride their three point checklist for determining if it needs to be licensed as an Imitation Weapon.
Point 1 (shape/size) applies to these toys, because they replicate a handgun, and the main three that were released already are close enough with their size, to fool an ordinary person who may not know the exact size of a real gun.
Point 2 (overall colouring) applies to this toy, because despite it using some lighter "cartoon" grey on it, the gun mode is grey and black, and not brightly coloured. And having an orange barrel plug would not make it the majority colour (the 2006 Generations Megatron is a good example of overall colouring making it look obvious that it is a toy)
Point 3 (materials used, or materials it looks like) may not be as obvious to this particular Megatron toy as the previous ones that had chrome or metallic colour to them, but the key factor in this Point is that materials must give the immediate impression that device is not a functional weapon. Up close, it is obvious, but a couple of metres away, pointed in your direction, the dark shiny plastics of the stock, silencer and sight, would be enough doubt to make this point apply as well.
Which all means, if this is deemed to be ticking all three of those boxes without the orange barrel plug, the addition of the barrel plug should not end up changing anything, and Customs will still seize it... particularly because, they don't open the boxes (they seize the toys based on their x-ray scans and leave them sealed - at least, in my case they did), so they won't even see if it has a barrel plug anyway.

Lucky you! They opened mine, and many other peoples, and wrote the case No. on the inside flap. The toy itself was still sealed in the insert tray.

To be honest, I feel like the email is pretty long. Police Firearms are a pretty busy bunch already and I would recommend keeping it brief. If I'm not mistaken you are in essence asking what is required to purchase and keep Megatron. The first page of the gunformers page pretty much sets it out. If I'm not mistaken you live in NSW? Unfortunately you have a lot more hoops to jump.
As an example, here is the email correspondence when I enquired about MP05's status in WA and application for a B709 import permit. Names have been changed. Can I stress that this was for MP05 back in 2010.

Yes the firearm is considered a replica/imitation firearm and therefore, is subject to a B709 application to bring it into the country and pass through Customs. All applications are subject to assessment by myself before a permit is considered or issued. B709 application attached.

Good morning
I am going to Singapore this weekend and am thinking of bringing back a "Transformers" Megatron figurine. I'm a bit of a fan of the old Transformers cartoons from the 80's. I don't know if you're familiar with the old 80's cartoon, but the Megatron figurine "transforms" into a gun. I know Australian Customs are confiscating this figurine because in NSW it's been declared a replica gun. Do you know if WAPOL would consider this toy a replica gun, and if so, would it even be possible to bring one back? I've attached some pictures of the toy for reference, and included a B709 permit if necessary.
Regards,
Ralph Wiggum

Since he asked, at least now talyn8 has an idea of what he's in for having bought the topic of this thread from pc. I'm not the bad guy if i answered his question with more bashing of..... err.... umm... fact based on historical evidence.

So HLJ jusr re-emailed their declaration.
Hello again-
This is Xxxx Xxxxxxx at HobbyLink Japan, with an update on your order for Takara-Tomy's Transformers Masterpiece MP-36 Megatron.
This toy will be packaged in robot mode. However, it can be transformed into a realistic-looking likeness of a gun, which is also pictured prominently on this item's packaging. We are writing to let you know that to keep MP-36 Megatron in compliance with Title 15, Chapter 76 of the United States Code, for orders shipped to the U.S. and Australia we will be attaching a blaze orange plastic plug not only into the end of the barrel, but also into the end of the included silencer that is designed to fit over the barrel and so would obscure the barrel's plug.
Installing these plugs will require our staff to open the packaging, which will involve cutting the tape on the outer box flap and the tape on the inner clamshells. This will be performed with the utmost care, but of course will prevent us from delivering this product to U.S. and Australian customers in "unopened" condition. Please do not remove the blaze orange plastic plugs after you have received MP-36 Megatron.
**While this modification brings the toy into compliance with U.S. law, please be aware that your importation and/or ownership of this toy may not be in compliance with your own country's laws. As always, acting in accordance with your country's laws is your own responsibility, and importing any item to your country is at your own risk.**
We will start to fill U.S. and Australian orders for this hotly awaited item within the next week, after the blaze orange plugs have been applied. If you would prefer to cancel your order, the My Account system (accessible by clicking "My Account" on the top right of page on http://www.hlj.com) will allow you to do so any time before your order has been filled.
Thank you for shopping with us!
Best Regards,
Xxxx Xxxxxxx

EDIT: I replied asking how the plug will be affixed.

Actually bounced it off before I got your response Ralph. In the ACT theses days and called up the ACT Firearms Registry 30 mins after I sent the email to make sure it had surfaced. Was told in no uncertain terms that the legislation for replica firearms explicitly excludes toys. I was told that they had no issues and if needed, they could have a B709A processed within a few days for it. They also suggested I call customs to check it was prohibited; I called Customs and was told that in all likelihood it would be seized.
Being concerned about Tober's point, I asked if any suggestions could be made about how the figure was handled during seizure re Tober's point about boxes being written on. When the woman I spoke to advised me to do was to send it out via private courier, as even though Customs still maintain legal jurisdiction over the seizure, it remains in the custody of the courier company and they handle the entire process themselves.
To that end, I'm wondering about sending it out from my private warehouse though DHL as they seem to be only slightly more expensive than EMS as a shipping option.
Anyone got any thoughts on that front?

Okay guys. I just received a reply to an email i sent requesting hlj not to open and place a plug on mp36 because it's not necassary here in aus. Mark katsugi informed me that hlj will not be opening boxes to place a orange plug on any of the mp36 bound for australia. That's a win for us

And again from HLJ:
TL: DR Version. They are sending out unopened MP-36 boxes to Australia. :)
Hello again-
This is Xxxx Xxxxxxx at HobbyLink Japan. I wrote earlier today about your order for Takara-Tomy's Transformers Masterpiece MP-36 Megatron.
After receiving information from several Australian hobbyists about import regulations (which, we have learned, do *not* require a blaze-orange plastic plug for toy guns) and their experiences regarding the import of gun-shaped Transformers, we have decided to send our Australian customers the regular unopened, unaltered version of MP-36 Megatron.
As always, **please be aware that your importation and/or ownership of this toy may not be in compliance with your own country's laws. As always, acting in accordance with your country's laws is your own responsibility, and importing any item to your country is at your own risk.**
That said, here is a page with a wealth of information regarding the import of gun-shaped Transformers: http://www.toycollectors.com.au/megatron.html
We highly recommend it, and thank Matthew Griffin for bringing it to our attention.
We apologize for any confusion caused by our previous two e-mails regarding your MP-36 Megatron order. This item has just arrived, and we will start filling orders for it soon! (If you would prefer to cancel your order, though, we ask that you please do so as soon as possible. The My Account system, accessible by clicking "My Account" on the top right of page on http://www.hlj.com, will allow you to cancel if your order has not yet been filled.)
We appreciate your business with us!
Best Regards,

Dammit, you mean I just finished composing a lengthy email where I went through the relevant parts of this document (https://www.legislation.gov.au/Details/F2016C00795) at length for nothing lol :p

Just caught the video. I'm not sure a heart attack during transformation will be out of the question - it makes an Alternity figure look like a G1 Minicar in comparison; heck, I was freaking out just watching him transform it.
TT seriously nailed it with this guy in every way and I have to agree with everyone else- the technology on MP figures has advanced that much that we need an Optimus 3.0 and I also thought I'd never be saying that.

I didn't expect that they would include that page in the mailout... nor did I make any demands or requests. I simply asked them why, and who told them to modify our toys, giving them links to the police site and that page of ours.
At least our toys wont be opened... and they will go through the same customs process with or without the plug.

So according to Takara's site, Megatron's release date is April 1st. This is my first time ordering from Premium Collectables, does anyone know how long it will take them to receive their stock and start shipping out? Thanks!
Anywhere from 2 weeks to 12 months. Not kidding.
What Megatron? Thrust hasn't even been completed as my friend is still waiting, so is inferno, Grapple and Skywarp or potential gorilla prima still on the loose. lol I have serious concerns about their Megatrons reaching any of us by June if the current state of outstanding products are still not fulfilled.
There were two runs from PC, good luck if you were round one, I pray for you if you are in run 2. I really like to see if PC fulfil what they said in having all the Megs done by May.
Thanks for the info guys. I was in the first run from PC, I think I ordered within two hours of the listing going live. So I shouldn't be worried right? I've never ordered from PC before and now I'm starting to worry.

I ordered a few hours after the listing and paid the extra $35 to become first in line, and I'm still worried. The page says no express shipping available but I paid the $35 to become first in queue. I hope they pick up on it. I'd email them but they don't respond.
