View Full Version : JP MP Spinout and Arcee in-hand photos

An early Christmas present from a very generous Hasbro Australia... for help with fandom info, some promotions, and interacting on some special projects.
(A number of American fansites get heaps of free stuff to promote, so this would be something similar for the work my sites have done for them too)
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/news/2020/102101.jpg
Since Super Megatron is already out, this will just be photos of the JP Masterpiece Spinout and Arcee (over the next week... unless TakaraTomy puts a stop to it, if they have their own planned photo reveals in the next two months).
I will be reviewing Arcee myself, while I will be lending Spinout to a friend (Ravagecat/Soundwavescat - https://www.instagram.com/soundwavescat/ (https://www.instagram.com/soundwavescat/?fbclid=IwAR2_bY_e4AgWRtS9aZYYWTJS5gQ8i6HwU0K2iwi6 B6sw1AJnPd91Flp3HWU) ) who will be posting up pics of that toy on his insta page... in a few days time.
Just noting that Spinout is due out at the end of November, while Arcee is due out at the end of December.
It has just been pointed out that I was sent a pre-production copy of Arcee, because it has a serial number printed on the box and etched into the toy itself... so even though I thought it was saving me from buying it, I think that I will still have to, as this one is effectively defaced. (it might be rarer, but it probably isn't worth anything more because it won't look good as a display figure)
Spinout is probably also a pre-production sample (which would explain the squashed plastic inner case), but I haven't seen any numbering on it in car mode (if it has it on its robot mode, Ravagecat will have to find it when he transforms it).

When I took them both out of their boxes Spinout's plastic inner case is completely squashed... even though the box was still sealed with single tape, meaning this must have happened in the factory before it was boxed. Hopefully the toy isn't damaged.

Wow, new MP?s are always exciting. I can?t wait to have both in my hands.
I?m looking forward to seeing Arcee bot pics the most. I?m still not happy with the look. For a cartoon accurate line I?m surprised they didn?t go in that direction.

I still think Arcee?s proportions are slightly off, but it?s nice just to have another figure to add to the movie line. I?ve got mine pre-ordered from OMP so I?ll expect to have her in-hand around January.

Ozformers member Ravagecat has started posting up photos of Spinout on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/soundwavescat/), of both modes so far, and next to MP Sideswipe in car mode, showing how similar they are.
Images have been mirrored here for those who may not be able to see them on Instagram (https://news.tfw2005.com/2020/10/24/transformers-masterpiece-mp-39-spinout-in-hand-gallery-422675).... which saves me the trouble of hosting all of them myself.
Stickers have been applied, except the red stickers, which the instructions note are for the MP-39 Sunstreaker toy, to make it more accurate to the Gen1 Sunstreaker toy, which had red shoulders and red rear wheel covers.

Silly question I think I know the answer to, but do actual Countach's have the word Countach on their spoiler - or is that toy/model car thing only?

This is close to what I want to see. I if I may put a request in I'd like to see MP Spinout (with his rear-mounted engine exposed) next to MP Sideswipe.
Even though the engine would have been exposed on one, you can see from this picture why Budiansky called the two red Lamborghinis twins when he was coming up with their bios.

Ravagecat has the various "Diaclone" MP Transformers for when he starts doing some comparison photos (I lent him ones that he didn't have, so it should look interesting when he gets to it). Keep checking his instagram page for new photos.

I haven't seen the word Countach on any car photos, so it is probably just a toy/model thing. I would say that it would look stupid on an actual car, but I've seen things written on Asian street-racer/drifter type cars (like Nismo or Subaru).
I will ask Ravagecat to keep an eye on this topic, for any worthy requests (obviously something completely unrelated wouldn't be likely), when he has time.

I think it's amazing that here we have two Countache car toys and they look remarkably different.
When i got Sideswipe, I thought " OH man, this is a perfect contache model"
But then seeing it next to Sunstraker/SPinout, you can see that the newer one is a better car model as well. Amazing.
Unless they are based off of different models/years of the contache?

Don't forget that MP Sunstreaker is about double the price of MP Lambor - so perhaps having a bigger budget meant that they could make a nicer looking car mode.
Heh, I remember when MP12 came out and I thought that it was expensive for what it was. About the same price as a Binaltech car but no die-cast metal, no detailed interior, no working steering, no bonnet/engine, no boot, no internal weapon storage etc. But admittedly MPs do have to work around trying to look like the G1 model which BTs didn't have to - they had relatively more creative freedom in that regard. BTs are practically cheap Mini-Bots compared to MP Cars now!

Big thanks to Griffin for lending me his Early Release Copy of MP-39+ Spin-Out to play with and Photograph!
Admittedly Spin-Out was my first experience with this mold, I own MP-39 and MP-42 but they had been sitting in my to-open pile since their release…Getting early access to MP-39+ has inspired me to open them since…
First Impressions (Spin-Out)- This is a great toy, feels solid in hand, has a fun transform, the robot mode is well proportioned and articulated and the car mode is a great representation of a Lamborghini Contach LP500 coloured in the finest shade of Lamborghini Red to boot…
He comes with all the previous accessories offered with his predecessors except for the Chip Chase figure and Wheelchair allowing for a good combination of display variety and action poses.
The included stickers are worth applying and definitely enhance the look of the Spin-Out toy IMO and they even give you some extra red stickers to compliment your MP-39 Sunstreaker though you could probably give the car mode ones a miss as they look a little out of place and require two stickers one of which needs to be folded around a curve (never a good mix in my experience) the red robot shoulder stickers are the standout preference for Sunny IMO
If you are new to the mold there are a couple of small pitfalls to be mindful of when transforming any of these three.
1. The front windscreen – from what I’ve read it is prone to cracking on Sunstreaker if too much force is exerted or even just from moving it in and out of place. You would hope they have improved/fixed this by Spin-Out but you never know. With my Sunstreaker it kept popping of all the time, Cordon , I don't think it came off once, Spinout I think it may of popped of a few times. Try to avoid holding the windscreen when moving this section around, there are other parts to this section you can push/pull on to get it in place. If it pops off during transformation, best to leave it off until you get the rest of the parts in place then slide it back on.
2. When converting back to car, the elbows need to slightly concertina on themselves into the forearms before you swing the arms up to form the back of the car. Don’t try to force the elbow into the required position as you firstly need slide his elbow (red section of arm on Spin-Out) a few millimetres up at the pin. This give you the clearance required to concertina his elbow into the black forearm section.
3. When transforming back to car, the arms swing out and up above his head, don’t forget to turn his shoulder spurs 180 degrees to allow clearance of the head and there are also two pegs on the back end of the cars side panels (looking top down) that hold the chest in place for robot mode. Make sure these are pushed back down flush otherwise you will never get the engine cover panel in place.
Now that I have handled all three of this mold, Sunstreaker is the worst as far as QC. I had lots of trouble with panels not lining up and joint tightness or lack thereof – particularly the doors and the mid-section connectors when compared to the other two.
They definitely tweaked the mold for Cordon as he was a substantially improved play experience for me. Everything on him felt firm and lined up with ease. Though he has the least accessories of the three I really like his police colouring and decals and overall look!
Unfortunately Spin-Out felt like a slight step backwards as far as QC compared to Cordon but nowhere near as bad as Sunstreaker. The doors felt slightly looser than Cordon and there were a few panels that needed a bit of mucking around with before they mostly lined up. This could just be because it is a pre-release sample and /or as Griffin mentioned the plastic insert was completely crushed in an undamaged outer box which could have been the cause of some of these issues.
Worth getting?
Yes IMHO
- Great looking robot mode
- Even Better looking LP500/LP500S car mode
- Great assortment of accessories and optional stickers
- Awesome colour
- Fun to transform
- If you don’t have any of these molds, what are you waiting for? Though I’d recommend Cordon or Spin-out from my own play experience.
- You probably have MP-39, MP-42 already so why not get a third…
- You really want those red shoulder stickers for Sunny...:D
I will be posting up on my Instagram page over the coming days some robot comparison pictures of Spin-Out and his mold buddies then once I have time some group shots of Spin-out with all of his other Car-Robots/Diaclone Friends so Stay Tuned!

I can?t wait for Arcee robot mode pics. I?ve never been on the fence as much as I have with this figure. I want to like it but the front on pic makes the proportions look extremely off. I just don?t understand why they didn?t go for the toon look like every other MP they?re releasing these days.

Alt mode looks good but no two ways about it, Arcee's bot mode isn't up to current MP standards. It's got the articulation but hasn't got the toon look. Honestly surprised this is the look they went for.
At least MP-52 Starscream look like a home run.

Super curious griffin as to why the images aren’t posted here? Hasbro sent these to you, OTCA is your website and the only places someone can view the images are not OTCA?
Seems like you’re doing your own website a massive disservice here dude.
There were actually a few reasons....
These weren't sent for me to promote, as they were in return for some projects I have worked on... I just felt like I still needed to earn them, as I see being on those projects as reward enough (being included on something official is a fan's greatest dream). It was only when they arrived, that I saw that two of them hadn't been released yet, so thought that doing some photos or video, will be a good way to "earn" them.
Saying that, I also didn't want anyone at Hasbro Australia getting into trouble from Hasbro America for releasing samples to fans before they were officially released, or for one fan to appear to be making money from them (even though we didn't put up a youtube video to make money from views, or have advertising on our site to generate revenue from those views or clicks... it wouldn't stop some fans complaining to Hasbro that they were playing favourites with fansites, which was a big thing about 10 years ago that put a stop to any "official" interaction with fansites).
I also wanted to share the attention, as these weren't Ozformers exclusives... if anything they were Australian exclusives, and I wanted to make sure other Australians benefited from the global attention, especially with the SS-72 Starscream toy expected to get a lot of attention for our name.
Initially I only gave Ravagecat the MP Spinout toy (as he could do a better job of showing off the new toy with his photo skills, which he has been doing for a while now on Instagram), as I was planning to take care of Arcee myself (which would have been the Ozformers exposure). However, since I was a bit busy with some other projects (including SS-72 Starscream), it prevented me from doing all that I wanted to do with Arcee within the time frame that I had wanted... so I passed it off to Ravagecat as well (he lives nearby, and I know him enough to trust him).
I also knew that when the images would hit the internet, they would go everywhere quickly... and since I don't trust the reliability of the current server to host images that could get accessed very frequently, I told Ravagecat to just post them on his Instagram page, which would mean that by the time I posted about them here, they were already everywhere, and I could just link to his page or another fansite, because I was too busy to mirror them here (and could just use up their bandwidth instead :p ).
It seems weird that I'm not posting images of my toys on my site, but circumstances required other people to do it and get the attention first, as I would be generating enough attention with SS-72 Starscream to want additional attention from two other toys... especially if Starscream was the only one that Hasbro America knew that we had, so I don't want to risk the Australian branch being told to cut all ties with us, making it better to have another "non-Ozformers" site do the reveals.
