The scary thing was that it was a lolly ring - given the previous scene 'Happy International Women's Day' would Wade have told her where it was hidden before she put it in her mouth?:p
Absolute pearler of a movie! Hoping they do a blu-ray directors cut of it :D
Re Deadpool: I have not had so many laugh-out-loud moments at a cinema since... well, pretty much ever. I'm struggling to find anything to seriously criticise. The mate that I saw it with loved it and went again - he said it was a little less funny the second time around (which may seem a bit obvious I guess), but he was saying it was much better the first time as it was a big, very full cinema full of fans.
Personally I can't imagine it being any less funny on repeat viewings. Not only was it funny, but it had a whole lot of heart. It's seriously amazing how they pulled off the fluctuations in tone so deftly. :D
I did note that the movie only had basically 2 big fight scenes/set pieces - they were just revisited and used in flashback several times.
Big thumbs up. It is brilliant.
Tim Miller joins the ranks of first time directors who knocked their first feature out of the park. Kudos to him!
I read somewhere that the jokes in the pre-credits had another dimension to them - apparently who gets credit and for what is a super big deal in Hollywood - there are union rules governing who gets what billing (regarding writers, producers, etc) - and this movie broke a lot of those rules in order to get a laugh (or more accurately, several laughs). It represents some pretty brave comedy, especially in a world where hundreds of millions of dollars are at stake.
And the director literally called himself "an overpaid tool".:D How often you reckon that happens in Hollywood?:D:D:D
Just saw deadpool, better than I expected, no boring bits! :D
Add another to the 'just saw Deadpool' (although that was last Thursday) crowd. Loved every minute of it. It was my wife's b'day movie, guess who picked to go see it :D
Not really... The film's "opening credits" were at the end of the film and everyone got named correctly there. The "credits" you saw at the start of the film were just jokes on screen. Makes a good story though for the "Deadpool is so outrageous" stories.
(But then I feel like the only person in the world disappointed by the film...)
Many movies don't have the "opening credits" at the start of the film, Star Wars a good example of it but there are scores of others. The credits that would be at the start of the film are shown first at the end of the movie in a different style from the ful credits because they are those "main credits" and the ones those rules apply for even if they appear at the end of the film. Deadpool had those. Animated with boner jokes. They are the start of the film credits they just appear at the end of the film.
I wouldn't watch it again any time soon, but it was alright. 1 or 2 funny moments which got a giggle out of the cinema and the action scenes were your typical fare.
I didn't think it was anything spectacular, but then again, I was never a huge fan of the character. 3 mehs out of 5.
Finally finished the hobbit trilogy
Gollum sums up my thoughts nicely
I'm downloading a fan cut, I know there is a good movie in here. It'll be interesting to see how it'll fare without all the padding and fan fiction.
Yeah both the wife and I have tried to watch the first movie twice now and both times we've fallen asleep. That video seems to speak true :p Waiting until we can manage to get through the first movie before we even attempt the other two.
My wifes mum a few years ago gave me a book about the second movie for Xmas. Shows how much attention she shows - she just assumes because I'm into Transformers I'm into anythig remotely fantasy/sci-fi
DP isn't for kids. It's funny in an offensive way but still funny. Different kind of superhero movie.
Superman vs Batman. Really??? It's like putting Q vs Pee Wee Herman ... & expecting a close result.
Haven't seen Batman v Superman yet but I have read some spoiler-free reviews and from the sounds of it, it's not good. Normally I don't buy into the reviews but when they're overwhelmingly bad, it's hard not to feel a little let down. I only go to the movies 2-3 times per year and I want to make sure I'm getting my monies worth.
Has anyone here seen it and if so, what are your thoughts?
All critics are expecting is action action action. So when a movie that is story driven comes along they say it's crap. Much like Man Of Steel, mostly story for first part with some action, then big climactic battle at the end. Wife and I enjoyed it. And we only pay $11 a ticket thanks to Optus ;)
I enjoyed it but I'm biased as hell (Love me DC) and I know I'm in the minority of those who liked it. Putting my bias aside (as much as I can) its nowhere near as bad as reviews suggest, at worst it's average. Not as action packed as expected but what is there is good (Batman v Thugs near the end being the highlight for me, it was like seeing the Arkham games in film) The shoehorned world building and parts of Lex are the only real issues I had.
Good:
Batfleck
All the Bats stuff basically (Batmobile, Alfred etc)
Half of Eisenberg's Lex
WW Theme
Not Good:
Hamfisted Worldbuilding/Cameos
other Half of Lex
the Reviews :p
I'd say 7/10
Batfleck movie needs to be made yesterday
I really enjoyed watching Superman vs Batman and I'm really interested in seeing where they take it from here. I liked the pace of the movie but I can understand why people may not like how it slows down at parts. It's hard not to talk about it without giving anything away.
I definitely recommend it. At least to make your own mind up.
I went in with very low expectations for the film, and found that I enjoyed it much more than I expected to.
That said, the more I think about it many things don't make a lot of sense or are unanswered questions. Even during the film there were multiple times where the logic just wasn't working for me. "Why would he do that instead of that?" kind of things.
It really felt more like a Batman film than a Superman film, and I thought it did (an older, war-weary) Batman quite well. Lot more Wonder Woman than I expected and she was done well too. Superman though got short changed. (They even did a Lois and Clark style moment where Superman flew off of screen with just wind and sound effect - which on TV budget makes sense but on a movie budget?)
You won't get your monies worth.
It's not awful, but it's not good either. Average-to-poor - 4/10 IMO. The plot's kind of disjointed, the writing's so-so, the characterisation is pretty limited IMO with basically no character development, the fight scenes (aside from the Batman VS thugs fight) are mostly more about the spectacle than the battle going on, and above all they just try and do too much for a single movie. It would have benefited from a few more individual character movies to set the scene/build the world and establish the characters first - the Marvel cinematic universe pulled it off rather better IMO.
Affleck does better than I would have thought (though I'm not a fan of him as an actor), but the script doesn't really give him anything to work with besides sullen or angry.
Wonder Woman was great though - totally stole the show IMO.
There's some really nice moments, and some good themes that could have been developed more (it's especially nice to see them taking into account the after-effects of hugely destructive battles between what are basically demi-gods on society at large), but they all kind of get lost in the overall package.
I'd say skip it, at least for a rare cinema trip. It'll be available more cheaply soon enough.
I agree with Grasshopper's analysis, though I gave it a 6/10.
Several plot points going on with none fully developed or realised. I feel Superman is a difficult character to create a credible movie for, as today's audience want a more "grounded" character and he's so OP.
Batfleck is great, I can't fault him. Lex I find more to dislike than like. Bringing in Doomsday was a joke. Minor niggle but the dream sequences were overdone and I felt Desert-garb Batman had so much potential but was wasted.
I had high hopes for BVS, but just couldn't get past the enormous amounts of stupid. Feels so much like it could have been epic, but was just a missed opportunity. Poor writing, poor story telling.
Hmmm... after reading everyone's thoughts about Batman v Superman, I think I'll play it safe and wait for the DVD release.
Just saw BVS.
Loved it, even in spite of negative reviews.
For a time I was thinking I'd just go for the dvd, but I'm glad I've seen I in the cinema. I've been waiting 25 odd gears to see a live action face off between the big blue boy scout and the one with no powers who still went out to face off against whatever danger presented!
I think I'll end up going just for Batfleck :D:D
This Affleck version of Batman got me reminiscing about the Michael Keaton version from the late 80's and early 90's. In other words the Batman that kills more baddies than he arrests, so to speak.;)
I'm in the same boat as 5FDP when it comes to BvS -- waiting to rent it when it comes out on DVD/BR. Might buy it as an ex-rental, but from what I'm hearing I'm not motivated enough to watch it in cinemas nor purchase it at full price on home DVD/BR.
Andrew Wildman has been a vocal supporter of this film though, and he recently shared this link: Zack Snyder Loves Superman and BvS Proves It. I obviously haven't read this article yet, and probably won't for a long time, but for those of you who've seen the film or don't care about spoilers, feel free to have a read at what could be an alternative view. :o
Pretty good read. BvS is one of those films I'll defend until I die, like Van Helsing and Sam Raimi's OZ among others. We get two fun marvel quip flicks a year, having a darker piece every few years shouldn't be a source of outrage. Variety is the spice of life, lets just hope they stick the landing better next time.
For those on the edge I'd suggest holding out the the extended cut (the original cut actually, before Warner cut it down to fit in more screenings) Just don't go in wanting a Marvel mood, think more like Watchmen or Ang Lee's underrated Hulk.
