That's not bad, they have set a benchmark at least that Hasbro will need to surpass.
I too wonder if they will be able to incorporate the cab robot without compromising the combined form, but I guess we will see in time.
Do want, that looks pretty amazing. I want him in my Generations collection though
BBTS have him listed for release this month at an astounding $184.99. I think I'll wait for MP Magnus.
This summed up my thoughts..
"Sure wish they'd have gone Classics scale so I would give them money.
Sticking with MP scale was boneheaded.
Easy pass." MrBlud of tfw2005
Problem with that comment is that it is short shifted and shows a complete lack of understanding of the manufacturing process. Going from the comments of people in the know on this project, it was well underway and significant capital had been invested prior to he announcement of the official MP. So they were, more than likely, committed. And changing scale isn't as simple as entitled fanbois like to believe. You basically have to start from scratch and do a complete redesign.
Yes a classics scale Magnus would have been better. Maybe they did think they could compete with an official MP. Maybe they are boneheads. But to call them so without having a clue as to their reasoning? Yeah. That's awesome
Not bad. Unfortunately KFC have regularly shown their QC is not up to scratch, I think people should stay clear.

This would rock if it were classics scaled. Still suspect on quality but it does look good design and sculpt wise.
Also an interesting un-magnus like bio with the selling of carcasses and stuff.
That looks truly amazing. But a KFC number plate looks so odd :D
:eek::eek::eek::eek:
Wow, they are making it really hard to pass on this
It's not terrible but those obvious hinges on the sides of his chest and the visible screw holes on his shoulders make it difficult for me to class this as Masterpiece.
I do not want to put words into MrBlud's mouth but my interpretation and support of his "boneheaded" remark follows.
It was heavily rumoured (even by Takara) for about 3-ish years that a Takara Ultra Magnus Masterpiece release is coming and Takara is rumoured to have many figures in advanced stages of design. The scuttling of an unofficial Soundwave by MP-13 seem to support this and "insiders" were left red-faced when their upcoming predictions were wrong. So to spend so much on making an unofficial Masterpiece of a popular character and give Takara fair warning by announcing it (especially after what MP-13 did) is a very big gamble.
Also, unlike the unofficial Soundwave this KFC release does not have the look of a Masterpiece. So apart from continuing this risky venture where Takara may announce or even release a figure before you, if an official figure comes out yours will automatically be the loser in many peoples eyes.
Seeing a potential market is not as important in business as seeing things objectively, cutting your loses and changing tack salvaging what you can. I would call KFC's pursuit of this stubborn and naive but I guess we will see how it sells - and technically the official one could still be a disaster.
Funny thing is though is that if you want it to be able to carry classics cars then it is correctly scaled. Using Drift as an example, his alt mode is the same size as the Sideswipe mould. But then, as we can see, it makes the bot mode huge.

Wasn't MP Soundwave a complete surprise? I don't remember any rumours leading up to that announcement because everyone was excited for Acousticwave. And besides, rumours are just that. I mean, there are rumours going around that we are going to get an MP Combiner all because Hasui said that he'd like to make Bruticus. That in no way translates to "It's in the pipeline" so to speak. There are also rumours of MP Galvatron, all because we got MP Rodimus. Rumours of V2 Megs since MP-10. I'm not saying that none of these are not happening, just that these so called "rumours" are nothing but fandom speculation reached from looking at past releases and trying to wrangle meaning out of what is said in the media/interviews. How long ago was it a fairly solid rumour that we'd never get an MP Bumblebee?
Anyway, obviously KFC thought that it was worth the risk given the odds. And they were wrong. But my original point was that calling em boneheads for not cancelling a project that they had already invested significant time and money into, means that he doesn't understand the process. I bet his attitude would be different if it was his money ;)
Citizen Stack. Clever.
Yes, MP Soundwave was a complete surprise to folks in the know which is the scary thing for 3rd party MPs. That surprise and the lengthy development a MP needs, all give weight to the idea that Soundwave was mostly ready for production and was purposely bumped up the release schedule to compete with Acousticwave at release and MP Soundwave totally sunk Acousticwave. Even though Acousticwave backed out very late before production began it probably saved them more money than if they had fought the official release.
So how many more official MPs sit at this advanced design stage? And why Quakewave and Hexitron (to a lesser extent) was not a victim of the same tactic? Maybe some 3rd party groups get better inside information than others?
These pics get me more amped for the mp release
+1.
Which is really unfortunately. The sculpt is very attractive and would have been a very acceptable Magnus given no alternatives. On those pics, I would've eagerly awaited reviews re: QC and jumped if enough initial positive sentiment emerged regarding QC.
As it stands, unless Takara really screw up, most people will wait for the MP. Takara's track record to date with the MP line has been amazing. Only MP09 is the weak chink in the record since MP08 and that's b/c the 1st run had QC issues.
As for if this could've been a suitable Classics? I don't think so. I think Classics now sits as a line to me that has to have a modern sensibility to it - in alt mode and robot mode. Anything that tries too hard to emulate G1 is not classics imo.
Looking at the posted pics (Thanks), I'm actually fairly impressed with what they've done here.
Seeing that the cab isn't involved in much transformation, it is a waste that they didn't invest a little more in adding details such as opening doors and seats.
That would've been awesome.
Waiting to see what the official product is like and the scale before I pull the trigger on one of them.
......... The KFC number plate is a little off putting tho :p

god this gets me so pumped for the TT Ultra Magnus
Thanks for sharing kaiden. I think it settles a lot of the QC concerns and appears to be quite a decent figure for that asking price. The design is pretty good, although it has been done before in the Titanium series.
If there was no TT MP Magnus in the pipes I would definitely look at forking out some cash for this. But alas, MP it is for me.
yeah its a shame isnt it. Be nice if they had done Galvatron or Cylonus instead
This has sold out on RK. Reviews from a few other people on various boards have been positive too. Some good pics of it with MP01 too.
I'm sticking with Takara though. They haven't failed me yet.
Anyone thinking of getting this guy?
I was not thinking about getting him at all till we see some TakTom prototype pics. Having said that the more pics I see of him the more open minded I am to the possibility if TakTom fumble the ball. He does look better than I expected, TakTom will need to do a decent job with their version and Ultra Magnus is not an easy character to pull of. So that will be interesting. Also I think it's likely that the official toy will likely cost more this time, as I don't see their UM being less than $200.
To summarize, based on the strength of the last MP releases I'm still not going for this guy, but I also think Taktom have their work cut out for them topping Citizen Stack.
from what i remember of interviews and stuff, the TT version will be an inner robot + trailer armor which is probably why its marked around $250.
certainly, as I've said the design for CS is pretty well done, and if it wasn't UM but a new character, I'd be more inclined but I want a proper UM damnit :p
I like this figure a lot but like most of you I'm waiting to see what takara will offer us. I think price will help me make my final decision.
