I'm glad I held off on a quakewave
Cool, hoping there's still a bit more work to be done on both though, but nice to see Shockwave finally get a decent official toy.
I wouldn't replace my Quakwave toy with him, based on what I've seen so far, but that doesn't rule out having both. Shockwave is one of my favourtie characters so the more the better, I still long for a decent CHUG interpretation.
My guess would be because he's a work in progress and they don't know when he will be coming out.
Yeah, seems like quite the coincidence that this prototype is revealed a day after the latest 3rd party Shockwave prototype from Cloud 9.
Do MPs Ratchet and Rodimus have numbers? Not that we've even seen Ratchet yet...
So will we get a pre Transformers Astro Magnum repaint?

I dunno, probably complete coincidence... what toy fair is it these were shown at? I had no idea anything was even on
Nearly fell of my chair at work earlier..great news
Shockwave probably is more complex than he looks, but if Hot Rod is in scale with the Autobot cars in alt mode, Shockwave looks a bit too short.
Hot Rod's proportions look better than the silhouette, but his chest looks weird. Maybe it's just not pegged in properly.
The all Japan model & hobby show
How cool would it be if this toy's faceplate were removable to reveal Snenator Shockwave's face? (similar to how MP Ultra Magnus, Wheeljack and Exhaust have hidden faces) :D

^Good point. :) Then Hasbro could also release it and there's nothing Harmony Gold can do about it. :D
That would seem... logical.
Give me my MP Galaxy Convoy dammit!
This is very cool though, I don't know what it is but his head seems a lot better then Quakewaves
This Shockwave looks a lot more toon accurate than the 3rd party one, interestingly that can be both a good and bad thing. He's got the g1 silhouette down pat, but that also makes him kinda retro and very simplistic on the surface detail. Much like Ironhide he has a giant groin section which is off putting but entirely accurate to the source material.
It would be cool, but I don't like the odds, as this design is slavish to the old G1 style to the point of looking retro.
Given they announced Beast Convoy a while back without a toy to show, it seems like TakTomy are more proactive about letting fans know what's coming up in the future, than they have been. I don't expect to see Shockwave to the later half of 2016 myself.
Wow. Wow. And WOW!!
Agreed! This is why I don't trust "expert" fans who think they know everything. Anything's possible. I remember when the experts (some on this very forum) said they would "never ever" reissue Fort Max, and sure enough....
Very.
It is doable, but Hasbro keeps doing "robotech" versions of Jetfire just to see if they can get away with it, and hope to set a precedent that earns them the legal ability to do toys that are similar to what Harmony Gold currently owns the rights to.
It's all about corporate ego.
Hasbro could have had cartoon/comic accurate Jetfire toys for ages, but keep modelling their creations on the original toy, which no one recognises from Transformers fiction, only from Robotech fiction.
The original Jetfire toy was indeed great (it is one of my favourite Gen1 toys), but I want a comic/cartoon Skyfire toy, and it's been 30 years and Hasbro would rather see how far they can infringe on the Robotech IP - like the SDCC GIJoe Jetfire toy that was supposed to be homaging the comic Jetfire and should have had the single-use, exclusive jet thruster-pack designed to look like Skyfires, but no, they wanted to see if they could get away with something that looks like the Robotech jet fighter thruster-pack... and as a result, fans are made to wait a little longer on the sidelines of Hasbro's little mindgames with Harmony Gold.
Yes... that was a fanboy rant about one version of one toy from a series 30 years ago... :p :o
This is a really pleasant surprise. So glad they've chosen to remake Shockwave. He's one of my favourite 'cons. Can't wait to see him coloured up. That will be the clincher for me.
I'm loving all these new MP announcements. It's nice to know what is coming to help plan the budget for the year ahead. he he
On a sidenote: I'm with Griffin, I'd LOVE to see a G1 toon Skyfire toy. That would be an instant buy for me. Fingers crossed that one day it becomes a reality too.
Since you can dictate the future, please post that they will MP the entire movie line. K, thanks. :)
I really would like to get this, even more when I see the blaster arm is translucent with electronics. There is zero reason it can't be done. Same as alt mode.
The bottom of the top layer of the chest is too wide on hotrod is what appears off.
I'm just disappointed with the size, would have liked him to be is scale with MP Megs, Soundwave & Screamer. He is going to look weird being half their height
In honesty, I am NOT prepared to buy Shockwave though I thought Galvatron was going to be out first.
My plan was to retire after Mirage, Hound, and Jazz. < Yes I know there will be more but that was it.
I am a bit unsure how far I want to collect mp line. The good thing is they arent overly costly, but I am out of space for my cabinet and I might become a MISB collector. OMG. lol
As for Shockwave size, we need to remember that is not tranforming into a hand size blaster either and it be smaller.
Cant wait for more pics.
While a cartoon accurate Skyfire would be great, the Macross fan in me thinks that Hasbro has a moral responsibility to do everything they can to piss Harmony Gold off. They can flex their corporate ego as much as they want in that space and you won't hear any complaints from me :p
Make a show accurate Skyfire toy and include a Holo Matter pilot who bears a striking likeness to Ichijou Hikaru (Rick Hunter) ;)
already on bbts for pre order . lol

I wanted to see if it is being called Laserwave (the original Gen1 name in Japan) or Shockwave (the westernised name they have more recently been using).
And from two of the photos I was able to piece together the name... as レーザーウェーブ (Laserwave)... continuing the trend of Japanese Masterpiece toys using their original Japanese names.
But the name tag also has four kanji characters as a prefix that are too blurry for me to work out (someone who is more skilled at Japanese might be able to narrow down the characters from the images Tober and Kurdt posted up, which are quoted below). They rarely use kanji in Transformers names... even as prefixes. Usually it will be the name on a themed multipack that uses kanji.
(this next paragraph is now in the MP Hotrod news topic, so post comments in there... it is just included here because the subject matter paired with the paragraph above)
And there is just enough of Hotrod's nameplate in that second photo below to work out that it is indeed being called ホットロディマス Hot Rodimus (the Japanese equivalent of Hotrod) and not Rodimus Convoy (the Japanese equivalent of Rodimus Prime - which was the name for MP-09, which means that this isn't "Hotrod Version 2" like some sites are calling it, because even Hasbro called their version of MP-09 Rodimus Prime, despite being Targetmaster Hotrod)
People seem to be too obsessed with taking photos of the toy for some reason instead of the nameplates. :p

I'm not sure I really understand that sentence. Who said anything about him turning into a hand blaster anyway? By that logic Shockwave should be bigger since he turned into a massive space gun in the cartoon.
I'd just like him to be in scale with the other 3 MP Decepticon leaders so they look good displayed together. Having an MP Shockwave half the height of MP Soundwave makes no sense, especially given the price
I very doubt masterpiece is about cartoon accurate 100%. There isn't anywhere in line to say Hasbro masterpiece or Takara have distinct toon accurate colours.
The latest starscream mp by hasbro is toy accuate G1.
I did argue before that the masterpiece line should have been split catgories so collectors know there is G1 toy and toon accurate version.
Might be to early to throw judgement as I have not seen Hot Rod or Shockwave standing next to mp-10 or soundwave at this stage.
Somebody thinks like you griff...

We don't know how tall these figures will be yet.. So I wouldn't work myself up too much about it just yet. Looking at this photo from daimchoc reports, crediting autobase aichi

Both hot rod and shockwave look to be taller than tracks, who is already taller than the other car bots in robot mode.
From what I understand, the car mode of hot rod would be similar to the size of the other cars, but that doesn't mean that the robot sizes were going to be the same.
My wife says the kanji in front of Laserwave's name is like "Defence military staff" so it's his role.
I expect Shockwave to be taller than the Autobot cars, because the original size-chart for Gen1 had Shockwave just at Optimus's shoulder height...
http://www.toycollectors.com.au/botcon/bc05/d38.jpg
I think Hotrod might be a little taller than the Autobot cars, but probably not more than a head taller. (being in front of them in the display case and next to a tall toy can have a bit of an optical illusion effect)
Thanks for that.
I was just coming back to post that someone on TFW had replied to my query, saying that it translates to Defence Commander... which might have been his Japanese toy function (the Hasbro toy had Military Operations Commander*).
(*sometimes it scares me how odd technical details from toys that were released about 30 years ago are still stick in my head... and yet I rarely got better than Cs at school :o )
If it based on that scale, then Shockwave is technically at correct size.
From pics, Shockwave looks taller than ironhide but just about under optimus.
He's not half their height though (even the carbots are more than half!) I'd say he's probably a head shorter than Soundwave which will put him very close to Starscream.
If you want something taller my Quakewave will be going up for sale once i can take some pics :)
i'll buy him and display in gun mode next to quakewave in bot mode (or vice versa depending which one looks better as a bot)
Oh my! I didn't see this coming. Though I've never considered the 3rd party figure before, it's good to know that I won't have to cave eventually :p
This is fantastic news. Although I'm still holding judgment until the final product is released whether this or Cloud 9 Quakeblast will be the superior mold. Time will tell. I hope MP wins out though.
Jumping the gun a bit there aren't you Trev? Unless you have some insider info as to how tall he is, we don't know the answer to that yet. All we have is a photo next to Hot Rod, but we don't know how tall he is either!
Just take a deep breath and back away from the keyboard :p
I am not really complaining though, it beats seeing Acid rain by Takara as a new decepticon. I think we really need to appreciate their effort for this one.
