Make a show accurate Skyfire toy and include a Holo Matter pilot who bears a striking likeness to Ichijou Hikaru (Rick Hunter)

I wanted to see if it is being called Laserwave (the original Gen1 name in Japan) or Shockwave (the westernised name they have more recently been using).

And from two of the photos I was able to piece together the name... as レーザーウェーブ (Laserwave)... continuing the trend of Japanese Masterpiece toys using their original Japanese names.
But the name tag also has four kanji characters as a prefix that are too blurry for me to work out (someone who is more skilled at Japanese might be able to narrow down the characters from the images Tober and Kurdt posted up, which are quoted below). They rarely use kanji in Transformers names... even as prefixes. Usually it will be the name on a themed multipack that uses kanji.

(this next paragraph is now in the MP Hotrod news topic, so post comments in there... it is just included here because the subject matter paired with the paragraph above)

And there is just enough of Hotrod's nameplate in that second photo below to work out that it is indeed being called ホットロディマス Hot Rodimus (the Japanese equivalent of Hotrod) and not Rodimus Convoy (the Japanese equivalent of Rodimus Prime - which was the name for MP-09, which means that this isn't "Hotrod Version 2" like some sites are calling it, because even Hasbro called their version of MP-09 Rodimus Prime, despite being Targetmaster Hotrod)

People seem to be too obsessed with taking photos of the toy for some reason instead of the nameplates.

I'm not sure I really understand that sentence. Who said anything about him turning into a hand blaster anyway? By that logic Shockwave should be bigger since he turned into a massive space gun in the cartoon.

I'd just like him to be in scale with the other 3 MP Decepticon leaders so they look good displayed together. Having an MP Shockwave half the height of MP Soundwave makes no sense, especially given the price

perhaps we now have the next scale line.
FYI the cannon in the cartoon is still a hand blaster in the actual toy

Yeah. I know. I own it. It's a big ass space cannon that was big enough for kids to hold like a gun. The MP line is all about being cartoon faithful - not original toy accurate. And the new scale line sucks if this is how they are going to apply it

I very doubt masterpiece is about cartoon accurate 100%. There isn't anywhere in line to say Hasbro masterpiece or Takara have distinct toon accurate colours.
The latest starscream mp by hasbro is toy accuate G1.

I did argue before that the masterpiece line should have been split catgories so collectors know there is G1 toy and toon accurate version.

Might be to early to throw judgement as I have not seen Hot Rod or Shockwave standing next to mp-10 or soundwave at this stage.

Taken from daimchoc reports Facebook page, who credits Dengeki Hobby Magazine for the photos

We don't know how tall these figures will be yet.. So I wouldn't work myself up too much about it just yet. Looking at this photo from daimchoc reports, crediting autobase aichi

Both hot rod and shockwave look to be taller than tracks, who is already taller than the other car bots in robot mode.

From what I understand, the car mode of hot rod would be similar to the size of the other cars, but that doesn't mean that the robot sizes were going to be the same.

My wife says the kanji in front of Laserwave's name is like "Defence military staff" so it's his role.
