I'll bring my boy around when I pick up the goodies this week. Pretty excited about Laserbeak especially not to mention I'll knock down 1400 with them too! :D

thanks
Left to right...
Tailspin, Stormcloud, Nightflight, Greasepit & Tailwind.
Greasepit comes from a fuel depot base/playset.
Oh and they're all Decepticons minus Tailspin.
Does anyone here have Tf Animated Season 1 yet? (Official not pirated)
Is there a release date for Australia as well?
Unlike the US, Australia is not getting full season boxsets. Instead, we're getting individual "volumes" with 3 - 4 episodes on each.
Out so far:
http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/800283
http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/801181
Coming:
http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/803324
http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/803338
I think it's worth buying the US season 1 boxset, as you don't have to wait. Note however the season 1 boxset only contains the episodes in these 3 volumes but not the first 3 episode "movie":

So it's worth picking up the movie locally from say Big W or JB Hi-Fi:

In my quest to collect the G1 Dinobots I have ended up with 2 Grimlocks. To the best of my (humble) knowledge they look genuine - both have the Takara Japan copyright stuff on the inside of the robot's right leg. However one Grimy has Hasbro 1980 1984 written in the same spot on the left leg, and the other Grimy does not.
Does this mean one is a fake?
The one with writing on both legs has no rub sticker (or any stickers for that matter!). The other has a rub sticker.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me, or check their G1 Grimlock?
Cheers
If you imported the Grimlock from America, it could be a G2 release (not sure if they had date stamps though, but just guessing).
The varients website has a page on the dinobots, but doesn't mention date stamps though - http://www.geocities.com/futuristgroup/vdinobot.html
Just been reading up on this webpage about the legit Chinese re-releases in the 90s (http://highendtfs.com/?q=node/15) and the Grimlock could be from there, as they partially blanked out date stamps, but could have removed entire date stamps as well.
That page is also a small revelation for me, as it explains all the original boxed Gen1 toys that appeared in toystores here around 1992-93, just prior to the gold boxed classics and G2 toys. We had Soundwave, Cyclonus, Starscream, Ramjet, plus probably some others, and I was never sure what they were from (I mistakenly guessed that they might be test runs to see what toys to release for Classic and G2 series - but their release in China probably prompted Hasbro UK and US to keep using some in the next couple years for Classic and G2).
Ah well, mystery (to me) solved. And begs the question, if Hasbro UK or US didn't end up doing Classic and G2 lines, could we have seen more of the original G1 Chinese reissues release here (see that link above for all the ones released in China between 1989-1995).
Was there ever a reason given as to why the majority of G2 characters in the comics were mostly still coloured like G1?
The fleetway comics get my thumbs up for being colour accurate:)
Because with a few exceptions most G1 characters looked crap in G2 colours. Do you really want to see Grimlock in blue?! (no offence to iceburn's avatar) :pQuote:

Why aren't Takara doing Animated figures.....or are they?
I dunno... why didn't Hasbro do Beast Wars Neo? :/
The fact is that sometimes Hasbro and Takara will cooperate to simultaneously develop a line for both markets whereas at other times they will develop TF toys & lines exclusively for their own market. Sometimes one will decide to later import toys and/or lines from the other's market over to their own.
Examples of lines cooperatively developed for both markets:
G1 (mostly)
G2
Armadaverse
Some examples of toys/lines developed exclusively for one market and never used by the other:
Small Pretenders (Hasbro)
Small Targetmasters (Hasbro)
Trainbots (Takara)
Pretender Beasts, Vehicles and Ultra Pretenders (Hasbro)
Beast Wars II/Neo (Takara)
Transformers Animorphs (Hasbro)
Some examples of toys/lines developed by one company and later used by the other:
Overlord (Takara -> Hasbro)
Beast Machines (Hasbro -> Takara)
Car Robot (Takara -> Hasbro)
Classics (Hasbro -> Takara)
Animated is obvious a TF line that has been developed by Hasbro... whether TakaraTOMY will want to adapt it for their market (which would also require dubbing the cartoon over*) remains to be seen. Quite a few Japanese fans have already been importing Animated TFs from overseas and posting toy reviews.
Just an assumption but...you'd definitely think TakTom would want to dub the cartoon as the product is already there and a proven hit and costs would be minimal for the dub.
It's by all means feasible for TakaraTOMY to import Animated over for the Japanese market but afaik they've made no announcement in regards to it so until then it's impossible to determine whether or not TakaraTOMY are considering Animated for their market or not.
does anyone know what i'm suppose to do with the gunclip on the g1 jetfire...
Surprisingly you use it to clip the gun onto Jetfire's forearm. Works in all modes.Quote:

I haven't picked him up yet, but from what I heard/read there has been some problems with the paint on his doors, apparently also in the Henkei release too.
Apparently the paint on his doors can be sticky to touch and might come off. Some think it is due to the way they have made the doors. I'm not sure how common it is, but some of Takara's Prowls have also had similar problems, although it has been as common as Hasbro.
I heard that it was only the first batch with iffy paint (my initial Prowl had dodgy paint but then I got's me a 2nd one from the US & that was fine.)
When you see a bunch of them in the stores, scan the packages for the one with the best paint job. When transforming it, be a little careful in trying not to scrape the front quarters/doors onto the rest of him. In general, try not to be too rough with him. :)
roller: I've played with both Universe and Henkei Prowl - trust me dude... get Henkei. :)
The door paint is improved and it has beau-ti-ful CHROME on the gun, spoiler and weapon! At first I was fairly ambivalent about the spoiler chrome on Prowl and Sunstreaker, but after playing with the toys it's actually pretty neat! I made them race each other in car mode and the chrome kept leaving this streak of light reflecting off it... looked sick! :D I don't have the camera nor the skills to photograph those toys at high speed to capture the streak... but it looks noice! :D
Be aware that the strobe light rack on the car roofs are different. Henkei has a Japanese-style strobe whereas I'm guessing Universe Prowl's strobe is more American. IMO the Henkei one looks better because Prowl is painted in the colours of a Japanese police car... but it's purely a matter of individual taste. Neither strobe is inherently better or worse than the other.
Here's some comparative pics to help you decide for yourself...

Henkei also comes with tech spec card & mini-comic book. :)
thanks all for the info
Gok, that Henkei Prowl looks hawt!!!! I was against Henkei Prowl iniitally cause i heard that the doors has Japanese writing on it. Comparison photos make decisions so much easier.
Q: The Henkei Thundercracker was produced in limited numbers?
If so, how much of a dent did this board make? EG: did we order 9 out of 10
Q: Are the Henkei Dirge and Thrust limited in numbers?
Yes and yes.
i am unsure whether the universe voyagers (wave 2 onwards) will be re-released again under the 25th anniversary logo, right now some inferno boxs are released without the 25th logo, i seen the offical images with the 25th logo. it made me think whether they will re-release previous waves so the entire universe 2.0 set will have the logo. can any1 give me more details on this
Hey guys/gals, anyone know if there are different versions of movie incinerator? Most pics that I've seen show that it is mostly grey and then the one that I got is mostly black. Have I gotten myself some fake one that fell off the back of the truck? :o
You've got the "Dark" Incinerator that should come with a small allspark cube and is by Takara. The other normal release by Hasbro is the Incinerator that wasn't sold locally here in Australia.
So both Incinerators are considered "valuable" here
hope that helps
ftr the Japanese version of Incinerator is just called "Incinerator," not "Dark Incinerator." (Reference)
Thanks for clarifying that!
Another question.
Normally, I just open all my TF's and play with them till the cows come home. But recently (i.e. whilst in Singapore and Japan) I've seen so many old TF's which I used to have and are now worth heaps and even some that I don't remember having until I actually saw it!
So I've been asking myself should I leave some of them unopened in the hopes that they would be worth a lot in however many years later? How do I know which ones to open and which ones not to? Is there some good "TF 101" website that can school me in the art of TF collecting?
BTW the TF that I saw and only remembered having after I saw it, was this spaceship which was blue and whitish I think (or purplish and whitish). It didn't transform into a robot, I think it was one of those ones that is like some kinda spaceship/base? I don't even remember when I got it. Anyone know which one I'm talking about (despite how vague I am)?
This one is aimed at Gok in your sig it reads as this: Transformers collection: 1198 (UCM), 1091 (SR) what does the SR mean?
It's unlikely that all of the Universe 2.0 toys will be rereleased in 25th Anniversary packaging. Some early wave toys do pop up again in later waves but we don't know yet, it's too early.
The recolours are being used to space out the line so that the same toys aren't on the shelf. The early ones like Sunstreaker and Prowl aren't likely to be repackaged as new toys like Smokescreen will be out instead (and hypothetically Red Alert??).
I don't know of a good site, but if you want to keep some MISB for investment purposes look for popular/important characters and rare toys: eg Movie Bumblebee, Primes/Megatrons or Botcon toys.
SR stands for "Substitution Rationale" which is a different method of counting Transformers. It's relatively similar to the UCM except for two criticial differences:Quote:

Now rule #2 is where the system becomes quite controversial which makes it ill-suited as a "Universal" method of counting. A "substitutable" variant is a variant that you would consider a fair straight substitute. For example, most people would consider Classics and Henkei Grimlock to be substitutable variants of each other, that is to say that most people would be satisfied to own one or the other. If you owned both, they would count as one Transformer, not two.
It's called a subtitutable variant because you could buy one as a substitute for not having the other. e.g.: If you don't have an original G1 Megatron you could buy a reissue and consider it as part of your G1 collection, i.e.: as far as you're concerned, you don't need a G1 Megatron anymore even though what you have is a reissue. An example of a non-substitutable variant would be say black G1 Megatron. People do not buy the limited black variant of G1 Megatron as an accepted substitute for the original G1 Megatron (or its reissues) or vice versa. I have reissue Megatron - it satiates my need for a G1 Megatron (which I also used to have but was stolen)... but it does not satiate my wanting for a black G1 Megatron. Therefore black Megatron is not a substitutable variant. I got the 2001 reissue of Megatron. I skipped the TFC and Encore reissues because they are too similar to the 2001 reissue. To me, they are substitutable variants. I'm sure most people with TFC or Encore Megatron don't go out seeking to get the other reissues.
Confused? Yeah. I ran the 2005 collection survey with the substitution rationale rule and it was baaaaaaaaaad. Everyone got confused because we all have different definitions of what we accept as substitutable or not. What is substitutable to me may not be so for you and vice versa. It was too subjective and people got mad. So that's why in 2006-7 I decided to create the Universal Counting Method which works well for its intended purpose of conducting surveys because unlike the Substitution Rationale rule the UCM is very explicit in defining what does and doesn't count.
I personally prefer the SR rule because I personally don't believe that multiples should count, nor should certain variants (e.g.: Classics and Henkei Skywarp count as 1 Transformer under SR but 2 under UCM). But I find that SR is not a good system when it comes to comparing my collection with other people because it's not explicit enough and everyone has a different definition of what counts as substitutable or not. So in terms of making any kind of comparison I prefer UCM.
In short, my SR count is the same as my UCM count minus all multiples and 'simple' variants (e.g.: all my original G1s and their reissues count as 1, not 2).
Paulbot, how do i know what would be considered rare?
Pulse, yes my inner child is telling me to open and play play play and make transformer noises but adult shazam is thinking $$$ :o
Best way to know is to check what's selling out. Eg If a store has 4 Prowls, 4 Sunstreakers but only 1 Tankor then Tankor is the rare/popular toy. However any current toys aren't really going to be worth a lot for years. Another tip would be to check what toys get good reviews because those are the ones that people will want 10-15 years later.
How about with the encore series or other TF's that are not sold in Australia? I spotted so many of them whilst in Japan and many of them seem to be the same as another one but then they'd be a completely different price like for example Galvatron, the only difference I could see was that one had a yellow all spark and the other had a green (I ended up getting the green one). Plus they are not really sold in retail stores in Australia so it be hard for me to determine which is selling out more quickly? Oh and Alternators was another one, two seemingly similar alternators at two different prices?
