With the second release of Soundwave, will they second release the cassettes? What would b e the difference between hasbro and takara versions anyway?
New pics from TFW :)
Hasbro Soundwave Pics
nice packaging .... :eek:MP02?.. what as mp01? optimus?.. then what were the seekers?.:p  also notice no energon cubes ...but i take the extra 4 cassettes over the cube any-day.... also notice that frenzy and rumble shoulder pin are silver ....love the yellow visor
Hopefully someone who is more familiar with Japanese Kanji can correct this, or agree with this...
The kanji characters on the box 傑作 appear to say kessaku... but I think a better JP version of "Masterpiece" might have been 名作 (meisaku), which is in my translation dictionary for "masterpiece".
I think someone at Hasbro just ran the word "Masterpiece" into google translate and picked the best result, or the fancier looking result.... but it appears that there are six possible Japanese options for the word, and I don't think the one they picked is the best one. Because the kanji characters they chose for "Masterpiece" also appears to translate into the English words "boner" and "blunder". The latter of which is not a translation option they'd want to risk on a "premium" item that will be read by Japanese fans... but then again, we laugh at their occasional "Engrish", so if this is a poor choice, it's probably only fitting.
while the other translation leads to other connotations, regardess of how accurately they reflect feelings towards this release... probably not something Hasbro want to be associated with either.
I really like the yellow eyes, and it's a nice touch that all the tapes seem to come with a case.
the mistransformation of the birds is humorous, though it might be the photographer trying to make them look different.
Wow that box is really nice, much better than the bubble type packages the last few MPs came in.
This fits with something I read that claimed the box is from the Hasbro Asia release. Japan is Takara Tomy's market, so it makes sense to use the Chinese translation rather than the Japanese. If it is an Asian release box, western releases may well omit the characters.
If it makes more sense in Chinese and this is going to be released by Hasbro (which includes the non-Japan parts of Asia), I guess that might be a reason.
It was just a little amusing to have it possibly saying on the top of the box "Masterpiece boner"...
Kan ji (漢 字, lit. Chinese chracters) is the part in Japanese that was directly imported from ancient China with very little change/no change in written form. Only going by the two characters 傑 作 it's hard to tell if Hasbro intended these to be traditional Chinese or Japanese since they are exactly the same written down. But I guess they should be Kanji i.e. Japanese and is a way of Hasbro to acknowledge the franchise' Japanese roots as part of the "Thrilling 30" campaign.
Now they're just teasing us. Release it already! :p
Damn, that box!:D
Hope it looks half as good as that. I like it.
Looks pretty cool... Couldn't tell if it'll have a flap that opens and reveals contents though?
Being a misb guy, I really hope so.
:)
Just when I was so tempted to relieve my impatience and buy the Takara version they announce this. Biggest dilemma ever.
I'm not entirely fussed about not getting all the cassettes, but I still would like them to complete the set. I do however probably prefer the red visor to match the cartoon. Also availability of the Hasbro one is certainly a factor. But then the price is so nice haha! Its also my birthday in 2 weeks and the TT one would arrive just at the right time! lol
tl;dr:
Either TT one (garenteed) now and possibly mp-15/16 later
or
Wait god knows how long for Hasbro release which I may miss due to availability anyway
I cannot decide!!! Help?
MAN!!!! Can't wait to get this guy! Totally have to get him, come on hasbro and get them out here!! :D
RobotKingdom have announced on their Facebook page that they are going to be carrying Hasbro MP Soundwave, possibly listing it this month. No indication on price as yet, and no word on Acid Storm. The dilemma - secure one from them, likely at a higher price than locally, or wait for the local release and pray you don't miss out?
How will the two versions compare in regards to build quality and qc?
Loving that box. Really cool looking. Nice to see Megs included as well as Frumbles' weapons and the butt-warmer.(though the latter isn't all to necessary:p)
Can't wait for this release. That box is a keeper though.:D
MP Optimus was pretty much identical with contents and construction materials... it just had some noticeable colour differences. Something that this one doesn't have other than the eyes... making it difficult to buy "a second one" to keep the Hasbro display complete. (all their previous ones have been significantly different to the JP versions, either by colours, neutered smokestacks, or an added targetmaster replacing Hot Rod's trailer)
That box is bonza!!
So did anyone get confirmation that they were removed from the tru website due to people ringing up? Just hope they weren't removed due to any other reason eg. We aren't getting them any more or something nightmarish like that haha!
This wait is killing me. Put us all out of our misery please Hasbro and TRU, and provide a definite release date for this figure in OZ!

Is that accurate? No guns for Frenzy in habsro version, only pile drivers?
The guns are in the pile drivers, they can be stored in there
The fascinating thing about this Hasbro set is that it contains over half of the first year's Decepticons in it... and when the JP version versions were released, it actually completed the entire first year of 10 Decepticon toys as Masterpiece. (we had Megatron and the three seekers first)
Of the 18 Autobots though in the first year, we only have 4 so far (Optimus, Sideswipe, Prowl, Bluestreak).
I can understand if there might be more Autobot MP toys, because despite the run of them lately, the designers might be trying to focus on first year characters first and then work their way through each year.
Quite an intriguing fact there griffin. We don't know who MP20 is yet, and they did say somewhere it will be a big announcement.
There has been rumours about indeed the designers wanting to focus more on the first year Auto/Decep only... oooh Id like to see Jazz and Wheeljack in Mp versions. Though wouldn't they need to get licensing for them though? Volks still is quite not agreeable still? Another interesting MP if this rumour proves true would be Hound with all his accessories - hope they make it storeable somewhere in him. Id like to get them to pose him duking it out with Frenzy for a promo pic heheh.
Canada vs Oz :(
From here:
Masterpiece Soundwave SKU043130 - $119.99
Masterpiece Acid Storm SKU043128 - $69.99
Generations Titan Metroplex SKU043106 - $99.99
Prime Plat. Ed Ultra Magnus SKU038196 - $69.99
Prime Ultimate Dragon SKU043112 - $59.99
Prime 16'' Figure SKU038183 - $29.99
The price difference makes me
Ultra Magnus with the target sale is probably Oz's only win pricewise :(
Does TRU Canada ship to Oz?
The lighter color on Hasbro's could also be lighting but given the trend, chances are that it is lighter like MP-10 Optimus.
If youre looking at Metroplex to give you an idea, Fort Max which has a lighter shipping weight, was IIRC $109 USD from BBTS. Amazon on the other hand may offer more competitve rates if/when he's available. Metroplex will be released locally at ~$200 so it may be worth waiting for say a Myer 15-20% off sale. Soundwave and Acid Storm have a $30 difference, so unless we can find free or discounted shipping it may not be so cheap afterall :)
And shipping from Canada is ridiculously expensive and unreliable. I would only ever buy from Canada again if the item I was after wasn't available anywhere else in the world.
