It's seeming that way. I think people may be hyping this up a bit too much.

Pretty sure you transform when moving at full speed. The fact you can do special attacks while at full speed/transformed doesn't mean transforming is solely for combos.
The clips clearly show some bits of Prime and Bumblebee transforming into vehicle mode and moving around the battlefield (as well as the mid combo transforms).
Running around, bashing some bad guys and moving on is pretty much what all the movie games were about. And at least the first one of those was enjoyable IMHO.
Its been confirmed a few times that you can transform at will. Its just that the trailer/gameplay video mostly show the transformation as part of a combo.
i think they are trying to establish that transformation is not necessarily always something "separate" in the sense that you press a button and wait and watch the animation but something that can happen instantly and on the fly to include in the combos and action.
i think i read somewhere this is the company that made bayonetta? i've got that on ps3 and never got around to finishing it but it does have a pretty hilarious wacky appeal and it is pretty fun.
*having watched some of that video, i can definitely see the bayonetta influence, it looks outrageous and fun actually now! :D
Bumblebee's vehicle mode doesn't look like a vw beetle... What's it based on? Loving those Constructicons though... :D
Was that a PC logo at the end of the video?
As long as the combat flows well and is good fun, it'll work.
No-one makes better flashy beat em ups. I think Platinum is part Clover. I have a feeling that Clover got split up somewhere along the lines. (?). I played a demo of bayonetta, and despite me loving myself a good beatem up (and I always have), Bayo never really grabbed me that much.
Madworld did, and Okami is my favourite playstation game of all time. So I will def buy this, and hope it isn't too Bayo-esque.
The Transforming during attack is an idea I like. Not many TF games merge the two so well. In WFC/FOC it was often just an alternative to running. For all it's flaws, I thought that Revenge of the Fallen intergrated Transformation into general gameplay really well (although, again, much like a run) as it allowed you to do transform attacks, like a charge punch, and long jump.
Ever since that game, I've thought to myself that transforming mid fight is a cool thing, and entirely likely how a real Transformer would fight.
Imagine Blitzwing, gets a couple of sword slashes in, then immediately transforms after a brief enemy stun move and blasts them with his tank cannon up close! If I was one and could transform in under a second or so, given the opportunity, I would try and use everything at my disposal which would include my vehicle mode!
Looking forward to this!
