So I was looking at the leaked shots of AOE Optimus' toy and I'm just not liking him. As someone that wants to love everything Transformers I hope the final CGI design changes my mind.

This figure appears to be an photo of the back of packaging, perhaps for some upcoming trade show or convention. (America Toyfair is still 2 months away)
It is different to the previous one shown off as being a "Generations" figure, and judging by the number of steps (15) is well above their Deluxe size (which will be promoted in 2014 as only being about 5 steps).
It was funny to see on TFW that the photo was taken down after a couple minutes, and there was 5 pages of people wishing that someone had saved a copy so that it could be reposted. :p
Interesting. Aside from the presumably "simplified" transformation and the back kibble, this one looks better than the Leader Generations figure.

I agree 100%. The ROTF toys were AMAZING, but too bloody hard for a kid to do. Which has led them to going too far the other way and producing their own over-sized legends figures (beating the Chinese KO producers to the punch I suppose!).Quote:

When TF1 Leader OP first came out, I was incredibly impressed. Easily the best Optimus Prime toy ever made since 1995's Laser Optimus Prime. Then ROTF Leader OP surpassed even that! And as mentioned before, retooling was done to ROTF-Buster OP to make a marginal improvement there. So with each successive Leader Class Optimus Prime toy we've seen steps forward (even if the step between ROTF and DOTM was small, I thought it was still quite significant - for me that relatively minor change made the transformation a lot more easier and fun for me :)), not standing still or going backwards. I hope that this standard will continue in AoE, but the photos don't exactly enthuse me. Maybe the actual product will prove me wrong once it's released. Go on Hasbro, please prove me wrong. :)
On this one image I like it as I think it will engage kids much better. I have had heaps of parents complain time in recent years. If these toys increase playability then all power to Hasbro.
However, the backpack is sucky

It seems though that most people in the comments on the other site are missing that the photo and what the guy's talking about, which would be the "gimmick" lines. That is the "Joust Sparkers", "Flp & Smash", "One Step MA", "Power Attac" stuff that probably "converts" but not in any sort of complex way.Quote:

That packaging is pretty good. I like it. The figure is not for me, but I reckon it'll do brilliantly with kids.
Personally I'll be stoked if this is their direction for the toyline for the next movie, mainly for 2 reasons:
1. I really don't need another movie Optimus Prime, Bumblebee or Megatron; and
2. My wallet still hasn't recovered from last year's blows...
(although I'd LOVE a decent movie Grimmy....)
When i wasn't collecting (between my childhood and the 2007 movie), i'd conversed with a few people over the years about TF's, and that gave me the general impression that the toys went to shit after G1.
Probably unwarranted complaints from people who didn't really know what was coming out, but it basically referred to no diecast and rubber wheels, which was a fair call except for the MP-1 and Binaltech's...
But when I first saw the pics of Movie 1 Leader Prime, and when i later played with it, boy did i realise how far things had come, and that that opinion was for the most part without merit. The toys now were far more involved, clever, poseable etc that made up for lack of diecast. And obviously since then, I've experienced heaps of incredible toys that they've designed.
Now though, looking at that in-box pic and seeing how cheap the whole thing looks, the scenario i'd imagined back then seems like it's become reality :( I really want to experience that wonder of seeing Movie 1 Leader Prime again!
How did you feel about Fast Action Battlers? Gravity Bots? RPM? That in box pic is one of those toys, not a Generations AOE Leader toy in box.
(which might not be better (based on loose and back of box pics) but still you wouldn't judge MOVIE or ROTF toys based on the gimmick lines that came out at the same time)
Yeah sorry my post doesn't make much sense, i was referring to the Leader (or whatever it turns out to be) from the previous page being underwhelming, but seeing the box with the cheaper toy really rubbed in that impression of what we've seen so far of the line, enough to make me comment.
Honestly while i wouldn't buy them myself, i never found the children's/simplistic toys of the previous lines to be bad or cheap looking like the AOE boxed toy... which looks more like a KO or oversized capsule toy than anything nice and inventive.
