I must say, I am a bit skeptical.
Damn it! I was hoping for a Bumblebee close to the WFC version. In fact, that's what I thought they'd be basing this on...
That's a nicer Movie Bumblebee than the one we get in the movies. I look forward to seeing more of the designs as they are revealed.
I knew it.
An interesting fusion between moofie and Animated Bumblebee.
:(Sigh! This doesn't get me excited for the new series, I think it's appropriate being pictured with My Little Pony by the looks:rolleyes:
Oh god, i'll never complain about ginormous chins again I promise!
Just like when that promo of Animated Prime was leaked, I'll reserve judgement until I see a clip at least. A static picture isn't an indicator of series quality.
I don't mind it personally.
Kind of has a transtech-ish feel to it.
What I dont get is this show. All the Toys seen in New York had nothing to do with this show. Show = Toys. So whats with all the Combiner stuff and just how does the new Game fit in.
Will wait and see I guess.
I don't mind it. :)
Seems to be the movie cast in BW/BM style animation. If done right (and the toys being screen accurate) this might not be bad at all!
I thought so too. I reckon they'll use some of the animation style and blend it with the movie.
The upshot of this image is that it shows that Hasbro might be doing some damage control. This series may mandate that the 3rd film will have to reflect some of the TV show's content.
e.g. Prime and BB getting subtle visual changes for the 3rd film
Yeah a mergiverse cartoon was inevitable given the movie is the face of TF's today for many kids. I prefer the look of this character to the cartoony look of animated, although I freely admit the look is only a fraction of the package.
Now can they take ideas from the breadth of the Transformers universe and make a decent story?
Damage Control? The movie made more money than God. People went to see it and possibly saw it again and probably told their friends to go see it. And then bought some toys. And then bought the DVD.
Of course Transfans who thought it sucked probably did the same thing too.
I don't think anybody at the studio or Hasbro (i.e: those who just got an incredible return on their investment) will be giving advice to Michael Bay on how to make them money.
As for the sneak peak? It's a pic of something yellow and indistinct - but movie-ish. I'll hold judgement until I see something more meaningful.
This reminds me of a truism that I was told when I worked in retail: "Any idiot can sell something once". The real trick is to keep them coming back with a good product.
People went to see the 2nd movie on the strength of the first. I'll wager more than a few came out feeling seriously dudded. Of course, by then it was too late, as by the time you realised it was awful, they already had your money.
Many will be far warier about seeing the 3rd instalment. About the only way that TF2 was any kind of triumph was financially. It's very wearing to see people continue to raise this as evidence that the film was good. It's kind of like claiming that McDonald's is the best food in the world since so many people eat it.
Off-topic, I know. Sorry. :o
Reserving final judgement until we get some animated pieces, and I get to see other robot designs.
But if Bumblebee is an indication of the aesthetics, then this series wont really appeal to me.
Hmm... I'm a Transfan who thought it sucked. Let's see...
1. "People went to see it". True, I went to see it with free tickets (thanks to Griffin and Hasbro. Cumulative amount of money I've spent on ROTF: $0)
3. "and possibly saw it again". Um... no. (CAOMISOROTF: $0)
4. "and probably told their friends to go see it." If by that, you mean "told their friends it wasn't worth watching." Then yes. Except, I guess you don't mean that. (CAOMISOROTF: $0)
5. "And then bought some toys". I bought heaps of Transformers. Unfortunately for Hasbro, none of them were ROTF toys - they were all vintage G1 or other secondary market toys. (CAOMISOROTF: $0)
6. "And then bought the DVD." I didn't do that either. (CAOMISOROTF: $0)
So it seems Hasbro has made no money from me out of Revenge Of The Fallen. And yet in the past, their franchises that were actually good (G1, G2, Beast Wars, RID, Animated etc.) resulted in Hasbro making ridiculous amounts of money out of me. (I don't actually know if there's a moral in there somewhere.)
Oh, and...
7. "The movie made more money than God." Net income for ROTF: about 650 million dollars. Revenue for just the Catholic Church in 2009 alone: about fifteen billion dollars.
Myth busted. :p
Hahahahahahahahahaha
Dude - you just made my day!! (esp with Point 7) :D That was gold!
Seriously, I can't believe I've spent more money on ROTF than you. I, unfortunately, paid for myself and my girlfriend to see it () and I've also bought ROTF Legends. At least most of my ROTF toy buying was done before I saw the film, but it promptly stopped straight away afterwards! Other than that, I'm in the same boat as you.
But, be wary about dissing ROTF in these parts... you might get your head bitten off!! ;)
So you are a Transfan then?
I have never thought the long-term fandom was that important either, but when you put it in those monetary terms it turns out that maybe we are. It means that even if the whole ROTF kit and kaboodle made them about a billion dollars, as a fraction of that, we're actually relatively important. Say I spent $5000 on secondary-market Transformers last year (which is a very conservative estimate.) That's about 1/200,000th of what that film made. And none of my Transformers money went directly to Hasbro or Paramount, because none of it was spent on ROTF stuff, because I didn't think ROTF or its toys were worth spending my Transformers budget on. So from that perspective, 1/200,000 is a fraction which - in the scheme of things - is a lot.
Funny how many threads end up this way after ROTF is mentioned, maybe we need a new section.
On the topic of the toon, I would think Hasbro would do market research and read the papers and realise that ROTF wasn't exactly a 4 star film. On the other hand characters like Movie Bumblebee are probably among their most recognizable today so yeah maybe we will get a nice crossbreed. Personally I like a bit of movie aesthetics for a change, my beef is with so called script writers and director of a certain film.
So yeah i'll give this toon a chance.
See... at least Sky Shadow, as someone who disliked ROTF, can walk away and say that he's spent nothing on it.
I like ROTF. I don't love it, but I don't dislike it either. So I'm happy to spend money to see it and buy toys, merchandise etc. But I think snazzbot made a point about people who thought it sucked but still went ahead and spent their money on it anyway.
Seriously - we all vote with our wallets. I remember when everyone was anticipating the release of Star Wars Ep II, I was talking with a guy at uni who was whinging about Ep I and utterly convinced that Ep II would surely suck. At the end of his anti Star Wars Prequel rantage, I said, "but you're still gonna pay to watch Episode 2 aren't you?" and he replied, "Yes," at which point I said, "Then George Lucas has your money." -- he conceded to that point. :)
If someone really hasn't enjoyed the live action movies up to this point, then _WHY_ give Michael Bay any more of your hard earned money? That's what I don't get. (o_O) It's as if some fans just can't wait to watch TF3 then they can't wait to hop online and b!tch about it. (-_-) If I think I'm not going to like a movie then I don't watch it! (dun dun DUNN!) For instance I really disliked Fantastic Four. So when Rise of the Silver Surfer came out I refused to go watch it... and thank the Celestial Teapot for that, cos I've since seen it on TV and yeah... I'm glad I didn't pay to see it.
I only have 4 ROTF 'in movie' figures. Two which I bought before I saw the movie and another two which I bought the same night I saw the movie out of impulse at a 24 hour kmart. I regret doing that.
The toys themselves are actually pretty good but I have to say that I very much regret buying them because of my dissatisfaction with the film and most of all the near none existent characters - many were at best animated props.
I plan to sell them soon as I have nothing invested in them and regret the purchase.
loophole, what I'm trying to say is that it's odd that some people will pay to see a movie when they're already _expecting_ to dislike it. If someone walks in with neutral expectations and is later disappointed, then sure, I can understand that they might've paid to watch it at least once. If you think you're not going to like a movie, then don't pay to see it. Wait until a friend buys it on DVD or if it comes out as a cheap weekly rental or broadcasts on television etc.
What I mean is, there are some people out there who just can't wait to hate TF3.
On the other hand (and I think it might be kind of what you're getting at, Goki, so... maybe... on the same hand?...), sometimes you have to spend money in order to find something you love. If I'd never shelled out money for them, I would never have known I could love Transformers comics, or Beast Wars toys, or Transformers: The Movie. And sometimes, unfortunately, you have to keep spending money in the hope that you'll still be there when it gets good again: if I'd given up on Transformers comics when All Hail Megatron reached a nadir, I would never have discovered Last Stand Of The Wreckers. Or if... say... everyone had given up on All Hail Megatron, IDW wouldn't have brought out LSOTWreckers at all.
Likewise, the 2007 film wasn't bad - it was kind of a sweet Transformers retelling of Herbie, followed by lots of fighting. I must have seen that Transformers film... like... twice. So I hoped that the sequel would be even better. And some things in it were good - I liked Alice and the revised definition of Seekers, for example. But most of it didn't make a whole lot of narrative sense and some of it was just plain silly. But (to bring this back on topic somewhat) that doesn't mean I won't be watching this new cartoon just because it looks like it might a little bit movieverse. On the contrary - if this series was set in the film universe, it actually stands a chance of fleshing out some of the (robot) characters and making me actually care about them. Which would be one of the best things it could do.
Just like Clone Wars... I like this idea!
Clone Wars makes some remarkable improvements on the prequel trilogy concepts making them different in feel. Ironically enough, it's easier to take the Clone Wars cartoon more seriously than the live action due to better voice performances, better execution of characters and good stories. It is also less comedic in tone than the live action movies as you don't get ambushed by wacky aliens in every second backdrop.
Anakin also doesn't look like a dweeb who can't act :)
Hopefully this new Animated series will be something like that.
He just looks like a cartoon dweeb with a decent(ish) voice actor?:p
Actually I haven't really seen enough of the Clone Wars series to get much of an impression of it, good or bad.
In my mind decent story and characters are far more important to a series than a movie and should always be given emphasis. A serialized show requires a draw card to get you to come back and keep watching it, and those things are the characters, (preferably) and (but also) or the story. A movie meanwhile can rely on things like effects, adrenaline and frenetic pace and still deliver something somewhat enjoyable as a one off event, but it wont fly in the long run. It doesn't really bother me that someone like Sideswipe didn't get much lines in ROTF, but if he showed up in this new toon for 12-20 odd episodes and did the same I would be annoyed (or at least reminded of G1 Thundercracker :D).
ROTF was a very crappy movie that I happen to like. :D
I LOVE many of the toys and have spent quite a bit buying them.
I would have loved Transformers Animated to continue beyond Season 3, but am also happy with how this new Discovery Channel Bumblebee is looking. As long as they keep the writing good, I think the movie inspired look is a good idea. I'll remain positive. :)
Not to mention the G1 Transformers Cartoon (at least for me), of which I have fond memories of, but cannot sustain watching more than one episode of at a time without being bored.
ROTF is like this for me, I got a buzz from it the first time, partly because it was a bit of a TF fan event. On a subsequent viewing I relaised how bad it was, however like with G1 I choose to cling to the good nostalgic memories.
As for the toys I enjoy them on thier own merits, Sure the backstory generated for them by the movie isn't very good, but I haven't paid much attention to any of the backstories for Hasbro's new lines since Beast Wars.
