Not sure why they wasted the effort of having a missile launcher on this toy, as it's pretty much useless in both modes. It points out the back of the plane mode, and points up at the sky in robot mode (after you position the entire back-pack section to stick way out the back).
And the legs are too big for the plane mode, leaving the entire back half with a disjointed appearance of two mismatching sections and gaps.
I'm not a fan of Animated Characters being copied into the Movie Universe, especially when their Animated toys don't really need any improving. As such, this is like Classics Cheetor or Dinobot, in that the 'new and improved' isn't better than the original.
-
Totally agree with Griff in regards to the missile - total waste of time and resources, they should have spent the money elsewhere.
This guy is just plain awesome!
Nice transformation with probably one of the best, if not the best usage of wings converting to arms/hands seen.
He has excellent articulation and can be posed in plenty of action poses, which do need to be adjusted and balanced properly due to him being quite top heavy.
The other cool gimmick is his spring loaded fists/hands that allow him to 'punch'.
Overall, 8.5/10 - one of the better Voyager sized toys

Comparison pic of Animated Lugnut and RtS Lugnut please?:) I'm curious as to how they compare size-wise, so it'd be interesting to see them side-by-side.

If you ask Sky Shadow nicely, I'm sure he will be more than happy to share his love of Lugnut with you and fulfil your request. :p

Behold the cult of Lugnut.

RTS LU-6 NU-7 Review - Part 2
-
I'm a Lugnut fan and, along with a minority of people, adore the "realistic" reimagining of these Animated figures. Lockdown was just a phenomenal reimagining and this Lugnut certainly did it for me too.
The robot mode screams Lugnut with his signature mono eye, angular jaw and elongated arms. It's all about the proportions. I prefer the turbines as shoulders rather than hands that the Animated version did. Conversion is roughly similar with the exception of the groovy conversion for the hands and arm. Which was the highlight for me. Articulation is ok with only the head having limited side to side movement and the jaw has to be shut if it faces anything other than straight. The gun at the back is a nice extra but utterly useless from a logical standpoint. Otherwise awesome presence in this mode and retains that terrifying presence that belies his blind devotion as a lackey.
Conversion is similar to the Animated version, retaining it's simplicity. The arm conversion were a lovely surprise that delighted me. Otherwise it's all pretty basic here. While basic, it's all you really need. Converting back to alt mode can get tricky as there's a few pegs that needs to be in place to avoid the nose from splitting apart.
Alt mode is convincing, if too much gaps here and there, especially where the legs fold into. The hands are cleverly used as motors and the gun is still as useless at the back. They should have just made a small spear that stores in there instead. Lugnut just doesn't feel the same without it.
Overall am pleased by this. Not as blown away as Lockdowns reimagining but still a winner in my books. That robot mode, just screams personality. Maybe even moreso than the Animated one.
-
Like NEST Lockdown, this is indeed a great, great toy. I fear that once I spot the RTS version, I won't be able to resist...Would be nice to be able to display both modes!
I bought the United version and this is my first taste of the uber shiny paint jobs Takara seem to love since the TFA series. The bling factor is very strong with bright purple metallics positively gleaming thanks to the silky gloss finish. This coupled with the equally shiny eye (complete with gold trim, no less) certainly helps Lugnut stand out amongst the crowd!
-
I've got this guy coming in the mail, even though he doesn't match my collecting criteria for 2011 so much...
The only thing that irks me is the use of 'Lolly Red' on the windows and random parts of the bot mode. But nothing that a few dabs of black paint won't fix.
-
May do something about the 'Hazard Markings' paintwork around the engines too. If it could be removed to reveal green underneath, or painted straight black, I think that could help to make the alt mode more menacing.
Nothing screams stealth like hazard markings.
-
I just opened up my United Lugnut, which I kinda accidentally got. I meant to get the Hasbro one after seeing pics online. But I'm glad I got the United version now.
I'm really liking the dark green in person, and the extra purple makes him feel more like Lugnut - even if it's not meant to be on his head.
The extra size and articulation makes him much better than Animated Lugnut in my opinion. And the extra bulk and the fact that he has nicely articulated fingers makes him much more imposing.
The alt mode has a very impressive wingspan, and I kinda dig how his head is actually inside his cockpit, so I can imagine him looking out when he's in flight.
I thought I wouldn't like how the fingers are quite visible on the wings, but I find they're not that much of an issue.
I think he's actually my favourite planeformer in classics. Maybe Jetfire is better, but only because he's built with much older technology, so I'm willing to forgive his many problems.
-
I need a question answered by someone with a United version.... is the nose cone soft squishy plastic? the green, not the red windows
-
just a question, how come this guy is in the united line? Is he a g1 character i don't know of? Wasn't he in animated?? I didn't watch animated much so wondering whats so good about this guy? please explain :)
-
Does all of United have to be from G1? After all, we had non-G1 characters in previous "Classicsverse" lines, e.g. Universe/Henkei Dinobot & Cheetor (Beast Wars), Universe/Henkei Hot Shot w/ Jolt (Armada), Universe Legends Megatron (G2), Reveal The Shield Optimus Prime (G2) etc.

Yes it does!! Cos G1 is the best TF series ever(My opinion)!! Haha and these updated versions are awesome!!! Yeah we do have releases from other series but majority is G1, which is why i asked. But you are correct it doesn't need to be G1. Now that I think about it, was a dumb question by me hahah

Yeah, it's all squishy. Which bothered me the first time I transformed him as I couldn't get it to line up right, but the second time worked fine.

You really need to watch Animated to understand the Glory of Lugnut. It defies description in mere words.:D
Lost and Found is a good start.

I really am in two minds about this guy...
Just not sure. I think more research is required.
Quick - To the Internet!
-
Ok, so I ended up picking this guy up for $34 at the recent Target clearance. It was a bit of an impulsive buy for me, since despite reading/watching many reviews (its what us selective collectors do) I still could not make up my mind whether to get or not.
I must say I am glad I did, cause he has really grown on me.
I like the alt mode a lot more than I thought I would. Sure the undercarriage is kinda weak (Classics Octane, anyone?) but as a whole it looks good and really works. Good looking revamp of a WW2 bomber. I think I would've like it to have some more gun turrents, especially the dorsal one like the animated versions have. It also reminds me of the mod'ed B-25 that makes any appearance in Sucker Punch (cause everyone knows that you should use B-25's to fight dragons), so there's an extra layer of appeal there. Personally I like the drab olive of the hasbro version better than the dark green & purple of the united version. I also noticed that he has 10 of those weapon-clip points in aircraft mode (3 under each wing and 2 on each side of the lower fuselage). I think I like the idea of this clip system, but unfortunately atm I have no clip-system accessories with which to experiment.
Transformation highlight has got be the wings changing into arms. I find that quite unique and almost worth the purchase price alone.
Bot mode is also pretty good, and I find myself really liking it. Articulation is a little hampered, but he's an impressive looking figure. But here is where the problems with Lugnut start for me.
My figure suffers from some pretty annoying QC issues, and I would be interested to know if anyone else's does too.
For starters his ankles are quite loose resulting in him toppling over in some poses.
The purple chest piece should peg into place does not even come close to pegging-in. So when posing, the whole chest-hip assembly is free to move.
The robot hunch which has the wing roots and turbines attached to it, should also clip into place (clip spots just above the end of the painted plane mouth) but again, doesn't. It just kinda sits there and consequently moves during play posing.
And the RtS sticker is on a strange angle.
:(:(
Its a shame, cause little things really detract from the glory of the figure as a whole.
Still, he seems to be on everyone's to-get-list, and he should be.
Overall a great figure. Especially at its current price.
-
I'm going against the overall trend on this thread and vote no.
I don't feel the Lugnut love here.
In robot mode I find the arms too restricted and the popout hands seem a pointless gimmick. The transformation doesn't feel all that original to me, it feels a bit like Cybertron Jetfire. Animated Lugnut's weapon was cool, the hidden missile launcher on this toy isn't.
I do admire that they are able to make the robot form a pretty sizeable jet but after transforming it once I'm in no hurry to transform it back to robot mode. This has gone straight to the sale pile.
Stick to the Animated one.
-
I don't even like Animated Lugnut... needless to say my interest in RtS Lugnut is quite minimal (oh well, if anyone is having trouble finding this toy, you can bet it wasn't me who bought it ;))
-
Doubt it will shock anyone when I say that I love this figure.
Transformation is fairly intuitive and fun without being simple or fiddly. The arm gimmick is nice but not necessary, and the alt mode is beautiful.
The animated version is better, as Paulbot said, the transformation is a mix of Cybertron Jetfire (especially the legs) and Animated Lugnut, and actually has a show character to represent, but for a toyline with no show characters this is a fantastic upgrade/update to a stylised toy.
Highly recommended for those who loved animated and just recommended for other tf fans.
-
I dnt like it as much as I thought I would. Not Purple enough for my liking. I think the colours are based on Atomic Lugnut over normal Luggy.
Mine too has dodgy shoulder bits. Feet are ok.
I like the play options with this guy, you can open his feet claws up on vehicle mode and he can swwop down and grab any unsuspecting Autobots. I definitely prefer the animated over this one, but this one is ok.
Buy if cheap (and you want it)

RTS Lugnut...
Based on the Transformers Animated cartoon character of the same name, I must say that I was not interested in this figure at all because of that fact, rather, this Transforming Robot Toy is just pure Divinity! :D
RTS Lugnut's Bio says it all:
Quote:
Lugnut isn't the most brilliant tactical mind Cybertron has ever seen. In a faction full of brilliant scientists, cunning schemers and devious warlords, Lugnut's processing capacity doesn't rank anywhere near the top. Rather, Lugnut possesses a quality that's exceedingly rare in Decepticons: loyalty. Unswerving, unthinking, blind loyalty to the glorious Megatron and the Decepticon leader's vision for Cybertron. Couple this with an armament that makes the charging behemoth an unstoppable force on the battlefield, and it isn't hard to see why Megatron finds no fault with Lugnut's brutish methodology. In particular, the explosive point-singularity generators in Lugnut's immense fists put fear into many an Autobot.
- sourced from: TFwiki.net
I love the idea of this character being Retconned into the G1 Universe but at any rate, his personality, abilities and unwavering devotion to Megatron and the Decepticon cause is really quite cool. :)
Lugnut's Colour scheme of Military Grey/Green and Purple with Red and/or Gold highlights is quite intriguing as these are coupled with White text as well as Yellow and Black hazard markings around his Twin Jet Turbine Intakes.
For me, a well designed and executed Aircraft Transforming Robot toy is absolutely to die for as I love Aircraft and Lugnut is a stunningly well imagined mixture of WWII Bombers with modern aircraft design aesthetics.:D
Proportionally Lugnut is almost perfect in this mode and is also of benefit to truly wise engineering as only his Bot mode fingers are discerningly visible in this mode and that is amazing!:eek::eek:
His wing span and breadth are great, with twin jet turbines that look burly without being over sized but this area is complimented by a clearly modern down-swept Tail Plane design. :D
Both the wings and rudder are completed with tampographed White identification markings which read: LU-6 NU-7 i.e. LU-G NU-T. :p:cool:
Finally his Alt mode's fuselage is what I am very pleased with because not only does it have a tampographed toothy grin on either side under the main cockpit, but it manages to house the Glory that is Lugnut's torso and legs, whilst remaining utterly plausible in proportion to his wings and tail plane and could honestly serve as a possible basis for a real-life Aircraft! ;)
His Transformation is quite involving but truly ingeniously designed, engineered and executed. :)
His legs fold up underneath him to form half of his fuselage and contain his landing gear with his torso forming the other half, his head lies behind the 2 halves that form his Forward Gunner's Cockpit and his arms are formed... By His Wings!?!:eek:
Lugnut's Bot mode is awesome because it manages to do 3 things:
1. Contain articulated legs comprising of a tilting ankle joint, hinged knee joint, ball joint mounted thighs and a hip swivel. :)
Along with a nearly full rotational head with working lower jaw and a rear mounted, over the shoulder missile launcher - But!...
His arms are the construction masterpiece point of this figure, as with a couple of folds and twists of certain sections you not only end up with a pair of rotating, hinged shoulders and hinged elbow articulation, you also receive a fist punching-action gimmick! (Dubbed the Punch of Kill Everything!):eek::eek:... :D:cool:
(This is all unheard of and is a major selling point amongst a number of collectors ;))
2. Have a size and stature that is quite hulking in silhouette and gives one the impression of quite a monstrously imposing character that shows little emotion with his singular forward mounted eye and skeletal lower jaw, along with a strong chin. :p
This is all drawn from his original Transformers Animated incarnation and has been translated into a more realistic looking form with great finesse and true expertise which could of only have come from a leading and experienced Japanese Toy engineer. ;)
3. Being Glorious in his Impervious, Gloriousness! :p:D
RTS Voyager Class Lugnut is a shining example of modern transforming robot toy design coupled with engaging and distinct character. :D:cool:
This is a toy that is very easily recommended to any collector of almost any age but especially to those who also love Aircraft, truly this figure in it's Alt mode is utterly exceptional but his Bot mode is equally tremendous. ;)
In my opinion, RTS Lugnut has very few peers in his line or from other lines over the past couple of years, he is a standout toy who should be owned by everyone, including those who can't stand Transformers Animated... Like me.:o

I like Lugnut. found one from Target finally hehehe. Good thing my figure doesnt suffer from the looseness of hips and shoulders that Klystron was saying. But then again I kinda sifted through 5 figures on the shelf before finally selecting this one.:p I really like the wing into arms transformation. Head movement is hampered though but that minor for me. I like the figure's sizing too and the altmode... very nice. the undercarriage works for him - but not on OcTankor sadly:p.

Despite not really wanting this toy, I couldn't resist picking him up for $22. :)
He's definitely better than Animated Lugnut IMO, which I always found to be a massive disappointment of a toy and poor excuse of a Voyager Class toy. The two halves of the front of the plane actually stays in place instead of having a super sensitive hair trigger like on my Animated Luggie. And the Atomic Lugnut colours actually works well on this mould and gives it a more realistic looking colour scheme compared to Animated Luggie's "tribute to BW Hardhead" colours. :p No joint looseness on mine.
It's a nice toy... don't know if I'd go out to say it's an exceptionally awesome toy. I'd initially voted on "Not interested," but now that I have the toy, I'd probably say "Only if cheap."
Question: What universe does this character belong to? Classicsverse or Movieverse? Or something else???

Classicsverse, he was seen in the battle in space pack in comic.
Although I wasn’t much of a fan of Animated (at first) when I first saw pictures of RTS Lugnut I knew I had to have it, but no matter how many stores in my area I went to I could never find it, but I eventually got him
His transformation is quite good and there is very little robot mode kibble in vehicle mode (robot fingers is about all)
His vehicle mode while evoking the Animated character is unique to this Lugnut and looks awesome. Though I was a little annoyed that the front cockpit section was made of soft plastic (and thus might warp)
His robot mode is GLORIOUS. Having a moveable head AND JAW, poseable arms MADE FROM HIS WINGS! Which both feature the P.O.K.E! His legs thanks to his large toes allow for him to remain standing in many poses. And best of all. HE'S NOT SHORTER THAN A DELUXE! (Sorry animated Luggy)
at first I was a little annoyed that he wasn’t the same colour scheme as the Animated Lugnut but I can accept that this colour scheme works better for a more realistic version
Lugnut is one of the best transformers I’ve bought in ages. I think any transformer fan should get him
Interestingly even though I went all over the place looking for it and eventually found 1 at a target about a 1 hour drive from where I live. the next week I found 6 Lugnuts at my local Toyworld. lol

Lugnut is a multiversal singularity.
