The engineering of both DOTM Skids and Sideswipe aren't as clever as ROTF - and I suspect this was done to accomodate the Mech Tech weapon gimmick, which in itself is nothing more than a simple spring-loaded weapon. Both toys have Mech Tech ports which unlike say Mini-Con ports do have spring-loaded panels which 'cover' them up when there's no weapon inserted (that way there's no unsightly holes on the toy). A fairly novel concept, but of course, this means more parts and $.

I don't mind it on Sideswipe - but I only paid $19 for him... so I'd recommend him if you can get him cheap. But with Skids it just didn't work out that well.

I bought this little dood but yet to receive such a sucker for sport compacts. My plan is to have ROTF Skids and Mudflap Dxs in bot mode and DOTM Skids and Mudflap in car mode adjacent I think thats going to look pretty grooving :P

Much better than the TF2 Skids toys... but still looks too ugly to enjoy its robot mode. It's almost like Bay was trying to make fun of people with birth defects.
And the alt mode is just boring.
Everything fits together well, and doesn't have much kibble getting in the way in robot mode either. I did have some alignment problems with the feet in car mode, making some of the panels at the back half snap together more than they should have.
Recommended if cheap, and if you don't already have a Skids toy.

I kinda feel sorry for Hasbro designing and producing all new Skids & Mudflap toys for TF3, on the understanding that they were in the movie, only to have them cut out at the last minute... and by then, it was too late for Hasbro, who probably would have done some other figures instead or just redeco the TF2 moulds.
