A Hasbro release could work as long as they don't make him pink or some other stupid Hasbro color.

It looks great but I won't be in a hurry to grab myself one even though I love Primes... one thing I don't get is how the trailer is always left as an empty shell without any paint/decals or cool gimmicks to spruce it up
Considering that this is the 2nd masterpiece Prime (that plus the price), I'd kinda expected the trailer to be vastly improved from the 1st larger MP Prime which IMO was a larger photocopied version of the G1 trailer... only with better wheels/suspension.

Very Revoltech looking to me and I'm not a big fan of them. To me the Masterpiece line is going away from what I thought it was meant to be, A collectors line. I can't say it's getting cheaper (not for the consumer anyway) but they are going cheaper materials with scaled down figures, If the price point dropped with the what I can only guess must be reduced material costs then I'd have an interest, until then this is a definite miss for me.

this updated optimus is just amazing compared to the first masterpiece, as long as i try not to think about the price the first one feels so blocky and clunky by comparison. i love the little details like the side mirrors and the fact there's even an engine inside!

the only thing that bugged me was how.. well, how dead his eyes looked, so i took a huge risk for such an expensive thing and took his head apart (WARNING, IT'S REALLYREALLYHARD TO PUT IT BACK TOGETHER because the little grooved pieces in his ears are seperate to the antenna and fall out all over everywhere) so i could paint some clear blue shimmer nailpolish over the eye piece. i didn't trust myself to not make a mess of his eyes if i didn't take him apart first, so at least it's neat!

it's hard to capture on my phone, but the effect is actually quite subtle and really makes his eyes come alive

    Massive fan of this.

I think a lot of what thsi version does well is in nuance. It is head and shoulders above MP1 (which I loved by the way) and one of the main reasons is the posability and stability of the figure. He holds his position without wobbling. The weapons storage is highly innovative. The handling of the lights and front panels is very clever. The articulation is phenomenal as well. I was very excited by this when I saw the pictures out of box showcasing the poseability and I was not wrong. Alt mode is great too although I'm disappointed my trailer which had a smudging mark across the top of it that's disappointing for out of the box. Roller too is well nuanced too.

My only gripe is the leg pieces don't stick together well. (Am I doing anything wrong?) Price tag? I'm not fussed. This Prime is head and shoulders better than the original and I am now very glad they re-did this b/c I see myself actually playing with this one more often and really not having to worry about it faling flat on its face b/c of weak ankle joints.. I know it looks similar but appearances can be deceiving. It's all about nuance and this Prime is easily more than meets the eyes.

Ah hell I'm sold. Got to buy one now

Where did you guys pick yours up? The cheapest I can find is over at http://www.amiami.jp/shop/?set=engli...e_display.html for 16,120 JPY (about $205AU)

any cheaper alternatives? Prefer Japanese based stores - since their shipping rates are kick ass

That's a good price, but Japan Post is privatised. HK Post is usually much cheaper.
Which brings us to where we are today...

    It's G1... it's meant to be blocky
