Guess the final word is, you're better off looking for yourself. Look at other people's collections, look at product catalogues, look at releases by year. Don't limit it to line, and decide what works for you, based on what you want.

It's hard to even casually recommend a list like this. It's always going to come down to someone's 'fanon' (for want of a better word) over-riding other's suggestions, in an attempt to make the list look and 'feel' credible.

Enjoy collecting, collect what you want, as who you want.
True, it is impossible to have a set of rules for this but there is no reason not to have a guideline for anyone interested.

I personally re-purpose a lot of stuff as Classics using personal preference and common sense - Everyone is doing this in one form or another since Hasbro's own official assignations are unclear at best leaving it open for broad interpretation.
