I doubt it would make the story any less coherent.

I noted that, but my point was - you don't hear directors or producers publicly admitting to any script changes that late in production, as it can affect confidence in the film by the consumers, distributors and theatres.
Sure, have some re-workings of the pace or visuals in a scene... but not an actual "script" change months after filming has finished. That suggests something significant was missed or changed during the filming process (even if it isn't true, that's how it reads, so should never have said "script changes", but instead say something less worrying, like "additional set-up visuals").
Script changes happen daily. Some things are only figured out in the editing. Have you heard of colour pages and what they refer to in terms of scripts?
Captain America 2 has just had reshoots. Thor 2 had reshoots.
I don't think we're talking World War Z level reshoots here. That was a big one, and it worked.
We would have heard more if it was more extensive, given just how rabid the fanbase is.
I guess they consider using the industry terms rather than dumbing it down for people not involved in said industry.
In addition, this film is too big to be sunk before release at this point. Opening weekend will be massive, and after that will depend on reviews/repeat theatrical viewers. It will do its massively inflated opening weekend, and probably drop off 40% for weekend 2.
One of the cross-promotion items for TF4 will be Oreo cookies (an American "icon" biscuit that started appearing at our grocery chains when our dollar approached parity - it was cheap enough to import to compete).
So expect to see some significant product placement in TF4... like most movies these days.
After Kraft was sold to Nabisco (in America), and it was cheaper to purchase & import American-made products in the last 10 years, they became a regular item on the store shelves. Before that, they had random sporadic shipments, as I would sometime see them and was amazed at them showing up here (after seeing them everywhere when I was in America... a bit like our TimTams or Shapes being everywhere here), but they were like over-priced luxury items due to the exchange rate, so weren't around much.
Back on topic though, apparently there are some details about what is being filmed this week in China, but it is on a Chinese website, so doesn't seem to load up for me... so some vague details are on the TFW site, claiming that it is to include an extra scene of (CGI) robot fighting.
Well I just got spoilt going to TFW.
TFW has a spoiler about Optimus as it's first headline. <spoiler
No big deal, but it would have been nice not to know there are two Optimus Prime's.
Well that's an interesting little design choice
Wonder how much of that Bay uses in the film
apparently another teaser trailer is coming
