Transformers wins Mensa's toy challenge

The organisation in America called Mensa (for gifted people), last year posted up an elimination contest for what is the considered the best/favourite toys. It started out with 64 toys split up into four Eras, that went 1-on-1 until only one was left (a bit like a tennis tournament, with each round knocking out half of the competitors).

Surprisingly, Transformers ended up winning... not just in its own era, but out of all four eras.
Then again, since only Mensa members could vote, it could be expected that an intellectually challenging toy like Transformers should end up winning.

Wow! I'm pleasantly surprised that they even beat Lego!

Surprised that the Rubik's Cube didn't take out the award. It is widely considered to be the world's best-selling toy and top-selling puzzle game.

Maybe it's because while an individual Transformer may not be as challenging as a Rubik's Cube ('cept MP Megatron ), Transformers offer a greater variety and diversity of challenges as a "puzzle toy." Also, the Rubik's Cube is just a puzzle toy, whereas a Transformer is a puzzle and an action figure and a toy vehicle (or whatever other alt mode). So it's like three toys in one (or more if they have multiple alt modes). And then you have the creative/imaginative aspect of the mythos surrounding the franchise; not only is there the background story of alien robots at war, but each robot is an individual character each with their own unique personality traits, abilities, weaknesses etc.
