When I first started collecting again about 13 years ago I made the mistake of buying Triggerhappy and Slugslinger without their TM partners and now would have to pay $35+ each if I wanted their partners last I checked.

So in short, these days unless part of a big junker lot never buy a G1 toy without their partners, you will either never find the partners or pay through the nose for them.
See even at that price, I'd still have a complete figure for cheaper than a complete straight up. Need their partners, but didn't pay much for the bodies.

I'll admit, I've been pretty lucky on some piecemeal figures, but it's all about patience. IE: I had actionmaster Sideswipe's gun and partner guns for ages, then ended up getting a figure for cheap, and partner for not so cheap, but Sideswipe is highly sought after.

Azrael also helped run a mate's piecemeal-Transformers stall for years, which no doubt helps.

eherm, eherm, what's that? accessories you say?

billygoat, as everyone said, and you've deduced, it is better to just save and get that complete figure. Im a piecemeal collector of G1 myself and before I used to have a lot of patience in getting this little accessories. I usually rummage thru boxes and tubs at Parramatta fair or find cheap ones on ebay. BUt lately the parts are going dry or getting pricier. So save yourself the trouble. Me I bought my Headmasters complete via ebay. It pays to keep a lookout for those ending in like early morning 2-3óclock AM. Well , that's what I did way before. So I got mine cheap since no one else counterbids heheheh. Oh and it pays to snipe if your PC is fast enough.
Wanted AM partner Vanguard, Myclones Dirge, G1 Victory Leo, e-hobby Dark scream ( the black version), e-hobby Magnificus
Parts- AM partner Basher-side guns, G1 Actionmaster Elite Windmill's blades[I][B]

I'd aim for complete also. I bought a cheap blaster once, without the gun, it was really hard to find a gun that I was willing to spend the money on.

even at botcon (2011), I only saw one loose blaster gun and it was $40

I didn't buy it, i've since bought a whole complete, better condition blaster for about $45.

based on prices I've seen, you'll be doing well to get a good condition complete headmaster for under $100. but it's still probably better than spending years looking for a few small bits.
