Default IDW goes animated in September with their comic covers

An unusual promotion. Several comics to be released in September will have a cartoon-styled cover, with MTMTE #21 (by Andy Suriano) being the Transformers comic to feature one (with Rodimus on the cover).

It says "variant" covers, so they should still have regular ones as well.

Looks very retro actually, as the set of comics look like ones from the 80s.

    Rodi's got a sword....

And if the art style reflected the sunbow cartoon it would be more interesting to me, as it is, I think I'll stick with the regular covers.

    Strange style to pick.

I wish they'd gone full-on Studio Ox, or the complete opposite and done a really simplistic AKOM style, with a few bits missing or miscoloured.

Apparently 'animated' means something different to what I was expecting.

Love the Samurai Jack style Rodimus.

I always had a liking for that style. It was good to see it in the Clone Wars cartoon they did before Ep.III came out.

I was thinking it would be just a standard Anime-ish cover.

I'm actually digging the Genndy Tartakovsky style there. If you squint it's almost Transformers: Animated.

Eewww... no thanks. Guido Guidi's much better at creating retro-80s style TF comic art.

I was actually hoping it was going to be an animated style cover. Even squinting his is giving me a Samurai Jack or clone wars feel. Not a bad design aesthetic, just disappointing after what I was expecting in my mind.

Silly and disconnected idea. Not interested.
