For a loose Encore Thundercracker (I'm assuming so since you didn't mention Skywarp, and you'd get both if it were mint sealed), it's... alright. I wouldn't say good or bad. Encore Thundercracker/Skywarp originally retailed for 6300JPY ($71); so I'd say each one is 'worth' about $35-40 individually, but as a loose toy, not so much. So while not a terrible price, I wouldn't say it's fantastic either -- this is just my personal opinion. Good/bad are subjective notions.
Things to consider:
+ Encore Starscream originally sold 3150JPY ($35)
+ Starscream has been reissued multiple times in recent years (which should reduce the aftermarket price): 3 times by Takara(TOMY) and once by Hasbro. And unlike Thundercracker/Skywarp, all the Starscream reissues were regular mass retail releases (making them more common - the 1st Skywarp/Thundercracker reissues were limited convention exclusives; the Hasbro and Encores were regular mass retail; the Hasbro reissues were all released in Australia as Toys R Us exclusives. They were expensive though ('bout $75 each IIRC))
As I said, good and bad are totally subjective - what I think is bad, someone else might consider good and vice versa. But there are some facts for you to take into consideration.
Also be aware of CURRENT market value of toys, which can be well above what they originally sold for... as some people don't like to pay more than their original retail price, no matter how old it is.
For current market values, spend a little time browsing ebay (for completed listings) to see how much they are worth these days.
Also do a check of some of the dealer sites listed in our dealer section, as some can still have Reissues in stock (but expect CURRENT market value prices though).
As long as you spend some time to "window shop" around, don't feel bad about how much you spend on something you REALLY want to buy, especially if it isn't available for much less than what you ended up paying.
In other words, ignore anyone who says you paid too much, if it is current market value and/or you were willing to pay that much.
That price sounds reasonable to me, taking shipping into account.
I'd be fairly pleased, actually.
Was it MISB? If so then thats not a bad price.
Even if it had been opened, but was 100% complete and came with the box, I'd think that was acceptable.
I wouldn't use ebay as an absolute market value guide. Auctions naturally inflate prices, listings can be completed on ebay fraudulently and there is the possibility that winning bidders (unlike us) may be living somewhere where TF's are not locally available (or vendors refuse to ship to) and are willing to fork out 'higher-than-normal' prices to obtain items due to their geographic disability.
Just keep in mind things are generally more expensive on ebay and it doesn't hurt to shop around![]()
That's not bad, shipping included. If you want a Starscream, there's the encore series (Takara-Tomy) which has reissued a whole lot of G1 figures already and yes there is a Starscream too. The Encore series (which you'll see stamped on the box) should sell for much cheaper than original G1. So if you do find a loose one for sale be sure to look at the close up figure shots as it might be just an Encore figure being sold for vintage G1 pricing - some online sellers on ebay can and are unscrupulous. Ask for close up shots if possible,or just grab the boxed Encore ones, much easier and cheaper for the same figure.![]()
Wanted AM partner Vanguard, Myclones Dirge, G1 Victory Leo, e-hobby Dark scream ( the black version), e-hobby Magnificus
Parts- AM partner Basher-side guns, G1 Actionmaster Elite Windmill's blades[I][B]
Knowing what postage & freight costs to the top end are like (and that the red centre's even worse), I'd say that's an excellent price. Enjoy!
Eagerly waiting for Masterpiece Meister
Sounds like you did well on that one. Good work.
Just a heads up since your new and looking at G1 stuff. A lot of the G1 "reissues" are actually knock-off's (not in Thundercracker's case, but many others have been KOed). I'd suggest looking at the KO section of OTCA to find out what has been KOed. It's easy to tell apart many G1 KO's once you know what to look for.
Thats about spot on for what you should pay for him complete and in excellent condition loose.
Everyone has different ideas on what a toy is worth, but really it's worth what you are willing to pay for it in that condition on that day![]()
