But seeing full-frontal nudity of a 15 year old girl is creepy (remember, according to Harmony Gold's dub, it is only 15 years after the first chapter ended, and Dana wasn't even a year old by the end of the Macross chapter)... so if you think about it, someone at Harmony Gold is a paedophile for scripting this nude scene to be by a 15 year old.
Considering the amount of construction and large population in the second chapter (being a different story universe in Japan), Harmony Gold should have made Dana older, or maybe even the grandchild of Max and Marlina... as 15 years was not long enough.

That's a Robotech thing, not Macross.

Topless nudity is far more common in Japan, especially manga. Another thing to consider is that the age of consent in Japan is 13 (legally, not practically). So really it's a cultural difference thing.

As for the nudity in a (presumably) kids cartoon... would you see it in a Disney cartoon?

Mickey Mouse wears pants but Donald Duck doesn't, Goofy is fully clothed but Pluto is naked*.

Again, cultural differences. Anime (animation) and manga (comics) aren't just for kids in Japan. If you went on the trains in Japan there should have been many adults reading manga. Or amybe they watch the anime adaption on their iPads now...

I like to say, you were NOT wrong about seeing boobies is creepy though. In Singapore back then there is no sort of pornography allowed in fact it still may well is considered illegal although due to the internet everyone had probably seen some porn ads. But back then for me as a kid I don't really see boobs as we didn't even had a "R" rating till I was about 18 years old. The F word was hardly ever heard till I seen shows like "Commando" etc....

I never watched Robotech, as I always thought it is a rip off of the original cartoons.

Another 6 episodes in, and another two nude shower scenes.
Gee, for a sci-fi alien cartoon, this girl spends a lot of time in the shower and nude... it's starting to be a bit of overkill by the original writers and animators. Sure, once or twice in the series for a bit of perverted fun, but five in the space of 12 episode is a strange pattern to have. (considering how bad the plot is with this chapter, it's probably the most interesting thing in the end )

I never enjoyed Southern Cross, whether it was the Japanese or Robotech the robots were uncool and I knew I totally avoided watching that series. Things change when Mospeda came back. Didn't actually got to watch Orguss as well.

I find the whole anime nudity thing off putting. It gives the whole thing a perverted feel and in 99.999% of instances is completely unnecessary.

Well....its their culture, nothing I would comment about it, I have heard a lot of Japanese girls do AV when they are young and retire when they are rich enough. I believe is their way of attracting adult viewers.

toys figures such as those often pop up, I mean look at Evangelion Asuka and Rei, they have been nude even though the anime didn't show "that" way.

I do agree, it is unnecessary and in a way low class, I watched Frontier and they seem to cover up the scenes now and leave it up to your imagination.
